I followed my male colleague on instagram because I have been following a lot of my colleagues recently however he never followed me back, yet he posted stories. As well as this he was off with me in work today.

should I block him, unfollow him or what? I need advice

am i being unreasonable for being upset about this?

It sounds like you have bad anxiety and you are massively overthinking this. I wouldn't give it a second thought. He won't be. Honestly, it's fine. Just leave it as it is. Do nothing and forget about it. Ignore the very unkind PPs who don't understand anxiety.

Is this real? Like really a thing that people old enough to have a job think about? It's mind blowing.

Pathetic isn't it

Catza · 07/02/2025 07:01

Do you enjoy the content he posts? Because that is the only reason to follow someone on IG. If you don't enjoy it, then umfollow. If you do, then don't. I don't follow most people who follow me. Especially if there is nothing valuable in their feed. I don't need pictures of people's breakfasts and fresh pedicures on my feed.

Have I embarrassed myself?

On this thread, yes. In real life... probably. It depends if you're work friends or just colleagues. If just colleagues, then yes, you have embarrassed yourself by adding him on social media. You can avoid further embarrassment by doing absolutely nothing.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 07/02/2025 06:47

I don't follow work colleagues, not even ones I'm actual friends with. When one of us leaves I'll add them but my social media is my non work life and that's the way it will stay.

Fuzziduck · 07/02/2025 06:34

Just unfollow him.
He probably thinks it's weird that you follow him, when he's not a friend.

I wouldn't be adding work colleagues. Established work friends, maybe.

JustMyView13 · 07/02/2025 06:29

Stop having work colleagues on your social media. They’re your colleagues, not your friends.

IhadaStripeyDeckchair · 07/02/2025 06:29

Work is work
Private life is everything outside work
Keep the two totally separate
Work colleagues are never friends
Social media and work should be kept apart

I recently put a post on fbk market place asking for a valetor, a guy replied, I thanked him but didn’t choose him.

Then he’s friends requested me, odd, I looked at his profile and recognised him slightly but didn’t know where from. Next day I saw him at the pool, I swim every morning, I find that creepy, no need, now I cringe every time I see him 😡

President Zelensky: Why did you invade my country?
Presiden Putin: Because you didn't follow me back on Insta

ThatLilacHedgehog · 07/02/2025 00:50

What’s creepy?

Following work colleagues is weird. They are colleagues, so why on earth, apart from sheer nosiness, would you be interested in their Ig life?
As for the colleague who never followed you back.. I suspect he is a fully functioning adult who really doesn't want/need your likes in order to get on with his grown up professional life. However, if this is sooooo important to you, report him to HR for not following you on SM and then for giving you a 'being off with you'. While a meaningless phrase and unassessable, I am sure they can force him to follow you back and like at least three of your posts per dium, or face dismissal.

What a pathetic state of affairs

LittleBigHead · 07/02/2025 04:14

Sorry, but are you 13, OP?

RawBloomers · 07/02/2025 04:11

Presumably the issue with him posting stories (on his own insta account!) is simply that it means he still uses it, so your issue is that you followed him and he isn't interested in following you?

If this really is the crux of the issue - get off social media until you've matured.

If you want to watch his stream, follow him. If you don't then stop following him. Do not follow someone because you expect some kind of tit-for-tat community building. If you want people to follow you then post stuff they're interested in. Don't expect people to clutter their streams just because you want more followers.

Following someone does not oblige them to follow you. You're not important. You're not special. You're just a person he works with and he isn't obliged to do the things you want him to. He can use Insta the way he wants to.

If your immaturity over this is echoed in your interactions with him in other ways, that will easily explain why he was off with you. Otherwise perhaps he was having an off day, or he doesn't follow people he isn't friends with and he thinks you're a bit of a creepy stalker.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 07/02/2025 03:36

Why are you upset? Are you interested in him?

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/02/2025 03:25

Ah insta load of crap 😆

Belshels · 07/02/2025 03:23

Mute his post and stories, then you won't notice him, also he won't see you listed viewing his stories ( if he bothers to look at viewers).

MrsJHernandez · 07/02/2025 03:01

Do nothing. He doesn't have to follow you back.

What made you perceive that he was "off" with you today?

CallMeFlo · 07/02/2025 02:31

Ffs what are you 12??

So he didn't follow you back. Big deal. Its stranger the fact you actually noticed this.

To block him would be absolutely ridiculous behaviour.

ZaraSkyTraveler · 07/02/2025 02:25

Utterly bizarre to follow colleagues on SM. Even more odd to get upset by them not following you back. Just leave it. Don’t block him or unfollow you’ll just look mad and overly invested.

cam I ask if you’re very young?

JazzHandsYeah · 07/02/2025 02:12

Honestly, you’re over thinking it. Probably better not to have colleagues on social media.

BobbyDazzler11 · 07/02/2025 02:03

your unreasonable to be upset yes, he just doesn't want to follow you back and doesn't have to I'm afraid

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 07/02/2025 01:59

How close are you at work ?

incandescentglow · 07/02/2025 01:57

BottomWibblyWob · 07/02/2025 01:03

How do you know he’s added to his stories OP?

cause she followed him... he's probably not on private
