Not farting in front of DH

Not really an AIBU but I love hearing what others think!

Have been with my DH for 18 years and have never intentionally farted in front of him. I mean I know it’s impossible to hold every fart in but he’s never actually heard one! If I need to I would go in another room or be discreet. My mum and sister are the same and a couple of friends. Also my DH is the same and won’t in front of me unless he does by mistake!

I know it’s natural and everyone does it but I’d never want to endure someone’s else’s fart nor make them endure mine! It hardly makes you attractive does it! That being said I wouldn’t fart in front of anyone… I mean maybe the dog!

what do you think?!

I let rip, but so does he. I'm puerile and find it hilarious.
On Valentine's morning I wanted coffee in bed so I farted loudly to wake him. up. When he only stirred, I farted again and that got him properly awake, and I got my coffee.

Delightful.

Endofyear · 16/02/2025 22:30

We all fart freely in our house! Mine are noisy but rarely wiffy, DHs are more stealthy but properly wiffy!

Klozza · 16/02/2025 22:28

I don’t really like farting in front of people, no idea why I’m embarrassed about it as my whole family growing up made a running jokes of eachothers farts and announce when they’ve done one. But my partners always farting, they stink but I find it quite funny tbh 😂

Mischance · 16/02/2025 22:28

If you can't freely fart in your own home with your life partner then something is amiss!!

I thought it was uptight af when people on here say they can’t take a shit anywhere but at home, now it turns out there’s another level of neurosis and some can’t even do it in THEIR OWN HOMES unless their husbands are out. Wild.

Edited

@CharlotteLightandDark - not sure anyone has said THEY CANT DO IT IN THEIR OWN HOMES unless their husband is out, they just don’t do it right under their nose.

Hazylazydays · 16/02/2025 22:23

Absolutely not 45 years married and neither of us do, ever, I think it’s revolting 🤮

I've no problem letting them rip in the presence of my husband. However, today at church a small but deadly one escaped and I was mortified. I tried to play if off as "well, who did that???" lol.

Reminds me of the story of the elderly lady who mentioned to her doctor that she "passes quite a lot of wind" but at least they were silent and didn't smell. Asked him if he thought she needed anything.

He prescribed her a nasal decongestant and two new batteries for her hearing aid.

Only mistakenly. Try not to and do say - excuse me.

Inastatus · 16/02/2025 22:19

All the posters claiming ‘We’d never see each other if we had to go to another room to fart’ WTF are you eating?

Ceebs85 · 16/02/2025 22:17

Never have intentionally, I didn't grow up in a home where we farted freely either.

Partner farts openly and gleefully in front of me and I find it repulsive and disrespectful.

Not generally upright 🙈

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 16/02/2025 22:14

It's funny. It will always be funny. If 1 of us had to go to another room to pop one out we wouldn't spend much time together. Life is too short to not laugh at farts. God help all the uptight non farting brigade if you ever have to help your spouse with personal care through accident/illness/old age.

SouthLondonMum22 · 16/02/2025 22:12

We just fart.

We have sex, he's watched me give birth etc we're really past the point of holding in farts.

FindingMeno · 16/02/2025 22:12

I would explode.
Home is where you can relax and that means not giving yourself bellyache trying to hold in farts.

MakeYourOwnMusicStartYourOwnDance · 16/02/2025 22:07

Christ, if I took myself off to another room every time I needed to fart I'd never see him! 😂

hereismydog · 16/02/2025 22:04

We fart freely in our house. We now have an 8 week old baby who suffers with terrible trapped wind so every fart he produces is cause for great celebration! Bicycle legs every night and whooping and cheering at every little fart.

DearDeadrie · 16/02/2025 22:03

Last night I had such a bad stomach ache that i thought it could of been something serious a few good farts and I was fine, sorry but in our home you are free to be human.

Hitchinkitchen · 16/02/2025 22:02

Letting rip in front of each other is as far as we take it. Our own bathroom moments are very much private. We do live in a very small flat though and I can smell him iykwim.

Bobbybobbins · 16/02/2025 22:02

We do but given you are both respecting each other in the same way, it's all good!

bifurCAT · 16/02/2025 22:01

I have to confess I've forced a Dutch oven when I'm feeling really evil.

XlemonX · 16/02/2025 22:00

Its a test of love to fart in front your significant other and know they still love you for better or worse!!

Resilience · 16/02/2025 21:59

This is all down to know your tribe.

Some couples are ok with it, some are nit. As long as they're not mismatched, it's not a problem just a difference.

Personally, I'm in the "nothing is sexier than smelling a stinky fart or hearing your loved one take a shit - NOT" camp. After so many years together, the odd one slips out and it's neither embarrassing nor funny; just not a big deal but not something we'd care to embrace. There is no shame in any bodily function but for us discretion keeps the sexual attraction alive.

BoundaryGirl3939 · 16/02/2025 21:55

🤣🤣🤣

Reminds me of a pseudo-posh elderly lady I used to live nextdoor to, who was visiting me one afternoon...she farted and without blinking an eyelid said "pardon me, I knew there was something I meant to do earlier". 😫

To this day I don't know if she meant break wind or visit the bathroom.

RanchRat · 16/02/2025 21:58

Wtf is wrong with people. Just fart, its what we do.
