to think more negative effects will come out from Ozempic use?

Just read that the 30 year old singer Avery has been diagnosed with osteoporosis due to Ozempic use. Looks like this could be the start of many conditions coming out.

I know Ozempic is incredibly helpful for a lot of people but losing weight but then having osteoporosis does not seem worth it.

Why would a doctor risk their registration & career to knowingly give someone a dodgy prescription? Not very likely, far more likely she lied to get it.

What and is still lying, 😂

You're extremely naive if you think dodgy doctors don't prescribe drugs for cash to celebrity clients 😆😆

BeGoldHedgehog · 23/02/2025 13:52

oh goody yes, lets hope all those obese sods keel over and die. Hopefully the depressed ones will suffer from heart attacks too from all their medications

That sounds awful. That would be my concern with taking these sorts of drugs, that I would end up with a worse problem than being a bit more overweight than is ideal. I hope your health recovers from this.

Doubtful, look at the stats I just posted, you’re hugely more at risk being fat.

Great journal articles thank you.

From the first one:

There was an increased risk of gastrointestinal disorders, hypotension, syncope, arthritic disorders, nephrolithiasis, interstitial nephritis and drug-induced pancreatitis associated with GLP-1RA use compared to usual care.

From the second one:

This study’s findings suggest an association between semaglutide and Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy

Do you know what are the increased risk of heart disease, arthritis, cancer etc… due to obesity?

Im not saying that there are no risk with weight loss jab. It’s very clear there are.
But what’s interesting is

  • what are the exact risk. Increased risk is nothing. Could increased by 0.1% or increased by 400%.
  • how do those risk compare to doing nothing?
Like cancer drugs. We know there are huge risks to taking cancer drugs. It doesn’t mean no one should take them. What you look at is the risk of taking them vs doing nothing.

Staying at the level of ‘it’s increasing risks!!!! No one should ever touch them’ is simplistic and doesn’t reflect the complexity in taking that decision. A decision that should be taken on a person to person basis too. Like any medication.

Fwiw I think everyone should be reading articles like that. That’s part of taking a informed decision.
Whats not good is reading two articles and NOT educating yourself on the other side of the cling but beating a frenzy about how dangerous these are.

And if part of your decision process is to say ‘we don’t know enough about the LT impact ’. Then fair enough. But don’t force everyone to come to the same conclusion than you and shoehorn anything you can find that support your conclusion into it?

Thank you for posting this. Scary stuff. There are likely to be more cases in time. I wouldn't be surprised.

Do you also find the cancer stats of obese people scary?

I took wegovy with a bmi of 32 and ended up in hospital. Unbeknown to me I had gallstones. No problems before taking the drug.
My doctor gave permission.
I now have to have surgery and have been off sick for months.
It is noted in the leaflet as a rare side effect and the pharma company have wanted data from me.

She didn’t say she got it from a mate who was a doctor @Tulipsandaffodils

Her mate helped her get it but she got it from a doctor.

In fact it’s obvious she did as only doctors can prescribe it but equally obviously, she lied about her current weight to get it. And then failed to follow instructions which is another worry about it being prescribed without a proper face to face GP consultation where the risks can be properly explained.

Edited

Lottie moss can’t have been clearer. She even says it wasn’t above board. She was not legitimately prescribed. I have no idea why you’re refusing to believe it. She even did a podcast.

Did you also think it was 'scary stuff' when a tiny number of people had vaccine damage from the Covid vaccine amongst the millions who had no issues? What about other drugs with incredibly rare complications? Are they 'scary stuff' too? You honestly seem to have no idea how rational people consider and balance risk.

SilenceInside · 23/02/2025 13:43

@nameey the "scary stuff" that you mention is a known risk that is clearly identified in the patient information and when you are prescribed the medication. It's not a new risk or an unknown one. In addition, pancreatitis is a risk of being obese. In fact a significant risk, both of getting it and the severity of it. So, losing weight by taking Mounjaro would overall decrease your risk of severe pancreatitis.

Aunty Google is your friend
Yes Lottie Moss got it from a friend of a friend and took a dose which was too high
She misused the drug which is why she ended up in hospital

That nurse didn’t die due to the drug. She was gravely unwell anyway. It was a contributing factor, as she was so unwell, but not the direct cause. Sadly she would have died anyway. My gp spoke to me about it, I think it was her gall bladder, I can’t fully recall.

SilenceInside · 23/02/2025 13:40

The point is that Ms Moss is not an example of someone who easily lied to an online pharmacy to get prescription medication. She knew she shouldn't be getting it and got hold of it illegally "below board" from a friend. It's not an example that makes the point that lots of celebrities are getting it by lying to online pharmacies.

I'm sure that does happen of course, and pharmacies should be doing enough to make that increasingly unlikely. But all of that is irrelevant to the issue of whether there will be new long term dangerous side effects for GLP-1s.

Simply because Ozempic hasn’t been widely used for weight loss purposes until fairly recently. Now there’s been an explosion of people using it for that reason.

I think as more people use a drug more side effects become known and that is the same for all drugs.

Ok so you’ve nothing to back it up. Fair enough, it’s just your view and I assume you do this for every drug and take no prescription meds unless they have been in use for what, 50 years?

Lottie moss got the drug from a friend of a friend. She also took a much higher dose than even if she was eligible would have made her very unwell. She was not prescribed it. Can you find no one who has taken the drug legitimately and suffered an issue? So it’s just some minor celebs who got on the black market?
