DH not happy

I have just entertained DMIL DFIL and all the family for a roast dinner. We had a bottle of bubbles when they arrived. I cooked and served a full roast. Then we went for a walk, we have 4 under 5.
When we got back I did teas and coffees for everyone. Cleared, unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher etc. As well as breastfeeding a baby.
Had a quick dance party to tire kids out.
during which DH commented I was drunk and should stop dancing.
We have now put the kids to bed.
Have poured a glass of wine out of what was left from DMIL and DFiL bottle they left with us. Fully thought I earned it but maybe not. Am I wrong.

I would ask how you discovered this but I fear it would cause some posters to expire from shock and disgust.

I think it already has. The braying from the fun sponges has thinned somewhat.

Another fun fact, the top of a Fruit Shoot bottle fits on to the top of a bottle of wine!

I like that! Off to buy a fruit shoot in the morning.

Or 3. 😂

But the 3 were not after all that 🤣, they were spaced out over the day!

Thedownstream · 16/02/2025 21:11

Wow, OP you are truly superhuman to have done all that with 4 kids under 5. Did your DH not help at all? I would have been in no position to do all of that with my kids whilst breastfeeding one of them and with DH not helping.

How old is your baby through? If you say just a few weeks I might question whether you’d be tipsy after a couple of glasses. Presumably you didn’t drink when pregnant and for me even one glass after a long break left me tipsy and with a hangover. I wouldn’t have been able to look after a baby after 2 even if spread out. If baby is a few months old and your not likely to need to feed them in the next few hours then 3 glasses doesn’t feel like a problem (from a taking care of the baby perspective rather than a breastfeeding perspective, which seems fine regardless). I could not however cope with looking after the kids the next day even with a mild hangover, hence I am teetotal at the moment.

Hopefully, she's in bed making up her mind not to host the husband's family anytime soon again.

PandaTime · 16/02/2025 21:02

Someone once bought me a wine glass that could hold a full bottle of wine. Being a compulsive sipper, I finished my drink it in under 30 mins. 😅 Never again. Must stick to normal wine glasses.

WhatFreshHellisThese · 16/02/2025 21:01

Whoops crucial word of my post missing: very very LITTLE alcohol goes in the breast milk. Like fresh orange juice type equivalent as other have said

pelargoniums · 16/02/2025 21:01

I’m all for binge drinking but I must draw the line at fruit shoots

So.... it becomes a giant adult fruit shoot? I'm living for this information 😂

PandaTime · 16/02/2025 20:59

For me, it depends on what his concern is. You've had 3 glasses so far, but is that your limit or are you someone who keeps going? Or are you someone who turns obnoxious after a drink and he's dreading that? It's rather strange to accuse someone of being drunk after 2 glasses of wine without there being a background to it.

Here's a fun fact! A whole bottle of wine can be one glass if you pop a straw in it.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 16/02/2025 20:58

I'd love a glass of prosecco right now!!! Pregnant so can't.
With my first 2 babies i researched for hours about the science of breastfeeding and alcohol and came to the conclusion that a few, sensibly, is fine.
No idea where they NHS got this "one drink a day" rule from. Doesn't seem to be any scientific basis behind it and people often quote NHS guidelines as gospel even though they change on a regular basis and you may on occasion be given advice from HCP (such as my own GP in one instance) that completely contradicts the stated "rules" online.
As for people saying op is binge drinking by having 3 glasses spread over an entire day with exercise, food and soft drinks in between. Give your head a wobble.

User21012025 · 16/02/2025 20:54

I would assume OP, that he felt equally guilty and envious of the lovely afternoon you had planned and delivered for your families, and the only way he knew how to react to this was to sulk. Extremely childish and self indulgent. Rather than thank you and praise you, he has chosen to (try) and make you feel ashamed- does he often do this?
It sounds like a lovely afternoon for your family, well done you.

She’s probably down the park with a bottle of White Lightning.

*Joke. Just in case there’s any doubt.

With 4 under 5, a breastfeeding drunk baby, having single-handedly hosted her in-laws, cooked a roast, cleared up, organised a dance party and gone on a “Robbie at Glastonbury with Oasis” bender, I hope she’s in bed.

Babyitscoldoutside1 · 16/02/2025 19:22

Wow the breastfeeding and drinking haters with no scientific proof are out in force today. Fml. I guess u can join my husband in the bin

@Babyitscoldoutside1 l don't know why people are so uptight about the breastfeeding. I was breastfeeding not that long ago and recent research indicates very very alcohol goes into the breast milk

With regards to your original question. Your husband sounds lazy and judgey. Why are you doing all the heavy lifting when him and his mother do side eye?! 3 drinks, large meal, exercise and donkey work doesn't make for a pissed up experience

It’s uptight to think a bottle isn’t 3 glasses on a normal occasion for the majority of people? 👌 okay.

I've no idea if she is lying however you don't tend to accuse people of being drunk unless they are. She's said 3 glasses, people always underplay the amount they consume.

Not if she's actually only had 3 glasses.

Sounds like her DH is just miserable and likely didn't want the noise of the kids dancing around. Of course some people will accuse others of being drunk when they aren't, especially if they are miserable, controlling etc.

Completelyjo · 16/02/2025 20:47

Gloriia · 16/02/2025 20:41

Yes of course, the dh should have assisted. Maybe he did, we obviously only have the ops side of the story.

When someone says someone is drunk there is usually an issue.

Odd.
Usually if someone sits back and allows their wife to cook snd serve to the entire family, in-laws included, plus do all the cleaning up and looking after children there’s an issue.

Greywarden · 16/02/2025 20:46

OP, I hope you can ignore the haters, both on here and in the form of your own DH.

It sounds like you've been incredible and your DH just couldn't handle you enjoying yourself at the same time as having fun with your DCs.

If it's a one off then fair enough - I suppose most arsehole moments can be contextualised and explained and maybe there is something else going on for your DH that makes his reaction understandable (that isn't to say it's excusable though and I'm glad that you seem to be holding your ground and enjoying another glass or two!).

If it's part of a pattern though, this could potentially be pretty shit. It sounds killjoy and possibly controlling of him. I hope it's not the way he usually reacts to you.

Btw, having a dance with your kids sounds lovely and I somt think you'd be entitled to criticism over this even if you hadn't been working your butt off for your family all day already!

Gloriia · 16/02/2025 20:45

SouthLondonMum22 · 16/02/2025 20:43

Now OP is a liar too. Of course.

No there isn't. Especially if that person is an arsehole.
