To think being single should be celebrated more than getting married?

Marriage gets all the glory, but choosing to focus on yourself or remain single is just as valid, if not braver.

I think I'd love a single mother celebration campaign run by one of those companies trying to sell bath products, like dove

It would say 'a single parent family isn't a broken family'

To what purpose? What would it add to your life?

Celebrated in what way? It’s nice to have a celebratory meal or something if you’ve achieved something but it’s not something I’d expect for being a mum. Unless it’s something nice from my kids on Mother’s Day

The people celebrating their milestones tend to be the ones throwing the party, even if officially someone else stands in as host. People can throw a party to celebrate a promotion or mastering a new skill just as easily, they just have to decide to spend the time and money.

I'm gonna get some comments but I think that single mums should be celebrated - not pitied and looked down on but genuinely celebrated

As should single women who achieve things

Edit - like at valentines day, single people should be celebrated

And you could throw a 'I'm not having a baby' party a la Samantha Jones, or an I'm not getting married party - could be fun

Edited

Yes! My lovely neighbour of nearly 70 asked me last week if we could each get each other a valentine's day card. I think I'll add a little bunch of flowers too, bless her.

Getting married is an event.
Not getting married is a non event.

For me, accepting someone into my life was braver than remaining single

Nothing wrong with being single, and many people prefer it. But I'm not sure how I feel about people celebrating "choosing to focus on themselves". Most people choose to focus on themselves, let's be honest.

Celebrate independence, for sure, and people achieving things by themselves.

People getting married throw themselves parties to celebrate. Nothing is stopping single people to throw similar parties and celebrate?
