I remember Anthea Turner punting flakes at her wedding. Carol Vorderman was always quick to front a financial product. Just seen Carole Malone on my timeline oiling on about weight loss jabs.

Any others spring to mind?

To be fair, the likes of Stacey Solomon are talented. She can sing and is famous through merit.

Yes I think she works bloody hard and her shows are very popular.

Ooh, how did I forget to mention one of the absolute worst: ANDREW WAKEFIELD.

ToWhitToWhoo · 20/02/2025 21:52

Michelle Mone and her ghastly husband.

Nigel 'hate the EU but loved its gravy train' Farage.

Mumlaplomb · 20/02/2025 21:52

Meghan Markle. Expensive tastes and appears quite ruthless in getting what she wants.

I became aware of it when that film "The Grifters" came out in the 90's and began to use it after seeing it but it was not in common use at the time. I knew a couple of people on the outer fringes of my social circle who had no job but always seemed to manage to survive reasonably well and we used to think of them as scammers or con merchants which is a very similar thing.

Fair enough, its not in common use in my circles we would use con artist or swindler, but I have been seeing it alot of SM so I thought it would be from the US.

OMG I'd forgotten about him! I was very sorry about the poor little baby, but he turned it into a scam.

hasn't he had at least one more kid? not that I follow what he is up to but I seem to remember something cropping up on my timeline. I too was very sorry about the baby but there was something "off" about the way he seemed to market his grief

Word from the top suggested it was widely known that they were having an affair at the time of Truss's leadership.

That would make at least two for her :-(

Is grifter a US term, thats migrated via social media, because its very similar to grafter and I always think it someone who works hard?

Captain Tom's daughter...

If you read the threads on here/ Reddit from the time, the aggressive defense of her is hilarious now! Like her or not, she was good at what she did!

Zelensky without a doubt

WTF????

lifeonmars100 · 20/02/2025 21:38

Sacked from every job he had due to his loose understanding of truth, so not that smart. I wonder how much longer he is going to last as the Mali's star columnist. He has a certain low cunning and knows how to use things and people to further the interests of the only thing that matters to him, which is of course himself. Didn't somebody once say "The only people who like Borisi are the ones who have yet to meet him"?

thinktwice36 · 20/02/2025 21:33

NavyViewer · 20/02/2025 21:31

Ah. The son? What does he do? I have to admit I'm not really aware of him.

Grifts! He sold picnic hampers for queens 90th for £150 and trousered a lot of dosh

That's a joke, right?! Poor taste

Sampler · 20/02/2025 21:23

Fergie is another one - Andrews wife/ex but still living together, she sells anything for anyone and has had some well dodgy dealings. A thorough grifter.

AppleCelebration · 20/02/2025 21:22

Ladbaby. All the way. Cannot believe how many freebie holidays they’ve grifted recently and let’s face it, all this is on the back of “charity” , and a song parody that was actually nicked from a young fella who went a little viral on social media.

Boris is playing a double bluff.
He's an idiot, pretending to be a smart guy, pretending to be an idiot.
Unfortunately peppering your speeches with a few latin or greek phrases is what used to pass for sophistication in this country and is therefore taken as evidence that he's actually a smart guy.
You only have to read the COVID enquiries evidence and in particular Patrick Vallance's description of what it was like to try to explain epidemiology and vaccination science to a thick toff who had last studied science aged 15 to know how well that equips someone to make critical decisions in the modern world.

He's like Delboy!! Chateau -neuf du paper !!!

Pussycat22 · 20/02/2025 21:11

Who this ?

Dickhead who’s grifted his way to numerous “charity” Christmas number ones singing about sausage rolls.

Pussycat22 · 20/02/2025 21:11

Siriusmuggle · 20/02/2025 20:24

Bloody lad baby. Him and his gurning wife. They do the down to earth man of the people shtick while the kids are in private school. A school they take them out of in term time to gurn their way through freebie cruises. I loathe them and I get the rage every time I’m behind their flash car with the personal plates.

Who this ?

MermaidMummy06 · 20/02/2025 21:06

Au, not UK, but solicitors firms that advertise that if you have an accident etc they'll do your insurance claim through our version of a pension (we can have life/tpd/ip via our pensions).

They make it sound like it's a difficult court process to claim. Its just forms & getting doc / incident reports to tick boxes. You only need legal help if you get a refusal & want to challenge.

A friend did it, claimed AUD200k. The solicitor took about 50k. All they did was tell friend what insurance company wanted & friend had to source it, fill out the forms & solicitor passed it on. DH was livid as he could have helped if they really needed it (in the industry). What a rort!!
