Not farting in front of DH

Not really an AIBU but I love hearing what others think!

Have been with my DH for 18 years and have never intentionally farted in front of him. I mean I know it’s impossible to hold every fart in but he’s never actually heard one! If I need to I would go in another room or be discreet. My mum and sister are the same and a couple of friends. Also my DH is the same and won’t in front of me unless he does by mistake!

I know it’s natural and everyone does it but I’d never want to endure someone’s else’s fart nor make them endure mine! It hardly makes you attractive does it! That being said I wouldn’t fart in front of anyone… I mean maybe the dog!

what do you think?!

Surely everyone farts in their sleep?

We have both been known to fart so loudly we've woken each other up.

godddwhathaveyoudone · 16/02/2025 23:00

Also giving birth- there’s like a 90% chance you’ll do an actual poo in front of your DH whilst pushing. Daunting at the best of times but surely a million times worse if you’re mortified at the thought of him hearing you fart.

This 😂😂

I mean, all the humans in my house have all been inside me at some point.. I created most of them so why get worked up over a fart?!

Oh, the picture you paint. 😂

godddwhathaveyoudone · 16/02/2025 22:57

I kind of understand withholding them sometimes- eg if you’re all cosy in bed it’s not very fair on the other person if it can be helped!

I don’t understand people saying they feel embarrassed at the thought of their DH hearing or knowing they fart 😵‍💫 Maybe in the very, very early stages of a relationship but when you’re living together in a years long relationship??

Enjoying the phrases people use whilst trying to avoid the f word. These in particular:
occasional slips
uncaring blasts
😄

I do try to do my Donalds away from others but there are always times when they just happen, with no prior warning. DH doesn't give a monkeys and performs a full rectal rhapsody whenever he feels the need.

Edit: I really did not mean to quote there, my apologies.

I wonder how many of the people on here ,who are so refined they wouldn't fart , will allow their partner to put their penis up their arsehole.

This 😂😂

Honest question - if farting is meant time do good, why f do I none of the blokes I’ve had a crush on seem to do it?

let’s face it - our crushes never do it

Mansionscoldandgrey · 16/02/2025 22:56

The day I stop finding farts funny will be the day that life is too joyless to be worth living 😅

I’m just baffled as to how people can be in a committed relationship for many years and not fart in front of each other. It’s a natural bodily function, and frankly as an IBS sufferer I would be in absolute agony holding it in, the alternative would be to never share a room with DH. I wouldn’t fart in front of guests, and there have been some very difficult and painful times with trips to the bathroom, I certainly wouldn’t want to endure that on a daily basis.
DH and I are not vulgar with it, we simply fart, say excuse me, and neither of us gives a damn.

I'll just leave this here...

That’s crazy to not have farted in front of him. You exchange bodily fluids but you won’t fart? Wow

beardednotlady · 16/02/2025 22:53

Nope. We don't do it in this house!

Personally I find it gross and very disrespectful. It would give be the ick.

Netcam · 16/02/2025 22:38

Agree, it's not funny. You need to put these boundaries in place at the start of a relationship. Well done for doing so and to him for respecting them.

I would love to be a fly on the wall of a prudy couple having a serious 'fart boundaries' conversation at the start of their relationship.

😆

@CharlotteLightandDark - not sure anyone has said THEY CANT DO IT IN THEIR OWN HOMES unless their husband is out, they just don’t do it right under their nose.

No, 2 people said this.

I’m not gonna scroll back through 10 pages so take me word for it

sweetpickle2 · 16/02/2025 22:47

Posters saying “it’s a normal bodily function!” so is taking a dump, but I wouldn’t do that in the middle of the living room either.

I don’t pretend I don’t fart, but I also don’t see the problem with a bit of consideration (if possible). Same as I wouldn’t just fart in the middle of a restaurant or wherever.

God this is close to my heart today - I ate industrial quantities of celeriac and pak Choi last night and I’ve been dropping some absolute eye-waterers. I don’t intentionally fart in front of DH, but I do wake us both up by farting quite often. (I tut at him, roll over and go back to sleep!)

OTOH DH stores them all up till morning, then goes into the en suite for a wee and releases a 5-minute trumpet solo. That’s just witchcraft IMO.

Being in an intimate relationship means taking the good and the bad parts of being human, surely! I can’t imagine not feeling comfortable enough with the person whose children I’ve birthed to not fart in front of them (worse happened in pregnancy and labour, let’s put it that way!). There’s a time and place for all things, but at home with only immediate family members, who cares?! I’m sure one day we’ll be changing each other’s incontinence pads. It’s part of the deal. You just can’t be bashful about these things.

I agree. We don't go out of our way to let rip a stinky one right next to each other, but we are not embarrassed to have a fart if needed. It's just part of life and having a working body. We still find each other attractive, no problem there!

I never have and when we were first together I told him I found it deeply unattractive as he was a farty bloke and 27 years old.

He carried on for a while but gradually got the message you fart and smell then no sex!

Accidentally etc I'm not arsed but he was the fart and hold your head under the duvet type, thinking he was funny. Blurgh...

Ginburee · 16/02/2025 22:36

We are a free farting family,
I would love to be able to fart on demand but as someone with IBS sometimes you just can't take the risk.

This thread has reduced me to tears of laughter, as well as reminding me of numerous indiscretions of mine & people around me...I remember years ago demonstrating a cylinder vacuum cleaner to a customer in the store I worked in. I said "you switch it on here..." and she said "let me try" and promptly let one rip as she bent over to fire it up.

Devianinc · 16/02/2025 22:32

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 16/02/2025 20:52

It’s just a fart. It’s part of life. But then I guess I have a job where I regularly have to assess peoples ability to toilet themselves. So all the bodily functions are just that to me. It’s natural and not something to be coy about.

if I stay at my sisters we like to see which of us can fart the other awake. It’s hilarious 🤣.

So, you can fart on demand? Just curious bc I can’t, only when I’m gassy not bc I want to. Haha
