Said husband.. said friend..

I feel levels of disgust each time I read this. Simply writing 'my friend/ husband' would leave the reader in no confusion..

My cat has now become 'the aforementioned feline'

It smacks of people who achieved at best a grade C at GCSE English, now attempting to come across as literate and well read.

@KettleOnCredit I’m just pointing out the irony. I do think, if you’re going to look down your nose at those with a grade C in GCSE English, that you should at least get your basic grammar correct.

I reckon you’re pissed.

This really upset you. I'm sorry! There's nothing wrong with a grade C and you probably did very well to get it x

Speaking a professional editor, you couldn’t pay me to get this worked up about grammar on an Internet forum.

I admire your professionalism Biscuit

That doesn't bother me, but I will admit that I get irrationally annoyed at people who are constantly "fast forwarding" in their posts. You're not a DVD player; you can just say what happened next. If there was a time lapse you could always say, "6 months later."

flowertoday · 04/02/2025 02:16

Don't sweat the small stuff. Life is fleeting at best . Mumsnet is the only place I read accounts of people seeming genuinely concerned about other people's use of grammar.

Meecrowahvey · 04/02/2025 02:14

It's not as bad as 'myself and DH'.

It's annoying and not needed either.
I do love how the poster who remarked on my lack of a full stop had to edit their own short post.
AIBU??
Honestly it's really annoys me EVERY time I read this.. 'said daughter, said husband, said dog..'
I can't be the only one. This isn't Netmums.. maybe standards have dropped..

Or you need to find something important to actually give a shit about.

Seriously.

Are you ok?

What did you get in GSCE English, babes? You’re clearly dying to share.

General14 · 04/02/2025 01:47

For I can ensure all these things for the power of the one who giveth me strength....said thy husbandry....😂

Shit sorry, thought I had managed to keep thy...I mean my...grade C English under lid until now

JollyGreenSleeves · 04/02/2025 01:42

@KettleOnCredit You keep forgetting to put full stops at the end of sentences.

Shubbypubby · 04/02/2025 01:39

🤣🤣 What a bizarre goady thread. It's just a standard turn of phrase, I don't think you can infer anything so extreme from its use.

Well it clearly bothers you, enough to reply at 1am.
You must be one of those people that imagine they are in some way eloquent when they do this. Sorry to upset you
