Ainu to think Angela Rayners has been set up to fail on her 1.5m homes target ?
you can barely get planning permission through for a small extension in under 10 weeks let alone 1.5 m new homes
Every month that goes by the shortage compounds
I wonder if Kier has set her up to fail

I know not housing but anyway

I see Starmer has gone all Trumpian

Removed citizenship, filming flights and no to Gazans

Trump Wednesday anyone would think he's taken a look at Reform polls

You couldn't make it up could you!
I wonder what Starmer's new nickname will be now he's turned into Nasty Nige?

Anyone seen the new health minister saying people can identify as llamas …where do they find these people? it’s sheer madness

I thought that was a joke until I googled it

Does that mean they won't get fined for spitting in the street?

Wes Streeting backs new minister who says you can identify as Llamas

The Heath Secretary was confronted in the Commons about remarks by Ashley Dalton, who was appointed a new minister in his department by Sir Keir Starmer on Monday.

Remember, the UK Is a puppy to US and always has been, this explains a lot of recent decisions, such as pro Israel stance and anti AI regulation.

No thread using names like "Angela from Housing" or "Rachel from Accounts" is worth bothering with.

Yet here you are.

Affordable is 10% below market value. We need social housing not £250k houses for sale at £225k.

Wow, only 10% 😳
We absolutely do require more social housing but many workers are not entitled to it and are told to rent privately.
How on earth will they be able to afford an ‘affordable’ house when rents are at ridiculously high levels.

Another interesting development (sorry, nothing to do with housing or accounts, but current government, it seems to be the only political thread running now)

US and UK refuse to sign summit declaration on AI

Signed by countries including China, India and Germany, the summit declaration calls for “ensuring AI is open, inclusive, transparent, ethical, safe, secure and trustworthy, taking into account international frameworks for all”.

UK didn't sign it, the same as US. China did. Mr Starmer is happy to give tons of money to Red Ed on climate change but wouldn't sign a doc trying to give just a tiny bit safety to something which is most likely to transform the world and our lives in the most profound way.

Probably choosing the battles they’re inevitably going to have with the Trump regime. I think Starmer is ignoring all the furore and outrage Trump is deliberately causing and will take a more thoughtful pragmatic view of how to handle it

The issue is the housing won’t be affordable for those who earn around minimum wage.
Affordable housing hasn’t been affordable for many years.

I feel like Labour are doing that SM campaign linked below on pushing deportation headlines. It's not really working mind you

Interesting to see them panic on Reform's polling

Wonder what they'll do in summer as numbers go up

TheNuthatch · 12/02/2025 08:51

Parsley1234 · 11/02/2025 22:11

@TheNuthatch yes a great idea it wd move on so fast it wd be lightening. Nothing to do with Rayner or housing let’s have a conversation about WEF Davos and is Starmer in thrall to them at the expense of the UK ?

Ooh love a bit of Davos!
Sounds like you've already got a good thread title there!

It will be interesting to see how much of the new housing will be built in the traditional Tory constituencies. Particularly the ones that turned red at the election with slim majorities.

The targets are certainly higher in Tory areas. Whether these will be met is another matter.

I keep thinking we need a general running thread to moan about the government and the economy.

JoyousGreyOrca · 11/02/2025 18:41

@yellowspanner so you are comfortable with misogyny and classism?

2 sacked labour MPs and 11 suspended councillors are certainly OK with it!

TheNuthatch · 11/02/2025 19:27

Parsley1234 · 11/02/2025 18:50

bring back spitting image god they’d be having a field day

Yes! Can you imagine what they could do with this government!
