To not tell friend about weight loss jab

For the past 6 months I’ve been on a health ‘journey’ - had a lot of weight to lose and decided to do it with the help of a weight loss medication. It’s been transformative for me because I didn’t realise ‘food noise’ was a thing until it was taken away by the medication. I’m under medical supervision & paying for the jab privately. I’m going slow and steady but at the point where the loss is becoming noticeable to others.

one of our circle, someone I see weekly cos of kids is VERY judgy about people’s weight, about obese people etc and has vocally said that overweight people need to do something about it while simultaneously saying jabs are cheating etc. This has never been aimed at me, BTW. and usually someone else changes the subject.

She can be really lovely and obvs this is to do with her own food issues etc so while it’s the one thing I don’t like about her, I don’t let it get to me.

I think my health is my own business. I don’t want to tell people what I’m doing etc. DP says, they’ll notice and they’ll ask so just tell them you’re taking meds and it’s helped. Why be embarrassed?

YABU - tell your friends.

YANBU - keep it private. People
will judge.

I've lost over 5 stone in 10 months on Mounjaro, only one person know and she is on it too so we are each other's support.

If anyone asks I say that I've just cut the junk out which is true, I no longer eat rubbish food and stick to healthy meals in smaller portions than I used to have.
The jab is just willpower.

Your friend doesn't need to know, she will only judge you.

Entirely up to you.

I tell the world, because I'm fed up of feeling ashamed for being fat, when it turns out that one jab, and getting slim is easy, because now my body tells me when it's full. It's like cruise control for dieting.

I get the comments that it's no one else's business but my friend did this and actively lied saying she was fasting, shakes and doing bits and bobs. She was never hungry or moaning like other times after years of various fads and was advising others on her success! While also moaning about money being tight too. I was suspicious but trusted her so it hurt that she actively lied. I hate it coming up when people comment on her appearance as she still lies and they struggle to do it a 'normal' way (as do I).

If it comes up, don't lie. Say you're on the jabs and doing well, all is good and move the subject on. You'll get more interest than criticism I imagine.

I wouldn’t discuss other medications I’m on with friends so wouldn’t mention this either. Particularly if you know what the reception to it will be. Someone asked me the other day how I’d lost so much weight and my immediate reaction was to say I’m calorie counting. Which isn’t a lie, I am, just with the help of WLI. When I said that she responded with ‘Oh well done, at least you’ve done it the right way’, which made me internally eye roll.

I'm taking the view that if someone outright asks if I've used WLI I'll tell them. They are going to suspect you have and talk anyway. There is no shame in taking them, and frankly I don't care. Who have I cheated? Myself? No harm done to anyone else and I've probably saved myself no the NHS costs down the line.

The only person who knows I'm on mounjaro is my husband. Noone else needs to know! Why should they, none of their business!

(on a side note, I put on an old jumper today that hadn't fitted for years! And it looks great! My jeans are also all now baggy round the bum and thighs!! I love mounjaro!!!)

I don't think it's anyone's business how you decide to go about weight loss.

That being said you can clearly see that your friend has judgemental opinions on people's weight. The likelihood that if you tell her and she talks behind your back is huge. So the question shouldn't be 'should I tell her', more of a 'do I want her to talk about me'.

B1indEye · 27/02/2025 12:02

It's totally up to you, why would it be unreasonable to keep any aspect of your life and health private?
I'm surprised you need to ask tbh

Nobody else’s business OP.
