Would you judge this in someone’s house?

I’m currently re-decorating parts of my house. I’ve come across a website that sells prints for the walls and I’ve found some I really like;

This house is full of love, laughter, and a little bit of what the fuck.

Pardon the mess, I decided not to give a shit today.

If you’re happy and you know it, it’s your meds!

As you can probably tell, our house is already a little bit eccentric with its decor… but would you judge someone for having prints like that on the wall with children living in the house or am I just overthinking it? 😅

I wouldn’t care about the swearing at all.

I personally find any kind of comedy sign quite twee and naff. But I also think people should have whatever the hell they like in their own homes, so I certainly wouldn’t be getting het up about it! My sister loves a comedy sign - not my thing at all, but each to their own.

MatriarchCaz · 28/02/2025 13:37

I have a sticker on my loo seat that says

If you dribble when you piddle be so sweet and wipe the seat

Have your house how you like it.

LBFseBrom · 28/02/2025 13:37

I dislike memes anywhere, they display a lack of original thought and seem rather immature. I've no objection to someone having an untidy, messy house and would not judge as long as everyone was happy and well fed.

chocmalt · 28/02/2025 13:37

Eccentric is fine, but I don't personally find 'swear art' or 'swear craft' (such as embroidery) amusing. Obviously, a fair number of other people do, judging by the amount of it available for purchase. I wouldn't say anything, but I'd have an internal eye-roll reaction.

I most definitely wouldn't be pleased if my child picked up a swear word after visiting yours and seeing it on the wall. So yes, I'd judge it for that reason.

BunnyLake · 28/02/2025 13:30

It’s all a bit ‘I’m mad me’ or ‘you don’t have to be mad to work here, but it helps’ shite that was popular year’s ago.

Yep and as said by others it’s trying to hard to be different and unique but she got all those prints on Etsy. I just had a look and there are 100’s of sellers with multi sales. Nothing unique about them.

I wouldn't judge you because I don't give a crap what other people put on their walls. These responses are harsh! 😳(from someone with a genuine interest in actual art)

Wouldn't you care if your kid went round for a play and came home with a new word? I'd at least raise an eyebrow personally.

FilthyforFirth · 28/02/2025 13:35

I swear like an absolute trooper but not around my kids and I wouldnt expect others to either. I would be unhappy if my kids saw signs with swear words at your house and they certainly wouldnt be back. Yes I would judge, aloud with kids, in my head about how naff without...

someonethatyoulovetoomuch · 28/02/2025 13:34

I have a poster in my hall that says live, laugh, leave by 9pm, which I’m sure most people on this thread would hate but lucky for me it’s my house not theirs! You just choose what you want for your own home, maybe you’re okay with swearing around your kids, other people won’t be. Might raise a few eyebrows from your children’s friends parents so only go for it if you’re confident and happy with your choice.

isthesolution · 28/02/2025 13:32

Not appropriate in a house that kids are in/visiting.

ItsAWonderfulLifeforMe · 28/02/2025 13:31

Zero swearing policy around kids here and probably in a lot of homes so this would be an absolute no. Crack on with whatever signs you want in your own home, but swearing on them, no..

LavenderBlue19 · 28/02/2025 13:30

I don't care about adults swearing at all and am fond of a good swear myself, but I wouldn't like that in a house with children (or to visit it with my child). My son would have been able to read that from 5 and we had to steer him away from graffiti at that age - having it in the house is just tacky and annoying to have to deal with.

I'm not a prude by a long way, don't have a spotless house, hate housework, but also don't want my young child swearing.

SnoozingFox · 28/02/2025 13:30

Would think you were one of those tiresome people who try to cultivate an "I'm mad, me" persona.

Shit/Fuck never appropriate for wall art.

lifeonmars100 · 28/02/2025 13:30

Not my taste but if you like them then get them. Personally I would not go for ones with swearing as there are kids in the house. The art in my house comprises of one massive Matisse framed print in my living room, plus a few smaller ones in the bathroom, some framed covers of 1950's pulp fiction covers in the kitchen, a framed copy of a William Blake poem that i love and a framed copy of a Henri Rousseau painting I love in my bedroom. Doubtless other people would think they are naff and tasteless but art and home decor are very individual things

RoWTok · 28/02/2025 13:26

It sounds like you trying to be eccentric and quirky, but you’re not.

My friend has poop art (her words) and prints in her bathrooms. In her main bathroom above the toilet one that says ‘take a seat, make yourself comfortable’ and another ‘ah flush it flush it real good’. Above the sink ‘wash ya hands ya filthy animal’. In her en-suite she has one with cats and it says ‘are you pooping’

Awful just awful

It’s all a bit ‘I’m mad me’ or ‘you don’t have to be mad to work here, but it helps’ shite that was popular year’s ago.

ThePearlBee · 28/02/2025 13:17

Come on. You don't really know what "most MNErs wouldn't dream of." Your post screams of needing to be special.

The swears wouldn't bother me OP, I think they just sound a bit rubbish, but if they make you chuckle why not?

I disagree.

There is definitely a general theme amongst many MNers.

You only have to read the threads involving decor or rightmove homes and if it’s not mostly grey, white or beige then you have multi posters saying it’s awful.

I think many MNers care what people think and like having the same things as everyone else - see all of the threads asking if it’s ok to wear X, Y, Z or what is in fashion at the moment.

I guess it depends on who you associate with but I assume from most threads that I tend not to move in the same circles as many MNers and therefore I personally wouldn’t have a thread asking for their opinions in this area as I don’t really care about what’s ‘in’ or what’s popular or not and neither do my friends.

I think OP is the same, it’s just the swear words that she’s not sure about which is fair enough that she’s asked other peoples opinions.

MrsAvocet · 28/02/2025 13:29

I'd think they were very tacky but I wouldn't say anything.

Applesonthelawn · 28/02/2025 13:29

I don't know about "judge" but I certainly think they are awful. I dislike any naff messaging as decor, but particularly these because they are just overly aggressive self-justification. Really horrible actually. It's almost like you have to give yourself an excuse every day. If you don't want to clean/tidy, then don't, but be comfortable enough with your choices not to have to defend yourself with naff decor.

TheBuddha · 28/02/2025 13:27

Yes, I wouldn't say anything though. I would aim to not give a shit about what anyone thinks and decorate your house how you wish.

The prints sound like something one of those 'I'm mad me' people (who are usually tediously dull) have - trying too hard to be 'fun'.

BunnyLake · 28/02/2025 13:27

I would judge because of the bad language rather than the (naff) sentiments.

It's giving trying-too-hard-to-be-hip.

WonderingAboutThus · 28/02/2025 13:24

I would judge, not because of the swear words but because of the negativity in the underlying views these sentences imply and represent. Edgy-sarcastic is not a nice mode to live your live in (except at ages 13-16 say) and I think it's not fair on the kids.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 28/02/2025 13:19

They are awful, whether or not you've got DC. Totally tacky.
