There is just not enough money to live a nice, fairly average life now on good jobs. Really what is the point? Just working to survive until we retire, probably in our 70’s, if we’re lucky to make it that long..it’s crap! It isn’t a life and isnt the way it should be.

Have been watching the programmes with Olivia Attwood (think that’s her name) and all these people earning thousands a month with the aim of working a few years to earn a few million and be done. A lot of them seem to have captured niche markets, work from home, work for themselves…I don’t know, how much longer to go out every day to work, to slog my guts out just to get by.

I don’t blame them for doing it

Loads of people are turning to it because it pays well and can be done from home, but I can see why some have concerns. It’s not as simple as just posting pictures; keeping up with messages and promotions can be draining. PostSync could help manage posts and keep things organised, but even then, it’s still work. Some find it empowering, others feel uneasy about the risks involved.

Inmydreams88 · 19/03/2025 07:50

I’d rather be poor for life and work in a supermarket or as a cleaner than do only fans but each to their own.

Augustus40 · 19/03/2025 07:45

Did you hea r about the woman who makes 5k a week selling toenail clippings?!

People pay for OnlyFans for many reasons, but seeing more extreme acts than they'd see on PornHub isn't one of them

@ItGhoul why is it that men pay then given the amount of free porn available? Genuine question. It's always confused me and the only potential reason I can come up with is that they like feeling they have power as they can make women do something for money?

They pay for all sorts of reasons. Because they like a specific performer and feel it’s less impersonal, or have a specific fetish that’s pretty niche, or because they want to interact with the performer, or because they (correctly) believe it’s more ethical to get their porn from someone who runs their own account, decides on their own content, is over the age of consent and is getting paid for their work, rather than going on PornHub where they have no idea if the performer was paid or consented to have the video shared.

Extreme material is really not what OnlyFans is known for. I know a bloke who has an OnlyFans and none of his content is fully nude. It’s very suggestive and he wears less than he does on his Instagram - underwear, basically - but he’s never done any nude content. His subscribers are about 40% men and 60% women. Apparently he gets way more explicit messages from women than he does from men.

Dear OP,
You are posting this on Mumsnet.
What do you expect the general consensus to be? 😂

wizzywig · 11/02/2025 23:02

£150 a month is a nice little top up.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 11/02/2025 22:57

i love that people can make money from things like feet pictures!! I sold a pair of socks on Vinted and the guy messaged me asking if I had more and then said he didn’t mind if they were worn or not !! I haven’t done anything about im wondering if I should sell him my old dirty socks and make a bit of money

some men are into weird stuff and if they are willing To pay for it why shouldn’t woman take the money.

i know people who sell their underwear online too

UPDATE ON QUESTIONS

i was told to give it a go by a random Chinese lady who was behind me in a bowling queue in turkey

she approached me and said im being very direct here but you could make loads with them

i said what do you mean?
her reply i heard your shoe size i make hundreds
(this person was 4ft 8 and a size child 12)

she told me how it works and i thought why not
made a few hundred with my very first one and went from there

ive only ever been a SAHM then a full time carer
no idea this world existed

she also told me i could make loads from my boobs(i was a M at the time)but i wasn't going that far

there's a few sites that does it but i make most on feet finder
ive never seen anyone near my size so i think the size does make a difference

i wouldnt do it if i was normal size

just make a account and upload photos

ive a bank account just for this
the site does takes a bit off you
then a bit later money comes in

i dont pay for pedicures or anything like that just look after my feet low key my self

So are your feet big or small? Why are they do in demand?

So out of curiosity I went and looked on OF. Without creating an account you can’t actually see much but they sort of show snippets of different content - videos on Super Bowl snacks anyone?
Essentially it seemed like any other social media outlet - like a large amount of time and effort would have to go into creating the content to get anywhere.
Frankly if someone wants to do that to the extent it brings in big bucks, fair play to them!

ImAChangeling · 11/02/2025 22:14

My niece is on OF, she got involved in the early days of the platform. She was thousands in debt after graduating from a 6 year degree. She’s now debt free and owns her home outright due to her OF earnings. For her it was partly timing, and good marketing. There are many more creators on there now.

I totally get it too OP. If I was 20 again with the brain I had then, yes it's possible I could consider this as a viable option. I was rather promiscuous and didn't really have the insight to understand it then. I was also working in a job dominated by very sexist and maybe more males. Not getting paid too great for it.

It goes against all my values and personal insights now I'm older wiser and years of counselling later. Back then though, yes I think I would have seriously considered it. If there was an option to remain unidentifiable and conceal my face then I certainly would have been exploring all possibilities.

No amount of money received for doing things for the sadistic pleasures of men will make up for the scars it will cause, forever. Scars that you won't know are even there. No amount of money is worth it.

But you will know they're there, won't you? Because you are properly aware and the rest of us are not.

Lavenderflower · 11/02/2025 21:21

I could never do it. It must be soul destroying.

staceyflack · 11/02/2025 21:19

@Screamingabdabz not only are you wrong, you are also judgemental, ignorant and unkind 🤐

Diomi · 11/02/2025 21:08

If you look at the average earnings, it probably works out at less than minimum wage for most people and much more precarious and less pleasant than many regular jobs.

Crushed23 · 11/02/2025 21:05

We're just in a world where we're being conditioned to think well-paid side hustles are the norm. The reality is most lose you money, or take so many hours it works out well below minimum wage - the saying 'if it sounds too good to be true it probably is' applies here. There are decent side hustles, but very few that take minimal effort.

Never a truer word.

I like the advice - though I can't remember who said it - "make your side hustle your main hustle or forget about it".

Jumpingthruhoops · 11/02/2025 20:53

SunsetCocktails · 11/02/2025 14:52

This. Start out doing a few sexy poses and before you know it you're doing 'how many men can I fit in my back door' Lily Philips style

That's actually really patronising. You do know some women are capable of setting boundaries and sticking to them?

StormyPotatoes · 11/02/2025 20:49

@Tooearlytothink It’s not about accepting others decisions (though it’s certainly not true to say that individual women's choices are always harmless to women as a class).

Posts like this add to the myth that there’s good, easy money to be made on OF, but the average earnings are actually around £150 per month. This is a really dangerous message to promote as it encourages desperate women to join. Someone up thread said it’s like a Ponzi scheme and that’s exactly it. Join, give more and more and eventually you’ll be in the 1% making an actual wage…

To make real money, it’s a full time job. It requires the time to create the content, engagement, marketing, interacting with fans and bespoke requests. And then it’s finding an angle that sets you out from the other 4 million creators. All whilst trying to keep fresh and interesting for your subscribers (who, let’s face it, are going to be creeps).

And that’s all without touching on the psychological fallout.

coxesorangepippin · 11/02/2025 20:38

They all have one thing in common though - they are as dumb as mince and have no self respect. If that’s you, go for it!
^

This is too simplistic an assumption

Would you say someone was thick as mince and had no self respect who worked in an abbatoir for minimum wage??

From what I have heard, I have to admit that OF sounds like easy money. If you're willing to do stuff that men will pay for -

And to a certain extent it's safe, you don't actually meet these men!

I think I've found my niche, my farts are legendary! Big bucks here I come 😂

I read a while ago about that woman flogging her farts in a jar and thought "fuck me, I could make a fortune!" 🤣 Really need to get round to sorting some jars out...

I2amonlyhereforTheBeer · 11/02/2025 20:28

So are you thinking of doing it? I agree with other posters here about Only Fans in that you'll probably have to sell your soul and you need to keep going and evolving to keep up with the competition, keep getting 'likes' to ensure you're out there at the forefront. But there's a growing demand for porn that's more authentic, erotic and appeals to women, so a rise in couples creating their own porn from home. Lustery is just one such website that's an alternative to the crap that is Pornhub. So, if you and your partner can be paid to get it on in your own way in your own home. why not?

Tooearlytothink · 11/02/2025 20:17

Clearly nobody replying has watched the show you're talking about. I have & totally get what you're saying. Some of them don't even do anything particularly revealing. The ones who make money slagging men off are particularly clever, who knew that could be monetised to that degree. It's not for me but can't fathom how rude/harsh some of the comments here are about these women. The joy of being an open minded adult is surely being able to accept others live a life that's not for you and as long as they're not hurting anyone there's really no need to be so set against it. If we as women can't even allow each other that grace, how can we expect men to.
