Every day waking up to yet another insane declaration from Trump. America is losing the respect of the world

It's like a parallel universe - how did America come to this? So now he plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza we are told - to create the 'Riviera of the Middle East.' A golf course and hotels probably. The £2 million people can just go wherever. Wtf! AIBU to think America is imploding in on itself?

As Trump said, he could shoot someone dead on 5th Avenue and it would make no difference to his cult members. They are thoroughly brainwashed, levels of paranoia topped up hourly by the fellow loons on the billionaire-owned 'social media' and the only thing they'll take any notice of is a change in their personal circumstances. Like being sacked by Elon. But that will probably be the fault of evil Europe. America is a lost cause. It's told the rest of the world, apart from Putin and Korea Kim - commie dictators both - to embrace their new thinking. Its absolutely insane, all of it and Putin is laughing.

I watched this interesting Times Radio youtube video today....it is an interview with David Cay Johnston a Pullitzer prize winning journalist. He has 37 year knowledge of trump. He is fairly scathing about him and his business acumen. Sadly it seems beyond the maga set to watch it, acknowledge it or indeed believe it.

With trump appearing keen to align America with Russia Peter, Zeihan has an interesting take on what's happening in Russia
https://mailchi.mp/zeihan/the-russian-depopulation
Russian birth and death rates have fluctuated quite a bit due to major events. The most notable was the demographic "death cross" in the 1990s where deaths outnumbered births; this sent the Russians down a dark path of population decline. Despite some brief recoveries throughout the past few decades, new data out of Russia has confirmed things have worsened.
That recent Russian data is likely overly optimistic, so things are bad. Combine that bleak demographic outlook with no improvements to infrastructure, education, or public health, and you can do the math. Of course, the Ukraine War has accelerated this crisis, as the Russians have sent wave after wave into the meat grinder. That current strategy is unsustainable, but a victory in Ukraine could at least put a little bit of air into the Russians' lungs. A loss or stagnation would suck even more air out.
Either way, Russia is quickly hacking away at its final opportunity at demographic recovery, which brings long-term viability as a functional state into question.

Lunacy. International shipping needs reliable and consistent information, there's a lot of traffic out there. Are liners and boats going to see tragedies similar to the recent US air disasters because Bigly's ego has been indulged and confused all the navigation.FFS.

HappyNewFeckingYear · 16/02/2025 22:04

Hmm Hmm maybe I was using a VPN Grin

HappyNewFeckingYear · 16/02/2025 21:55

No @Porcuporpoise in UK. We checked last week when DS said it had changed and he was right, I just screen grabbed a pic from CN.
Now it has changed again, kick back I guess. As Mexico says, there are rules to be followed by everyone including US.

Porcuporpoise · 16/02/2025 21:54

This is what I see

Are you in America @HappyNewYear ? Its Gulf of America on google for people in the US.

HappyNewFeckingYear · 16/02/2025 21:45

Porcuporpoise · 16/02/2025 21:34

Just as well as it's not quite true. On Google maps the Gulf of Mexico is still the Gulf of Mexico, with Gulf of America in brackets to appease the orange peril.

I think the Mexican president pointed out there are rules governing how international waters are named (or at least that there is a process that needs to be followed for renaming them).

Interesting. Five days ago it was the Gulf of America on Google.

I've just seen that the Gulf of Mexico has been renamed to Gulf of America on Google and Apple maps!

Can't quite believe it!

Yep they bent the knee for the orange one. 🍊 has terrorised all social media to do as he wishes or else....sounds like a real democratic, free thinking, free speech kinda place, doesn't it? 🤔

Heard this evening alot of Canadians cancelling their holidays to USA. I certainly wont be travelling to it while musk, his puppet the orange one, or vance are in any way in charge.

We’re now limiting our trips south of the border to seeing DSil (has retained her Canadian citizenship) in Aspen in CO - which is very international and to friends just over the border in Burlington, VT.
As much as we enjoy our holidays to other parts of the US, there is nothing we don’t have here in Canada.

Just saw a video of a punch up at ice hockey and brawl

Looked bad but also they were just left to battering each other, no one stepped in. Bizarre

All those involved ended up in their respective penalty boxes. There is a possibility the two teams will play each other again on Thursday but this time in Boston.

We were at the 4Nations match between US and Canada last night (we won’t talk about the score!). Although I don’t agree with booing another country’s national anthem, the stadium was electric with the booing of the American national anthem (we were booing Trump and not Americans in general) and then the singing of O Canada 🇨🇦 the Americans hate that it is sung in French in Montreal. If nothing else Canadian is becoming more patriotic especially as it was Flag Day yesterday as well.

Loveumagenta · 16/02/2025 17:52

The idea that EVERYTHING isn’t some kind of competition to be won all the time and with the winner usually have ALL the money and power… they just can’t get their heads around that. That it might okay to recognise that there are strengths and weaknesses in every nation, and fuck me sideways if money doesn’t actually mean you’re the ‘winner’.

Loveumagenta · 16/02/2025 17:48

An American colleague once asked me if I didn’t think the USA was the greatest country in the world then WHICH country did I think was??
Then was jaw droppingly shocked to discover that I didn’t rhink any country was, not even my own. In fact none of us Europeans around that dinner table did.
Mind blown. And this was a man in his 40s in a senior role at a big company, albeit one who’d never been anywhere that required a passport … so conversation ended with him going ‘Well MUST be the US then,
hahahaha.’
moron.

Okay. I'll bite.

Enough with the orange insults

Enough with the exaggerations, like claiming he's going to build a golf course that covers half the world or some such ridiculousness.

Enough with the catastrophising.

The majority on this thread, and others like it, don't seem to realise their own extreme rhetoric has pushed an awful lot of Americans to vote for him.

Screaming, crying, shouting, throwing insults and making stuff up are not going to convince many to vote for those aligned with your viewpoint.

Mumsnet made you do it? Oh please! If you’re old enough to vote, you’re old enough to take responsibility for your own choices. My sympathy is reserved for the Americans who voted for Harris, or for any of the lesser-known candidates who aren’t on the far right.

EasternStandard · 16/02/2025 16:15

@AllFurCoatAndFrillyKnickers I don't think it's a could it's an is and will

But that's slightly different to posts suggesting voters regret it as below. I think those who voted for this outcome there are pretty happy with getting on with the mandate

Loveumagenta · 16/02/2025 15:26

EasternStandard · 16/02/2025 13:36

An awful lots of Americans are beginning to understand what a huge mistake they made voting for Trump. A wake up call!

I don't think that's reflected in polling. He's pretty much doing what voters gave mandate to do

Christ, I wish they would but half are too thick and the other half wouldn’t admit they’d made a mistake in a million years because they’re WINNERS! USA USA!

Serpentstooth · 16/02/2025 14:55

His days are numbered if he's sacked Homer Simpson.

Mn is like the reverse. The more US voters get the mandate they wanted the more threads and angry posts on here

Because what Trump is doing doesn't just affect the US. There could be ramifications for many other countries.

Word is that they're struggling to get back the nuclear workers that they fired.

Yep. Fucking idiots.
