To wonder what would happen if LL were ever released?

I'm not intending to state whether I think she is innocent or guilty but I am just curious as to how her life would look if she were released.
Even if her conviction was overturned, it's highly unlikely she'd be able to go back to a regular life, or would she? Would she walk away with no convictions?

I don't think the other nurses (who worked with her closely) did suspect anything did they?

Also someone said that the consultants only did two ward rounds a week which seems absolutely mad with such fragile and sick infants (no wonder they kept being surprised that allegedly stable infants died). But can I ask for a source for this as I don't remember hearing it at the press conference or elsewhere?

It was talked about in the trial. The guardian mentions it here https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/oct/24/lucy-letby-inquiry-character-missed-opportunities-staff-shortages

What we’ve learned so far from the Lucy Letby inquiry: ‘cold’ character, missed opportunities and staff shortages

She was scape goated by the consultants who fought to report her. The consultants were the ones responsible for the medical care and for botching procedures on the infants, not prescribing the correct medicines etc. They were the ones whose reputations stood to suffer as the unit was being investigated for its excess deaths.

If you listen to the worldwide experts at their press conference it sounds like they made a lot of mistakes.

Right ok, I thought the previous poster was saying it was the hospital management who were trying to scapegoat her.

The entire "justice system" would collapse overnight.

It wouldn't just be the greatest miscarriage of justice in British history, it would utterly destroy the reputation of the CPS, the police and the jury system.

Lucy Letby would most likely be given anonymity and possibly her parents too.

She wouldn't be entitled to any compensation as the appeal would be seen as the "system" working as it should, therefore no negligence on the part of the courts or prison system. There is precedent for this with numerous cases.

The fallout if her conviction were to be quashed would fundamentally change how the Criminal Justice System works.

I don’t think you’re premise is right. For me the system did partly work, they was evidence to suggest she may have been responsible however the main issue is her defence team didn’t challenge this evidence.
If I were on a jury and was given all that circumstantial evidence, along with an “expert” presenting it and the defence team produce nothing to challenge it, then I’d assume they couldn’t challenge it and most likely think she was guilty.

When people say she was scapegoated due to the terrible conditions at the hospital, iirc all the bosses bent over backwards to support her. It was the other nurses and Drs who complained about her and one Dr was actually told to apologies to her for accusing her.
if the bosses wanted to scapegoat her, surely they would have been very happy to accuse her.

@SabandBraddy I do remember that yes, thanks for the response.

I think if she is ever released (and on balance I think she should and will be) she will never have anything resembling a normal life. She will effectively live under permanent and repeated Osman warnings and have to watch her back for life. It's very sad and I feel for her. In reality, she will almost certainly have to be given a new identity and likely live abroad.

The Thirlwall enquiry will need to be switched to be an investigation into how the woefully substandard and neglectful care was allowed to continue in that hospital for as long as it did and why an apparently innocent nurse was allowed to be scapegoated in a witch-hunt.

Unfortunately there will always be people who believe she is guilty so she will never be able to live a threat free life.

Can I ask a question? Obviously not revealing specific details but is she just treated like a local and are people friendly to her?

Do you remember when you were a kid and you had the local perv who everyone know was a perv and just sort of avoided/didn’t talk to? It’s a bit like that

She must be working because she’s at the same bus stop same time everyday. Nobody is throwing bricks or getting pitch forks out no

This isn't a documentary on Netflix, a whodunnit for conspiracy theorists to be armchair detectives.

She will stay convicted as a witness caught her trying to kill one of the babies. Some evidence may be up for scientific debate but not all of it.

No they didn’t. Or is so this wasn’t mentioned in court which seems very, very odd.

one of the doctors who some time after the incident stated he walked into a room where an alarm was going off and she wasn’t doing anything. That is not “killing a baby”. He even said in court that it’s not unusual for nurses/doctors to adopt an initial wait and see approach at those times. As a midwife who has briefly worked in a NICU I’ve done that. If he really thought he’d walked into on her killing a baby then he’d have said something at the time and never did.

I think Maxinr Carr should be left alone now. She acted in a very foolish manner but apparently had no idea that Ian Huntley was responsible for the murders, she's done her time and should be able to get on with her life.

This is how I feel. I completely do not condone what she did at all but I feel there's a disproportionate amount of hate towards her versus Huntley. I suppose it's easier to hate her as she's free but she didn't commit the murders. She was stupidly naive and trusting.

JMSA · 07/02/2025 04:35

This. Karen Matthew’s is moved a few times a year. They’d have to move her out of the UK for her to have any semblance of a “normal” life

Tsk. I dread to think how much that costs. Some people in our society are truly pointless.

I didn't say that it never happens. My point was for it to be a miscarriage of justice she would have to be the unluckiest nurse in the world to be around so many deaths yet be innocent. NICU staff don't just leave stable babies to go on their break and return 5 mins later for them to have catastrophically collapsed with none other than LL stood over them-this is no coincidence, open your eyes.

But it’s a NICU - for premature and very unwell babies. Allegedly a struggling one with systemic issues. Of course, and incredibly sadly, there were deaths. But you’re talking about statistics and again, I doubt you, and definitely not I, is qualified to do so. Apparently not LL’s prosecution either, based on the Royal Statistical Society.

@hazelnutvanillalatte I followed the 10 month trial, I'd hardly call that covering my ears. People watch one documentary or press conference and they're experts 😆The hospital seems to have done perfectly fine since they got rid of (as you so accurately put) the witch. Bit of a coincidence that. I can't believe on a forum full of mothers so many would be happy to have her out and probably even looking after babies again!

Grow up.

Ohshutupcolinyoutwat · 07/02/2025 04:25

Cheesandcrackers · 06/02/2025 20:59

Even is LL is not totally guilty I doubt she can be proven totally innocent. However she won't lack book deals and Netflix offers so she'll be fine. And some dumbass guy will end up with her so she'll be fine there too.

Dumbass guy? Does she not deserve a bright future if she is found not guilty, to have a 'normal' life like she was living? Jeez you can see why she would need a new id if acquitted.

PrincessOfPreschool · 07/02/2025 03:28

I don't think the psychological impact on her could ever be undone if she's innocent. She wasn't the most stable person in the first place but after being in prison for 'murdering babies', who knows what she's been through?

I think if she was innocent and was released, she'd probably kill herself. It would be impossible to live with the hatred of so many people and the constant threat of someone searching for you and hurting or killing you. You would have to be a very tough cookie to deal with that.

CerealPosterHere · 07/02/2025 03:25

If she is acquitted and gets out it’ll be interesting to see what if anything happens to Dewi Evans. I guess you can’t be prosecuted for being wrong/a shit expert witness. I feel he should be though. Because he seems to have just made stuff up with no foundation.

CerealPosterHere · 07/02/2025 03:23

Firefly1987 · 07/02/2025 00:04

She's a woman so she must be innocent by default 🙄I'm sure just as many posters would be defending a man who was accused of such heinous crimes, and scribbling insane ramblings about how he did it all on purpose because he was so inadequate, not.

She never wrote that she did it on purpose.

The idea of her ever getting out is only in the fantasies of a few loser men and gullible women, thank god.

Did you watch the press conference? The author of the study used by the prosecution refuted their entire case and said the hospital should have been shut down due to negligence and malpractice. Thank God some people employ critical thinking, rather than covering their ears and shouting 'burn the witch.'

hazelnutvanillalatte · 07/02/2025 02:48

Worldinyourhands · 06/02/2025 23:21

That doesn't explain her calm and arrogant demeanour in her very first police interviews.

It's likely that instead of screaming and crying, you would want to cooperate and give as much information as possible to give you the best chance of exoneration.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 07/02/2025 02:45

user243245346 · 06/02/2025 19:44

I think she would need a new identity. The more I read about it, the more it looks like a cover up. If it was she would get compensation.

Sadly I'm not sure if she could recover- it reminds me of the case of Sally Clark.

That was such an awful case. And no reason for it, unlike this, where the reason would be a cover-up. Multiple members of the prosecution invented statistics and withheld important information to wrongly sentence a grieving mother to life imprisonment. How could anyone knowingly do that, let alone multiple people?

poorbuthappy1 · 07/02/2025 02:02

@FanofLeaves Woodward is from a village and the majority of us didn't believe she was innocent. That was just the local pub goers who barely knew the girl

That’s interesting to know!
