Mad neighbour..

At the back of my house, not attached to but in a little block, there are 11 garages, 6 on one side, and 5 on the other.

On the side of 6, i have the use (because i rent the pair) of 2 garages, next to each other. One of the garages has no garage opposite it. Between the 2 sets of garages, there is space for a car to be parked outside (perpendicular to the garage) on either side, and for a car to drive between.
I have fiat 500, ( tiny car) that I park right up to my garage. The garage opposite has had the garage door blocked up and the family access it as storage from their garden, the ones next to me are owned by my neighbour who uses them for storage and doesn't need access. Essentially, me parking there blocks no one.
Man along the road recently got a van from work, he has started parking outside his garage ( this blocks the garage to the side of him but is not impacting me, no issue)
I have parked my car, and am away for the half term.
This morning I get a call from my neighbour to tell me that van man is looking for me as I have blocked him in.
Only, I haven't.

His mate from work has left his van in front of the neighbours van, outside someone else's garage and gone somewhere on a training course. And taken the key to the van with him.
This means that as he has parked badly, neighbour now cant get his van out.
He wants my number from neighbour, or neighbour to pass on the message to me that I have to come home to move my car so he can get out.

As his mate is at work, he cant? / wont be able to move it till some later point.

Apparently I (according to the rant he gave my neighbour) 'stupid fuckin women drivers, she cant fucking park' have caused him to lose a days pay...

Ive had a look at the footage from my dash as I was a bit confused...My car was parked there Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday, neighbour comes and goes merrily. He comes home Thursday, his mate turns up later, and then the neighbour realises this morning that he is stuck...

How the hell does he think this is my issue????
Im not back till Sunday. Neighbour technically 'could' go in and get my spare key. AIBU to think, fuck it, this stupid woman driver will let you figure it out yourself?

I know you said the garage opposite you is access from the garden , but has VanMate blocked the garage next to that one ?

MikeRafone · 23/02/2025 17:54

Id be walking to work or getting the bus on Monday

Get neighbour to read this.

Not your circus , not your monkey

Noshowlomo · 23/02/2025 17:32

Any updates on this one OP? Hope he’s still stuck!

Fluffyholeysocks · 23/02/2025 17:01

'Oh you're in a pickle aren't you? I've heard your stupid woman driver friend can't park her vehicle - hope she moves her van soon'.

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 23/02/2025 16:58

Why the fuck is he blaming you? Is he hard of seeing and thinking? Prick, I'd be straight to his door when I got home asking him if he had something to say to me. Men like that make me so bloody angry 😡

He wants my number from neighbour, or neighbour to pass on the message to me that I have to come home to move my car so he can get out.

Simple response: your mate created the problem, tell him that he has to come to sort it out.

Your rather sensible neighbour can't just hand out your number, and if you are not in your car you are not in a position to return immediately.
The van twat needs to be contacting the other van twat.

Noodles1234 · 23/02/2025 16:54

I cannot stand it when (usually men - sorry) moan about women drivers. Yes both sexes don’t always drive well, but these knee jerk comments about the usual make my blood boil.

you have done nothing wrong, you enjoy your holiday and let van man get in contact with his van mate (yes easier to attack and have a pop at the female driver), and oh your neighbour, think about buying them a little gift, I hope he is enjoying it all too.

if he parks there you have every right too!

As you asked..
Proportions are off...but you get the gist

Is that 'mine' as in 'will explode if stepped on'? I hope so...

I feel more attention should have been given to how fantastic your nice neighbour is, they're epic 😂

This 100%. Is NDN a Mumsnet i wonder, well aware of CFery that this guy is wielding.

LittleGreenDragons · 22/02/2025 00:22

Neighbour said, 'I think that van is the issue, it's got a number on the side, why don't you give it a call' . Obviously playing totally ignorant of the fact thar van man's van is wrapped with the exact same signage...

Your neighbour seems to be enjoying himself and might be sad if you give in too early anyway 😂😂

Notsomarryfloppins · 21/02/2025 23:53

My neighbour is fully aware that I'm away, but told van man that he had no clue where I was. Van man has knocked at mine a few times. Neighbour then went round to the garages, saw van man who carried on moaning about me blocking him in. Neighbour said, 'I think that van is the issue, it's got a number on the side, why don't you give it a call' . Obviously playing totally ignorant of the fact thar van man's van is wrapped with the exact same signage...van man was apparently not taken with the idea..
My car isn't being moved.
Possibly not till i go out on Monday...

"Dear NDN,

I'm afraid this isn't my problem, it's the van mate's bad parking that's the issue. I recommend you get some builder buddies together and pick up and move the van in question.

Kind regards,
Notsomarryfloppins"

LittleGreenDragons · 21/02/2025 22:15

Out of curiosity who gave the mate permission to park on private land? It's not as though he's parked on the bit van man has rented 🤔

Elsvieta · 21/02/2025 19:30

God no - don't even think about moving it until you're using it again. Tell him what you've told us about when you parked and when the other van did, and then ignore. Or it'll happen again.

Kahless · 21/02/2025 19:17

Agree with everyone else. Not sure I would move it when I got back either.

You could offer him the number of a tow company so he can get his friends van moved.

Shakeyourbaublesandsmile · 21/02/2025 19:15

Message say you’ve checked the footage and can see it’s the other van that’s blocked him in and he needs to address it accordingly with them

Dont set a precedent

TheMerryWidow1 · 21/02/2025 19:11

Not your problem, his mate has caused this and doesn’t have any right to park there anyway.

Daleksatemyshed · 21/02/2025 18:45

Take no notice of this dickhead Op, he knows who the other van driver is so he needs to take it up with him, he doesn't want to inconvenience another man but he's happy to try and make it your fault. Keep the camera footage if you can, just in case

MonetWaterlilies · 21/02/2025 18:14

I would not be going out of my way to help someone who called me a stupid fucking woman driver.

TheFlis · 21/02/2025 18:07

Oh hell no, do not get your car moved. What kind of idiot parks their van in front of someone else’s garage like that? 100% not your issue to resolve.

jeaux90 · 21/02/2025 17:50

What an asshole! Be absolutely clear this is not on you and you will not be moving your car.
