to think more negative effects will come out from Ozempic use?

Just read that the 30 year old singer Avery has been diagnosed with osteoporosis due to Ozempic use. Looks like this could be the start of many conditions coming out.

I know Ozempic is incredibly helpful for a lot of people but losing weight but then having osteoporosis does not seem worth it.

AIBU?

God everytime I read this thread it makes me reach for the chocolate.

Im going to start from page one again though to check for everyones spelling errors as I see that seems to be the priority arguments being currently made.

Very important

I am not disappointed by you or what you say 😂

Carry on with the drugs, I don't care either way. It is not that deep 😂

Anyone is free to start a thread, Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is daft or mad. Why not just be happy with your drugs and stay away from the thread?

If you are so happy with the drugs then why is there the need to keep saying how happy you are and showing so much defensiveness and making accusations? Maybe it is time for you to do some deeper inner work.

The people are keep banging on about being happy are usually the unhappy ones.

Have a great weekend!

What exactly do you want to be the outcome of this thread?

Would you just like everyone to agree with you that WLI are bad and all fatties just need to go on a diet and go to a gym?
The eat less move more has been the mantra for decades but obesity levels across the world are rising.

To be clear if weight loss was that easy we wouldn't have an obesity pandemic.

There are things we as a society can do. For example tax the fuck out of UPF, increase infrastructure for access to sport especially in lower socioeconomic areas where childhood obesity is highest. However this would be unpopular / expensive so unlikely to happen.

So we have an obesity pandemic and now there is actually a treatment available that is allowing people to regain control of their health. The problems often highlighted as issues with the drug including your original post are actually due to their misuse not their prescribed use. So by worrying about potential side and then laughing at those who disagree with you with some random argumebt that they are unhappy but claiming to be happy is incredibly condescending and goes back to the argument of what arebyou trying to achieve?

I work in a medical school and one of the things we teach med students is how to broach sentivie topics and the way you and others in this thread are laughing at those reply to you and just calling them defensive is what causes the defensiveness. You need to adress things in a middle ground and actually be willing to listen to others experiences.

Well, how is it going to work, oh informed one?

People who were obese and are no longer obese due to following a treatment plan including WLI will be entitled to remain on WLI once they reach a healthy BMI in order to maintain the healthy BMI

It's really not that difficult to understand if you think about it for more than a minute. Obesity is a chronic condition - once you have it, it's very hard to lose it. Even losing weight doesn't mean you have lost the tendency to obesity. Compounded with the fact that we live in an obesogenic society it's clear we need a treatment that helps maintain long term treatment for obesity. Time will tell how long people need to maintain for before their bodies no longer tend towards weight gain after a period of obesity, whether that's months, years or never, but there is absolutely no suggestion that anyone who has used WLI to reduce their BMI will no longer be entitled to take it once they reach a healthy BMI.

Probably because it’s an answer to your thread title.

And yes most people will say that some negative side effects will appear later.
Like we’ve learnt that taking antihistamine like cetirizine long term increases the risk of dementia,

And I fully agree with that thread title. Even though Im also using MJ blablabla.

Your OP though is disingenuous as explained at length in the thread.

@Twiglets1

And all the people saying they plan to stay on weight loss drugs for life on a maintenance dose…don’t they realise they won’t qualify for it anymore once their BMI is in the normal range or even the overweight range. Or do they intend to lie about their weight once they no longer qualify?

Tell me you don't understand obesity, what these drugs are for or prescribing guidelines without telling me etc

They stay though and keep insisting and insisting. Then accusing other people of being spiteful.

Yes, such fun, none of us are going to let you away with it and you will be challenged.

All the pharmaceuticals you mentioned are to treat symptoms of some variety. The weight loss jabs are an easy fix. People don't seem to mind and dismiss the side effects in the name of vanity.

I'm not sure why I'm even responding to this level of nonsense but obesity is a disease, whether you like that fact or not.

What point are you making, that 59 percent of people who read your thread think the lady got osteoporosis from the drug and not due to her eating disorder and more side effects will come out, as 15 years of trials and 20 years of this peptide being in use under various guises isn’t enough.

so what if others feel as you do. Back it up with clinical evidence. Post something sensible.

Who knew there were so many scientists that specialise in GLP-1 drugs on Mumsnet.

Or wait, is it just the general public with a vague 'feeling' based on nothing at all.

SilenceInside · 23/02/2025 12:11

Having a slightly popular opinion doesn't make it a valid one, it means there are lots of other people who are similarly misinformed.

RandomButtons · 23/02/2025 12:10

Glorybox2025 · 22/02/2025 11:24

From googling -

I want to make it clear that I do have an eating disorder and did NOT get Ozempic from a doctor. It's very easy to get now, and many people with eating disorders are using it

people who abuse it will likely have negative effects from that abuse. That is not surprising. It's a drug, not a magic pill.

Eating disorders cause osteoporosis.

The correct use of the words loose and lose.

How about 'loser'. Did I spell that correctly? I'm sure you are very familiar with the word.

Dunkou · 23/02/2025 11:57

Maybe side-effects will come to light in future, but probably not given it has already been in trials for years. I think massively reducing people's chances of cardiovascular disease and diabetes is worth it.

Mounjaro is a strange one, in that I don't think there has ever been a prescription drug treated quite so much like a fun consumer product (chummy forums, mango emoji, tweaking how you use it). Which gets a few backs up in people who don't use it.

In an ideal world I'd like to see more tailored dosing than the guidelines of 2.5mg, 5mg etc. There are a few people on too high a dose and not able to eat properly, nauseous etc for days on end and think that is normal for the drug. That, I would have thought, would be more likely to lead to long-term side-effects than taking a more specific tailored dose.

But while the NHS can't roll it out widely (and don't have GP time to spare on closely helping people), and most private prescribers see it as a one size fits all consumer product, people are possibly left to their own devices and forums a bit too much.

What do you mean?

Losing something is causing its loss.
Loosing something is causing it to become loose.

Well I feel it’s important to challenge people posting shite. Wanting me to not challenge you and stay away isn’t going to happen.

if I wasn’t happy on the drugs I’d not take them, try to think logically will you. No private pharmacy is knocking on my door, demanding money and holding me money and injecting me. Why would anyone take them and not be happy to do so.

it does seem to really piss you off people are so happy. Now I’m secretly unhappy and need deeper work. Yeah ok. I will do that when I shimmy into my size ten jeans.

😂
