Went to Mcdonalds drive through as a treat, my DD wanted to pay, so handed the 5 pound note from the back seat. The man working on the drive through thought it was funny and said ''it's a good job I'm slim'' I have no idea what being slim had to do with it, he could reach but not because he was slim.. feel it was a dig at me

Dont be so silly, he made a cheerful remark to make clear he didn’t mind having to reach.

Paul2023 · 04/02/2025 23:07

Welcome to the work place of 2025. The man made a comment ( joking) and it’s been misconstrued.
He wasn’t even aiming it you!

Welcome to a world where everyone is offended! Bloody hell. I doubt the man even gave you a second glance.

Don't be daft OP. As someone above said, a large amount of their customers will be fat. He made a joke which tapped into your own feelings.

Where is your proof to back this up? Nonsense, judgemental, joke of a comment.

Did you actually know that sugar free and fat reduced etc food actually makes people fatter

OpenFox · 04/02/2025 21:15

Huh?! If you think that was fat shaming then you're clearly a bit paranoid about your weight!

If someone is passing money from the back you'd have to reach forward more which I imagine would have been hard if they'd been fat. The comment was nothing to do with you whatsoever.

This!
I don't read that as referring to you at all, he was talking about himself and being able to reach forward through a hatch to the back seat.

MyFlightWasAwfulThanksForAsking · 04/02/2025 21:20

If you are sensitive about not being slim, maybe stop going to McDonald's...

This is the kind of nasty comments that make people insecure, hate themselves, and become paranoid. Who the hell are you? What gives you the right to judge or make these comments.
The op may have other reasons for her not being happy with her weight. So bloody what if she wanted to eat McDonalds& she said it was her daughter.

It's really hard to not see everything through our eyes, Instead of seeing clean slate and or actual simple, scene .

Instead we are seeing it ,the way we feel, things we are not happy with , scared of, past experiences etc. It's like a projector of our deepest emotions.

And you know what if it's possible try to switch off from this. Throw it away, shrug even lol it off. It's your life and effects no one but you, and tbh no one cares(I don't mean this in horrid way, but fact strangers that meet you don't care, they take you for what you are now& accept that, they know no different)

You are all that matters(well apart from your loved ones). You know when and if you can, want you will try or will get yourself to look way you want.. We only have 1 life. Best we can do is love ourselves, care and be kindXx♥️

Kedece2410 · 04/02/2025 22:56

Jeez people really do seem to look for things to be offended about these days

Cakeandusername · 04/02/2025 22:54

Absolutely nothing to do with you. Man making a little quip - he had to lean outbof booth and reach for money. It’s a tight space. Please don’t tell me you complained - my dc used to come home from McDonalds with tales if customers..the one with the parrot was my favourite.

Frostywinterwoods · 04/02/2025 22:53

Oh so do you mean he over exaggerated reaching over to get the money when he didn't have to?
I can see then why you thought this, especially as I feel from your comment that you aren't happy with way you are right now!

Maybe though, he was exaggerating as a joke to make your daughter lol? Entertaining?

Or because he felt put out for what ever reason.

Try not to think on it or worry x

Movinghouseatlast · 04/02/2025 22:53

Christ. Of course you weren't bloody 'body shamed'. If you are only a stone overweight you won't even look anything other than a normal weight.

zeibesaffron · 04/02/2025 22:53

Its ridiculousness like this that stops people having conversations with customers! This really is not about you!!

HiEarthlings · 04/02/2025 22:51

I'm overweight (due to illness), and very self-conscious about it but even I wouldn't have thought this was a fat shaming comment! No, you're being wildly over sensitive!

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 04/02/2025 22:49

FrauPaige · 04/02/2025 22:37

This is correct - we have to address the normalisation of comfort/emotional eating which affects women far more than men and contributes to the rise in diabetes, obesity, heart disease, etc.

But this is borderline irrelevant for this thread, no?

Maybe, I was responding to someone (who was responding to someone else), I didn't start the tangent.

A few people have raised it though, I think they've picked up on the irony of the OP having these hangups about her own weight while putting her DD on the same path.

WonderingWanda · 04/02/2025 22:40

Op you are being way beyond over sensitive here. He was just making light of the fact he would need to lean over. In fact what he probably should've said to be more accurate is "Good job I've got long arms" if he's said that would you be feeling angst that he shamed your arm length.

Also you might feel you are a stone over the weight you want to be but in reality that doesn't really put you in the fat bracket (unless the weight you want to be is 20 stone) I'm a stone over weight and I don't think anyone else even views me that way. I know I'm not fat compared to many people but I just feel fat for me. I doubt you are even fat and you are just feeling very sensitive about it.

It's morning here and this has 1) made me snort coffee and 2) brightened my day. Thank you.

Badbacklife · 04/02/2025 22:38

It’s not about you, he’s making a joke about stretching out of the small drive through windows

FrauPaige · 04/02/2025 22:37

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 04/02/2025 22:12

One meal won't do any harm, no.

But the deprivation/reward thinking behind it does. Conditioning kids to think that a tough day/a good day/being sad/celebrating = I should comfort and/or treat myself with fatty or sugary processed food? That's a huge factor in obesity and ill health.

I fear for anyone in the service industry trying to interact or humour without it being over analysed and claiming is discriminatory.

WilmaTitsDrop · 04/02/2025 22:31

I don't understand how he could see from leaning out of his little window and looking at you sat in your car, that you're a stone overweight?

Unless you were draped across the bonnet eyeing up his McNuggets?

ManchesterPie · 04/02/2025 22:29

Wow. The world doesn't revolve around you. It was a comment he made about himself and had NOTHING to do with you.

WilmaTitsDrop · 04/02/2025 22:25

Serenandnova · 04/02/2025 21:53

Omg, I doubt it but if Macdonald's is seen as a treat you're not exactly teaching your child about good food, it's an emergency not a treat

You're trying to project your unhealthy relationship with food onto the OP.

Not good.

brunettemic · 04/02/2025 22:24

Some people really go out of their way to be offended don’t they OP…?

Eenameenadeeka · 04/02/2025 22:22

I'm sure it wasn't anything to do with your size.

Melancholyflower · 04/02/2025 22:22

Did he say good job I'm slim, whilst looking pointedly at you, or add on 'unlike your mum'?
If neither of these things happened, then no.

JudgeBread · 04/02/2025 22:21

Mate have you ever actually worked in a fast food place before? You were one of 300 vaguely human shaped blurs he saw that day.

You're only the main character in your own story, literally no one else gives this much of a fuck about you, especially not the minimum wage guy selling you your happy meal. Chill.
