... to ask you to practise parking it in a single space? Saturday afternoon in the town multistorey and the number of huge cars parked half in a second space is 🤯

And if you drive a 4x4 SUV and meet a VW Golf on a narrow road it should be YOU that goes onto the gravel verge.

I always do. It's just common sense when my tyres and wheels are so much bigger and have better traction etc.

Not at all smug. Just a very sensible attitude and approach to driving a large car like a RR, surely? Why wouldn't you learn how to properly drive it?

And I don't see the point in owning one if it'd going to cause you stress because you're worried about it getting scratched, or some twat keying it? If you cannot really afford to maintain it or repair it, don't buy one.

I don't see it as a status symbol, for me that would be something like a vintage Aston Martin

Or a handmade Morgan 🙂

Fair enough, but there is no need to drive into central London. You can park your tesco tractor somewhere in Zone 4 and use public transport like the rest of us do.

I don’t own a Tesco tractor 🤣🤣🤣 I didn’t even know tescos had them
but
I do park in ebbsfleet and use PT from there ( along with many I know )

However,if I’m going to town ( even London ) and I need stuff. ie For work. Then I can’t carry it all on the tube, bus, train, taxi as
its too heavy
There’s too much of it
Its too bulky
Im not hulk

Im sure there are many others that drive to town using a vehicle and not public transport because they have stuff…..have you seen the lines and lines of white vans exiting London from 2pm onwards.

What does this even mean??

Also to the poster you've quoted, 500's are not fucking tiny 🤣 Are you sure you owned one?

Mine was tiny. It was about 10 years old though. Maybe they're bigger nowadays?

My god, the comments and judgements on here are insane. Why can’t people drive an SUV if they want to, much safer for a driver. I agree that Range Rovers are huge but a lot are not. My VW T -Roc is an amazing car, does not feel huge but is a lot easier to park than my old Mini and a lot safer for me. Also has beepers everywhere just in case some unsupervised child wanders behind me when I have reversing lights on, just like most modern cars.

Why the hate, it makes no sense…live and let live! Most bad parking is drivers and not cars.

Safer for you as a driver, much more dangerous for cyclists, pedestrians and other road users who will most definitely come off worst if you hit them.

RRs are like the grown up equivalent of Fiat 500s to me. It’s not a compliment!

Is there a correlation with the vast increase in in pot holes and damaged roads and oversized heavy cars?

A big SUV is about 3tons, A HGV can be up to 44tons. Which of these do you think does the most damage?

Arraminta · 15/02/2025 20:47

Drylogsonly · 15/02/2025 20:20

Wow, just wow. What a post! RR courses…

Yes, Range Rover run courses if you want to learn how to properly take them off road etc. I fail to see why that is so shocking?

SlaveToAGoldenRetriever · 15/02/2025 20:45

Arraminta · 15/02/2025 20:43

Me too. My previous car was a tiny Fiat 500. Did I get a surprise personality change when I picked up the keys to my RR? How peculiar!

I’ve yet to see boot space in an SUV that could easily fit canvas 6m bell tents and metal poles like our estate can.

I’ll admit the current sloping backs on estates are an annoyance which is why I prefer the older versions that are bulky. But we buy cars for practicality not aesthetics.

My mums CRV can fit more than our civic tourer

Except we don’t all exist in a country bubble. Sometimes we have to drive into town.
Some might even need to go to a city. Like London.

Ive never owned a car whilst living in a city, as public transport is very good, but I do need to drive in and out now and most of us don’t buy an extra car to do that. Nor should we have to.

I have a enormous SUV and a tiny 4 seat city car. I use both equally, depending on need. Do I become a different type of person depending on which car I'm sat in? How do you know so much about me?

No. It correlates with
Sat navs and
people getting more ‘stuff’ delivered to them at home.

They're too big for single spaces a lot of the time.

They're too big full stop.

Fucking ridiculous for city dwellers to have these wanky child killing machines.

If you have one, I judge you.

I don't care.

cramptramp · 15/02/2025 20:37

I don't go to multi storeys because of this reason.

Bubblyb00b · 15/02/2025 20:31

Ok, I get you, but the overall jist of my comment was they are for countryside, not for cities.

Not all farmers own horses ! ( if you were referring to pp re needed to horse boxes )
Not just farmers need 4x4s. If you use country roads all the time you’ll see they are not regularly, in fact never, upgraded. The back country roads are very difficult to navigate in lower slung cars.
People need those big tires to get over the constant pot holes and unmade dirt roads.

They’re bad ass? The vantage point is good and high? They’re loud and chuntery? They tow? They fit lots? I can fit a sheep in it? They bounce nicely across fields? You can drive through closed gates?

I did mention farmers

Off road courses were free when you used to buy a new Land Rover - well they used to be.

I learnt so much about driving a car and definitely benefitted from them

I am a driving instructor and teach parking day in day out. I can park perfectly in my little fiesta but even I find it difficult when idiots park so close to one line or hang their cars over the back of a space.

I don’t see a good reason to have a ginormous
4 x 4!

What about vans.
More often than not empty in the back.
Any good reason for them to be used.

just thinking of my cousins dh driving his white van every day with nothing more than a few paint pots in the back
