Tell me my teens aren't the only ones lol

I am growing more and more gobsmacked with my teenagers common sense and I wanted to hear some other funny stories.

This week alone, son has toasted bread with butter already on it because he couldn't be bothered to wait and it smelt like the house was on fire.

Was feeling ill, so made him a Lemsip. He poured it (literally) straight into his mouth then screeched he didn't realise it was hot. He watched me make it from the kettle.

Today he is working with me over his college half term in the office for some extra cash. Blew his nose, then proceeded to try and open my free standing air conditioner fin part as he thought ' I had a fancy Japanese bin'

Please tell me I am not alone😂😂😂

DS17 asked me yesterday whether he should put the marmite on the top or bottom slice of bread 😃

I have a have an odd learning disability i dont see numbers and words like everyone else sorry for my spellings and my grammar.
Have a good day.

...and some of the parents you are so meanly criticising may also have good reasons for their lack of parenting skills?

tobee · 26/02/2025 14:46

The best way to learn anything is by personal experience. Not by being told what to do.

"Biblically the right environment"?

What are you talking about?

The Middle East in the year 0 presumably. Safely before the invention of the toaster.

MySaxIsOnFire · 26/02/2025 14:28

The Renaissance, Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution are 3 totally different things, spread over around half a millennium.

He also rejects those who reject Him

Petty sod, isn't he?

Russia, China, India, and most of Asia

Should we tell Him they're even less Christian than the West?

I suggest you try spending time with some other books. You might learn something.

Dadyu · 26/02/2025 14:25

Congratulations, caring mom, for the desire to go back to such old time basics, especially with a daughter who would one day become a mommy herself.

Dadyu · 26/02/2025 14:14

You asked "Biblically the right environment", 'What are you taking about'? You could answer your own question for me. Compare the world today with the one when Europeans were first blessed with the knowledge of the Industrial Revolution, what's the difference? Do you think there's now a change after Europeans who used to commit to the Word of God and then went on to reject God to embrace Renaissance and Enlightenment? Why has UK which used to virtually control the whole world cannot now adequately care for the little island it occupies? Why has military and economic power been shifted from the West to the East (Russia, China, India, and most of Asia)? Why is it that Israel cannot stand on its own but leans on the West for it's survival? These changes, whether you believe it or not, are due to a transformational power of God when He also rejects those who reject Him.

My step son, a genuinely intelligent and lovely boy, had to be talked through how to post a birthday card. From "write the address on the front" onwards. When instructed to buy a stamp, he was convinced that his dad was winding him up when he was told that any garage or kiosk in the supermarket would sell them.

jac67 · 26/02/2025 11:22

Year ago while living with us my teenage brother threw again all the frozen pizzas as he thought the herbs were mold.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 26/02/2025 10:33

Once a colleague of mine's daughter called to speak to her mum. When I said she wasn't about she asked me if I knew how to cook rice!

My mum won't let me forget the time I rang her from uni, to ask how to cook peas

Rookie error, asking your parents, but in the pre-internet days sometimes you had to bite the bullet. I was in full time work though, so I asked trusted friends at work who probably pissed themselves laughing behind my back.

One good reason why teenagers may be without good manners could be that they did not learn those good behaviors from childhood either because their parents were keen on making more money and the children missed out in daycare. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). A 2-parent home is biblically the right environment to raise children. A mother is the greatest caretaker of the home; therefore, she should not be absent from the home until the kids are grown up. Everyone in the world, whether a genius or anyone making contributions, one way or the other, passed through a woman. Anyhow, a husband minded man should be the one chosen by a woman who is going to have children oar a child.

winerosesandmusic · 26/02/2025 03:44

One note on finding butter in the crumb tray of the poor beleaguered common toaster. It's more likely the outcome after a slo-mo toast preparer has been near the thing. My husband still bloody does it. Takes too long pissing about and the toast goes too cold for the butter to melt. He likes his toast hot and hates lumps of unmelted butter 🤢🤮 so he shoves it back in to finish melting the butter. Of course, he blames the toaster. Funny how I can make "nicer toast than I can" in the same "piece of fucking shit bastard fucking toaster" without employing greasy stinky shenanigans.
It makes the toaster stink the house out with the smell of old burnt butter.

It also doesn't really work, as the butter ends up in the crumb tray and you're left with dry toast that tastes like it been dipped in something nasty.

He also still asks me "what number's this go on" and "how long to cook it for" while he's stood in front of me holding the bloody box.

Years of telling him to "read the instructions" haven't stopped him doing it.

It's being too bone idle to read the instructions combined with a weird streak of arrogance. I think that's part of it with teens also.

DH is fifty four.

yourmaw · 26/02/2025 03:01

Thread been funny. So op- not just your teens.
The incredible "horrified" all way to call bad parenting, moody Margaret brigade initially annoyed me. Especially, cos none of them just click emoji ,ALL had to individually reiterate, express despair and condescending judgement.
Both my kids are hopefully equipped to deal with that sorta shite.
Entire "common sense" is only really noted as being so..when one(or several) complete fail to apply it.
It must be shite being so utterly prissy you can process your child will absolutely never ever..not learn by active, somewhat embarrassing experience.
Also.
When I got first ever house(22,not teen, had baby of own) I called landlord, damn near hysterical demand urgent visit and immediate safe action cos I "discovered" when lay back in bath..below bathroom sink had some "random unattached very electric looking cable"
It's only "common sense " not 100% guaranteed ..aye,a did.

We used to joke at university about "Dear Mum, please send me the recipe for toast". I'm always very glad that I learnt a few basic, versatile recipes quite young - bechamel sauce, generic pasta sauce, the basics of soup-making. Oh, and proper chocolate mousse, because people will forgive you a lot in exchange for chocolate mousse.

Ha, dd2 spent her first term at uni living on toast! When I asked in shock if she'd eaten anything else she paused and then said " also raw toast!"
She cooks a lot better now, thankfully! I did teach her how, but t was too much effort until the joy of toast (and raw toast!) Wore off!

DS is only 14, so there's hope, but I saw a ring mark on the frying pan, and he told me he cooked a pizza in the frying pan. Also tends to block the toaster by putting sausage rolls and pain au chocolats in it. I want him to try and look after himself and want to encourage him, but it might take a while

Is Dadyu short for "Dad, you are a total arsehole"? Is that what YOUR teenagers say to you? If so, that's proof that teenagers aren't always wrong.

She said it was so funny.

@twoshedsjackson Oh my! I bet you made all the souffles in the world jealous that day! 😉

I have loved this thread (though not the superiority complex posters). I am guessing, that if my Mom was still with us, she'd have some good stories about her teenage years and a LOT more of mine and my siblings' faux pas! I blame old age for not remembering more of mine. 😇😳🤐

Kids, teens and us adults make dumb, silly, unthinking mistakes at times. As long as no one needs stitches, the police, the fire department or therapy, it all will come out in the wash. Well, if you use detergent and water. LOL!

OMG! You actually quoted the DM as your source for accurate factual information.

I didn’t really believe that gullible people like you existed until now.

Every day’s a school day! 😂😂

As a person who lives with three teens, I can tell you that despite the wild hilarity Hmm it's actually true. At least with my sons and their friends.
