To be fucked off the neighbours use my drive constantly

My drive is big enough for about 3 cars if they squeeze on. We have a car which normally gets blocked in by the neighbours who use ours without asking.

It also means if we have visitors, they don't have anywhere to park and they have to find somewhere up the street although the roads are skinny and it's a bit of a nightmare (and I guess that's why they won't do it).

They usually get about 5 visitors a day and don't ask if they can use it first.

I wouldn't mind every now and then (which I have said before) but it's almost every day now and I think they're taking the piss.

I've tried speaking to them and they have said that the visitors don't stay for long so it doesn't matter?

Cheaper way to do it may be the poles that anchor into the driveway and retract when you unlock them. Like retractable bollards, cant think what theyre called sorry but i see lots of people using them. If they start blocking your driveway by parking across it on the road, speak to the police and local council. One of them will deal with blocked driveways. The antisocial behaviour team at your local authority has a huge amount of powers they can use if they start parking across your driveway once a psysical barrier is in place.. Best of luck.

gardenflowergirl · 18/02/2025 19:18

Just park your car at the end of your driveway so no car can fit behind yours.

I will diagram it when I have a pen and paper.

I'm really bad at explaining. My drive goes down the side of my house (where I normally park) and then across the front of my house (where they normally park). I could park my car in one of the spaces where they would block me in but there would still be enough room for one of them to park next to me so it wouldn't solve the problem completely. I doubt that makes much sense so give me a bit of time and I will upload.

Do they not have their own drive?

SaveMeFromMyBoobs · 18/02/2025 19:16

You can get folding bollards pretty cheap:

I'd get a couple of those, then you can drop them when you have visitors arriving. Or leave them down, and go out and lock them up when their visitors park on your drive so they actually have to come speak to you and explain why they parked there when explicitly told not to. Extra points if you park your car to the side, let them come up on your side and then go out and lock the bollards up so they can't get back out until you get home!

Big rock painted white is common round here. Or a couple of big planters

Ooh good idea, maybe a rock garden?

Goose1510 · 18/02/2025 19:07

Put bollards in easier and cheaper than a gate - plus if their car is in drive you can lift bollard and block them in and then take twenty mins to release them!!

Ritzybitzy · 18/02/2025 19:03

Every single time they do it knock and say it needs to be moved because you’re going out. Then watch them move it and go back into the house and shut the door.

they will get the message.

Edamcheese · 18/02/2025 18:59

You are definitely not rude by asking them politely not to use your drive. They are being rude by using your drive and their visitors and then saying they won’t be long and without asking you first. It’s a bloody liberty blocking you in it’s not your problem that their friends can’t find anywhere to park. . Even if you told them in the past that they can occasionally use it. I’ve had a similar problem in the past but that’s another storey but we solved it by putting up a ring camera . Just place some heavy pots so they can’t park the cars ,surely they wouldn’t have the cheek to move them.

Wsxx · 18/02/2025 18:59

Get a video door bell so that you can record their actions.

I think that's going to be our only option but just think it's rude to do this.

Not as rude as them parking on your drive, but I hear what you say.

Sophiapatra · 18/02/2025 18:48

They are definitely taking the p*ss.

So is it a shared drive or not?

If it's a shared drive (and is marked as such on the deeds) then OP doesn't have a leg to stand on.

If it's OP's drive she can put a gate up or some other obstacle.

I don't see what drug dealers have to do with the ownership of the drive ??

all the short stay visitors

Boundaries. Quite literally! Tell them you’d rather they didn’t use it because you keep finding yourself blocked in. if they ignore you put a physical gate in - that should make things clear enough for them.

not "rather" they didn't use it, they are NOT to use it

It does matter its your land.

Get a gate. Call a tow. Get a clamp.

One out of three ain’t bad I suppose.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 17/02/2025 16:15

Telling it's fine every now and then is clouding the issue. Go back and say that they and their visitors are no longer to use your drive at all.

This. If you give them an inch they will take a yard.

operafiend · 18/02/2025 18:10

Why have you allowed this for so long? They are rude for even using your drive in the first place! And do not allow football on your drive either.

BlunderMifflin · 18/02/2025 18:06

Danielle9891 · 18/02/2025 18:01

I'd be tempted to get some really big plant pots or a fence/gate. We have old whiskey barrels in our drive with loads of different flowers.

But then how do YOU get on your drive?? Or do you not have a car?

Sleepytiredyawn · 18/02/2025 18:01

I wouldn’t put it past their cheek to still park on your drive when you’re out. I would maybe consider one of those removable bollards too.

Judecb · 18/02/2025 17:47

Put in a gate and tell them it's for security. (Not that you need to explain anything you're doing on your own property!)

Wibblywobblyses · 18/02/2025 17:45

It’s rude to block you in and assume it’s okay. Assume = making an ASS of U and ME. Time to be direct and assert boundaries. ‘No more parking in our drive with immediate effect’. No reason required. If they ask… tell them exactly how inconvenienced you have been and instead of your visitors finding parking, your inconsiderate neighbours can now do this.

@Fencehedge Do you actually live your life never being able to detect jokes?
