To think being single should be celebrated more than getting married?

Marriage gets all the glory, but choosing to focus on yourself or remain single is just as valid, if not braver.

There's loads of us - and single dads (who are the resident parent, not those men who see their kids once a month but use the title)

And?

I think I'd love a single mother celebration campaign run by one of those companies trying to sell bath products, like dove

It would say 'a single parent family isn't a broken family'

That would be a stupid slogan.

SecondMrsTanqueray · 10/02/2025 17:19

I’m not sure many people think being single is something to be celebrated.

GingerBaby568 · 10/02/2025 17:16

People celebrate an occasion/event. No one actually gives a crap about your marriage. If you didn't throw a party when getting married, there would be no celebration.

I have cards for my kids already too. <3 <3

Enjoy your lovely day with your daughter x

Thank you and you 🥰

Omg yes! No-one seems to know about it though, a viral ad campaign would raise awareness

Like for international women's day

Whoever judges you won’t be swayed by a campaign from a company making bath products 🤷🏻‍♀️
Besides, companies run ad campaigns to increase sales.
Why would a campaign centring single mothers increase sales for any company?

That's why I'm single lol but I am fine with that.

Snap!!!!

Can't you just relax with an over priced bath bomb and keep repeating that to yourself?

Not sure we need an actual campaign for it? 😳

😩😄 no!

You could have a left the waste of space dh/dp party.

Skandar · 10/02/2025 16:46

I really want to ban the use of the word 'valid' - its so overused....

Getting married is a change in your situation. Staying single is, well, staying the same. Nothing at all stopping you throwing a party to celebrate the fact if you want - I'm always up for a nice meal, drinks and some dancing.

UndermyShoeJoe · 10/02/2025 16:46

You want to be celebrated for doing nothing? And I don’t mean that to sound as harsh but people celebrate a wedding, a child being born, a birthday, a christening. These are all things. Events.

Being single is just being single. You’ve not done anything to be single apart from just be single. You’ve not made a commitment, lived another year, promised yourself to god, been just born.

I mean if you want a party throw one but it’s not other people’s jobs to throw it for you. All the other events celebrated are mostly paid for by the person/couple.

Throw a I got a promotion party, quit that job I hate party or whatever.

FastFood · 10/02/2025 16:46

Why do we need people to celebrate our life choices?
I'm single, I don't need a West End musical about my life and how brave I am as a singleton to be happy.

WhatATediousPeacock · 10/02/2025 16:45

WilmaTitsDrop · 10/02/2025 16:36

How often should single people throw a party?

Daily? Weekly? Monthly? Yearly?

Fucking hell, it'd be cheaper to get married 🤣🤣

Yes, this was my niggle too. Getting married is a line in the sand - one day you're not married and the next you are. When would the single party be?

ChocolatesAndRainbows · 10/02/2025 16:42

Felizsenora · 10/02/2025 16:36

What about if the reason you're single is simply because noone wants to marry you?

That's why I'm single lol but I am fine with that.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 10/02/2025 16:37

I'm just sick of being judged for being a single mum tbh 🙃

Plus, I'm a firm believer in celebration - I'd love an international single parents day, recognising the strength of different family types

The only “glory” is a wedding, which they are paying to host. If you want one, throw yourself a big party.

I’ve been to some excellent divorce parties.

JandamiHash · 10/02/2025 16:36

TBH, I don’t really care about either choice, but when single people throw a lavish day-long affair where I can turn up and get free booze and food, enjoy company with friends and have a disco at the end, I’ll celebrate their singleness. Until then I enjoy every moment of a wedding.

Yes! My lovely neighbour of nearly 70 asked me last week if we could each get each other a valentine's day card. I think I'll add a little bunch of flowers too, bless her.

I'm buying one for dd and cooking her fave meal🥰 (sausages 🤭)

Enjoy, I think that's lovely! and how valentines should be celebrated x
