Not farting in front of DH

Not really an AIBU but I love hearing what others think!

Have been with my DH for 18 years and have never intentionally farted in front of him. I mean I know it’s impossible to hold every fart in but he’s never actually heard one! If I need to I would go in another room or be discreet. My mum and sister are the same and a couple of friends. Also my DH is the same and won’t in front of me unless he does by mistake!

I know it’s natural and everyone does it but I’d never want to endure someone’s else’s fart nor make them endure mine! It hardly makes you attractive does it! That being said I wouldn’t fart in front of anyone… I mean maybe the dog!

what do you think?!

We fart with free abandon in this house. Long and loud. Why not?

Farts are hilarious and far better out than in. 🤣🤣

I don't find farts remotely amusing.

Don't get me wrong, I have a very questionable sense of humour which some people would find highly offensive and I stupidly laugh when people fall down😂. Farts and loos? not really.

meganorks · 17/02/2025 14:10

Farts are funny. Its just a fact. If you can't fart in the comfort of your own home, then where can you?!

MiddleAgedDread · 17/02/2025 14:09

We'd never spent time in the same room together if we didn't fart in front of each other!!

I have always been discreet in front of DH (10 years). Last week that all changed with something I ate that didn't agree with me. He is probably disgusted but I feel liberated and won't be silenced any longer.

😂😂

Why not? The smell...

Rarely any smell.

When I was growing up my parents would have farting competitions. Those were the days. 🤣 We aren't uptight about farts in this house.

Reminds me of a pseudo-posh elderly lady I used to live nextdoor to, who was visiting me one afternoon...she farted and without blinking an eyelid said "pardon me, I knew there was something I meant to do earlier". 😫

To this day I don't know if she meant break wind or visit the bathroom.

That's brilliant 😂

When OH and I first met we planned a really nice romantic weekend away, dinner out, posh hotel, the works. It's was the first time we'd spent the night together so were really making an effort. I was DESPERATE for a trump and was lying there are cramped up pretending to be asleep, waiting until he'd gone to bathroom before risking sneaking it out. Finally got my chance and my expected teeny tiny puff of a trump came out as the loudest, longest, rattling thunderous enormous fart you've ever heard in your life. All I heard was him shout "What THE FUCK was that?!" from the en suite and then just roars of laughter. He laughed so much he said it was a battle to keep his aim in the loo. There's been no point whatsoever in hiding it since. 🙈

My 10 year old daughter and her friend ran in the house once to get me and my husband to watch a trick they’d learned on the trampoline.

After laying on their back, and scooping their legs like breast stroke, they then straightened up and pulled their legs back behind their heads and did the loudest fanny farts and then sat up laughing and watching for our applause at the trick!! We just looked at each other wide eyed trying not to laugh….he walked away sharpish and I just cried laughing 😂

Fair play. I'd probably laugh too then encourage them not to make it their party trick.

But i don't find fanny farts gross , it's just air being squeezed out. My issue with farts is they make the room / environment unpleasant

Babybaby2025 · 17/02/2025 13:32

Every fanny fart I've done has been unintentional so don't fall into same category for me. Plus they don't smell.

Can people fanny fart on demand ?

Also what’s the stance on fanny farts? Acceptable or not…or is that a whole different thread 🤣

My DH once held my hand and stroked my hair while a poor, sweet nurse manually extracted my poo with her gloved fingers because I was so severely constipated and dehydrated with hyperemesis during pregnancy.

I now have Crohn’s disease and can rattle the windows. Frequently!

The mystery in our 30 year relationship left so long ago it’s probably on Mars by now!

We fart freely in our house. We now have an 8 week old baby who suffers with terrible trapped wind so every fart he produces is cause for great celebration! Bicycle legs every night and whooping and cheering at every little fart.

When I was breastfeeding I found that eating certain foods seem to make my baby uncomfortably windy. I gave up wine and eating grapes, citrus fruits, onions and curry until he'd stopped breastfeeding, as all these seemed to exacerbate his windiness.

YouknowIknowbest · 17/02/2025 13:07

I can’t imagine a life where farting in front of the family wasn’t normal??

I mean where else do you get that kind of laughter, jokes, ridicule, comparisons, acting out feigned deaths and calls of “has that one touched cloth” come from??

Weirdos, the lot of ya 😂

Reallyneedsaholiday · 17/02/2025 12:54

I’ve always removed myself from the room, if I’ve needed to pass wind, and tbh I find it excruciating when others just let rip and think it’s hilarious. I can’t think of many things that I find less funny. I find so called “toilet humour” annoying.
I don’t judge other people for what they do in their own space, but don’t expect me to howl with feigned laugher over because you decided to let one go in a public space.

Seems there’s a market for all you flatulent foxes out there

Not farting in front of DH
JHound · 17/02/2025 12:34

I have never intentionally farted in front of a partner.

But then never lived with a partner so not sure how long I could keep that up as I an very gassy.

In front of siblings / parents I fart with freedom.

Emmz1510 · 17/02/2025 12:26

Nah I’m not intentional farter and can’t say either DH or I find it particularly funny. I’m not uptight about it and if I do it accidentally in front of DH it’s no big deal, I don’t do it deliberately. I try to NEVER fart in front of anyone else. I hate it in company.

sherbertcandy · 17/02/2025 12:26

I have a stoma so I cannot hide noises so we just joke about it but at least there's no smell 🫣🤷‍♀️

Trambopoline · 17/02/2025 12:24

Same here! There were a couple of slips in late pregnancy but apart from that no I don’t fart in front of anyone. I don’t really mind it if other people fart but can’t face doing it myself 🤷🏼‍♀️

I honestly cannot see how I would want to have sex with someone after this.

That would put me off from the first date!

This. I'm with you, OP. I'd get the ick and wouldn't fancy them anymore.

Because it leads straight into our bedroom.

If you cannot understand, you cannot understand.
But it certainly is a courtesy that many women would acknowledge as such.

But surely that's part of the package with an en-suite? It's a toilet right next to your bedroom - meaning that you have both the convenience and the sounds and smells of somebody using a toilet right near your bed?!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 17/02/2025 10:59

No, but I don't fart much anyway.

I like belching to release gas so I suppose it is similar, less smelly.
