Every day waking up to yet another insane declaration from Trump. America is losing the respect of the world

It's like a parallel universe - how did America come to this? So now he plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza we are told - to create the 'Riviera of the Middle East.' A golf course and hotels probably. The £2 million people can just go wherever. Wtf! AIBU to think America is imploding in on itself?

@PollyPaintsFlowers Bassam Eid clearly does not consider the reality of being an unwelcome refugee, separated from home, family and friends, unable to visit the graves of loved ones, displaced from community, unable to use one's current qualifications and forced to take less qualified work.
Countries willing to invest in and assist Gaza can do so conditional upon regime change, or upon peace. Over time, if Gaza is not under siege and bombed and if the West Bank is cleared of occupation and not attacked, more moderate politics will emerge.

Sorry, this post by Bassem Eid. The photo didn't post so I'll C&P

When I asked my Palestinian brothers and sisters in Gaza what their top priorities were before the war, their answers were clear: a job to support their families, access to quality education, and reliable healthcare. Now, many are left jobless, homeless, and desperate for a future that seems impossible. With Gaza in ruins and Hamas holding its grip on the people, the situation is dire.

President Trump's proposal to allow Palestinians to leave Gaza offers a lifeline. It provides the opportunity to escape the suffocating control of Hamas and to find a place where they can rebuild their lives — where their children can have access to education, where they can work with dignity, and where their families can be safe and healthy. It’s not just a chance for relocation, but a real opportunity for liberation from terror, for a future they deserve.

This isn’t about abandoning Gaza; it's about giving its people a way out of oppression. The hope is that one day they can return to a Gaza that is free from Hamas, where peace and prosperity can truly take root.

Trump needs to take them into America then as neighbouring countries are refusing (and quite rightly as they have their own issues).

The Israeli army is apparently making plans for the 'voluntary' departure of people from Gaza. It seems they are to be displaced into Egypt. I think I remember some time ago that an Egyptian politician said if that happens, they would just send them on to Europe. So, when the boat loads of these poor people arrive in Italy, Spain, France and eventually in the UK I do hope the supporters of this plan will welcome them with open arms. The other plan, mooted by some Israeli official, is that Ireland, Spain and Norway should take them, since they recognised Palestine as a state. How does that make any sense? The people of Gaza could rebuild very quickly, with aid and support from the international community. They are one of the most highly educated populations in the world. Other countries, supportive of a two state solution, should be there now, assisting with rebuilding, keeping peace and helping to amplify more moderate voices in the area, to help things move forward.

Why would anyone invest in rebuilding Gaza while Hamas are still in power and have promised more wars?

For those of you who have responded to my post:
@TankFlyBossW4lk @Locutus2000 and others, apologies if I've not namechecked you:

I'm not 'trying to be clever', I'm just passing on a genuine US point of view which is not as often seen on MN.

I comprehend that that is utterly GUTTING for the educated masses on MN but ...
most Americans REALLY do not think about the rest of the planet. They REALLY don't think beyond the end of their driveway. They REALLY vote with their next week's pay check and utility bill in mind.

As such, US citizens are not at all considering how US policy will affect the rest of the planet. They do not see themselves as 'unleashing hell' on the rest of the planet. Surprising to MN, most US citizens are much too modest for that. They do not see themeslves as voting for what is, effectively, a planet-wide policy. They have no idea what their votes will wreak on the rest of the planet. They area really just thinking about their retirement plans and their grandchildren and their heating bill. If you said to them that their votes affect people across the planet in countries they've never heard of they'd be genuinely gobsmacked.

US citizens who care about the planet and its countries know that US policies have a huge impact but they are in the minority and although they vote as UK MNs might want, they cannot make much progress with their votes.I, personally, do comprehend that US policy affects the rest of the planet. Although just one vote, I made the effort to secure an overseas ballot and voted as loudly as one vote could for Kamala.

Consider though that at the lunch table, no one rounds on the UK citizen and demands to know how they voted or why. No one asks, Sophie in packing why she voted for Brexit because the WHOLE WORLD IS SUFFERING.
Likewise, who is demanding to know which Israeli or Palestinian ex-pats voted for Netanyahu or the Hamas candidate? That would be a bit rude, woudn't it ...

As a US citizen abroad, I often find it impossible to balance the expectations: either the US is a 'bully' imposing their policy or they are too slow to wade in and resolve a (minor) conflict with a unilateral (pro-American stance, go figure) solution. No matter the president, who is usually a pawn of his/her party, US policy is considered to be wrong and I have been given long-winded chaper and verse about policies I didn't vote for and don't support and can't change but it was still my fault...)

Which shows incredible double standards given how recent the majority of those entered Palestine and their reasoning for doing so.

It was Emily Maitliss so either The News Agents or The News Agents USA.
Quite like Kathy K and the Mooch on The Rest is Politics US podcast too, the Mooch really knows the orange turd and his little precious ego.

Another vote for The Rest is Politics US! I’d also recommend Americast (BBC Sounds) and Pod Save America.

tarheelbaby · 05/02/2025 21:29

That whole 'most powerful man on the planet' thing is just a line in newspapers to make you panic.

And the same way that life still goes on no matter the politics, that's true for the vast (and it is vast) majority of Americans.

I STILL can't believe how much MN worries about the Americans. I guess, like Razorlight, they can't sleep.

If Brits put half or even a quarter as much effort into their own country as they do worrying about the US, things in the UK could be very different.

After the crazy Brits voted for Brexit, it was a nightmare. Every morning I woke up to a new announcement of doom. Maybe the Brits on this site remember those intense days.

I guarantee that, compared to the average Brit, the average American has no idea what is happening in the UK and doesn't care! If I go to a meeting, there's guaranteed to be a pot-shot at the Americans but I'm sure that if I moved to the US, there'd be no mention of UK politics.

So, stop wasting your time thinking about the US. Take steps to improve your life. As Arthur Ashe said, 'Start where you are and use what you have.' [oh, whoops, he's an American ...]

You know, this is really sad. US politics impacts on Europe significantly. It's not clever to be ignorant. This is part of the problem with our society. Oh and I wouldn't model the "average US citizen" on anything I aspire to, for myself and my society. They've unleashed this hell on the Western world afterall.

Ugh, such sanctimony. The world would be a better place without Trump in it, that's simply a fact.

I'd add Musk, Bezos, Farage, Netanyahu and the Tate bros to that list too, fwiw.

This has been mooted before. IIRC the Israeli army refused to to transport and dump Palestinian people into the desert.

Good on them.

Netenyahu does not speak for Israelis. Nor does he represent them. He certainly doesn't give a shit about them.

He's a self serving cunt!

It really wasn't. You might be ignoring the facts, but Hamas were intercepting aid arriving forvthe Palestinians and taking what they needed to store in their bunkers under the Palestinian schools and hospitals......

He didn't make America great again last time and I very much doubt he will do it this time. Hopefully a terminal diagnosis or fatal accident will take him out soon.

For those wondering what prompted the orange twat to make his Gaza pronouncement, it's not the hotels on the Riviera - no, it's this;

What that isn't a luxury hotel?

So musk wants to normalize planes crashing out of the sky!!?
Good luck with that.

Well no, not exactly. Musk will argue that human pilots are unreliable and an automatically flying plane/helicopter would be much safer.

Another word for these things is a drone. I can see the Apocalytic hellscape coming together...
