To wonder what would happen if LL were ever released?

I'm not intending to state whether I think she is innocent or guilty but I am just curious as to how her life would look if she were released.
Even if her conviction was overturned, it's highly unlikely she'd be able to go back to a regular life, or would she? Would she walk away with no convictions?

I feel like if I was innocent, I'd have been much more vocal/ desperate during the trial. Surely you'd be screaming and crying that you didn't do it, knowing that whole life in prison was the punishment??

And how are they going to prove that?

oh I don't know - maybe if 14 of the very top neonatal specialists in the entire world, from different continents, all got together (for free) and independently reviewed all of the medical files of the babies and concluded that every one of them died of natural causes or poor medical care from the doctors.....

All prompted by Dr Lee, who was so annoyed that his work on embolisms in babies had been misinterpreted by the prosecution and used to convict her that he decided to look at all of the cases.....

Alltheprettyseahorses · 06/02/2025 23:01

Hopefully the fair conviction isn't overturned. And if it ever is, hopefully Letby is never able to go anywhere near another baby.

Even is LL is not totally guilty I doubt she can be proven totally innocent. However she won't lack book deals and Netflix offers so she'll be fine. And some dumbass guy will end up with her so she'll be fine there too.

If there was no murder how can she be guilty of anything?

FanofLeaves · 06/02/2025 22:58

Catpuss66 · 06/02/2025 22:54

If it is proven there was no murder, that those babies died because of poor practice in those that accused her, how can she be guilty?

And how are they going to prove that?

FanofLeaves · 06/02/2025 22:57

She shouldn't have to prove her innocence. The prosecution should be able to prove her guilt. The issue is that many people believe that they didn't.

To all intents and purposes, at the time of the year-long trial, they did, and the jury obviously thought so too. Hence the fact that she’s currently serving 15 life sentences.

Catpuss66 · 06/02/2025 22:54

FanofLeaves · 06/02/2025 19:54

Yes she definitely was, although not of murder.

LL might well be guilty- she has been found so by a jury after an incredibly long trial. The conviction being overturned (I doubt this would happen) will not be proof of innocence.

If it is proven there was no murder, that those babies died because of poor practice in those that accused her, how can she be guilty?

Just remembered Amanda Knox who seems to be safe living as herself and even being papped and featuring on tv documentaries . 🤔

The states has something of a different attitude towards these things, plus what Knox was accused of happened in a different country, and the victim was an adult rather than a baby or young child.

Also the vast majority of the public in the US believe Knox to be totally innocent and wronged and the rest don't care either way.

They’ll never do that thank god there’s nothing to prove her innocence 100%. It would be massively insulting and triggering to the parents of the babies who were killed or suffered. She’s not a saint or a martyr, innocent or guilty.

I don't think she will be released but if she does then it'll be a hard life.

Wasn't it the case that babies in multiple hospital she worked in have passed away? It's too much of a coincidence.

It's such a complex case because deep in my heart I know that she is guilty but there is reasonable doubt that the evidence may point in a different direction.

Please don't ever be a juror. Find any excuse

SilentLetterDay · 06/02/2025 22:37

I was once accused of doing something horrible. I didn't do it. Still lost half my family, my neighbours and a lot of friends. I was lucky that I had proof I didn't do it but it made no difference to the people in my life who already made their minds up. My life changed massively and it wasn't something even remotely close to murder/abuse that I was accused of. Not seen or spoken to that side of the family for over a decade now.

People I didn't even know stopped me in the street, people in supermarkets would talk about it and give me horrible looks etc, I moved away in the end..

It's not the same for everyone but I found once you get a name it never really goes away.

If she is innocent then I feel for her.

The Birmingham six and other victims of miscarriages of justice did not have to hide away. They were vindicated and the so called evidence was hokum. Lucy Letby should be the same, if pronounced innocent.

They also had to pay back living costs for prison from their compensation. It was an outrage.

I wish I thought this would be the case. Even victims are hounded. Remember this case:

DarkDarkNight · 06/02/2025 22:29

I think people would refuse to believe she was innocent, they would think she’d gotten away with it.

I would not like to have been on that jury or that of any retrial that’s for sure. It’s a very complex case.

itsjustbiology · 06/02/2025 22:25

My worry with LL is that even if she was found innocent would people genuinely accept that? She would never be safe here I guess. I can't square the circle on this case. If she went on a huge media thing to gather support etc people would only say she was miking the system for £££s and what about the poor parents etc so many questions. It is a melon scratcher indeed and I feel she cannot win either way

ArmySurplusHamster · 06/02/2025 22:14

Babies die in hospitals every day so it would be bloody odd, rather than ‘too much of a coincidence, if there were no instances of babies dying on earlier wards Letby worked on, @TY78910.

Cerial · 06/02/2025 22:13

She & her parents would demand her be reinstated with back pay & pension contributions, with missed promotions awarded and damages. She would marry Dr Lee and not have children because he would secretly have a vasectomy because he is so afraid of her.

Mangoesintoapub · 06/02/2025 22:12

I think she'll be released with a year with a new identity and compensation. Her life is ruined either way.

Luddite26 · 06/02/2025 22:11

JohnofWessex · 06/02/2025 21:46

The issue though is 'who was negligent'

Some poor sap may well end up as the fall guy as it went wrong on their watch BUT those over them knew what was happening and took no action.

Think Herald of Free Enterprise

The people who seemed it safe to run wards on the lowest amount of staff possible to start with.

If she is innocent and I now believe she may well be, she should be compensated.
There are some extremely arrogant doctors who wouldn't think twice of using a nurse as a fall guy. I seriously hope they get to the bottom of it all one way or another.

LizzieSiddal · 06/02/2025 21:53

If she is innocent then I sincerely hope she is left to get on with her life in absolute peace and quiet.
