To be annoyed with DP for being sick on the floor?

On the way home tonight my DP said he was feeling a bit sick. I sorted dinner for our DC then took them upstairs to do bedtime while he lay on the sofa. I have no problem with doing this when he is feeling ill. Just finishing bath time and I hear him retching downstairs. He’s being sick on the dining room floor. Thankfully it’s a hard floor, but I can’t believe he didn’t make it another couple of metres to a sink or toilet. He continued to be sick on the floor while I was shouting down the stairs to him to get to the downstairs bathroom. Now it’s all gone quiet downstairs so I’m guessing he is back on the sofa and there is still sick on the floor. There is no way I am cleaning this up. Am I being unsympathetic? Or AIBU to be annoyed at him for being sick on the floor?

Sounds like there are more problems in this relationship than your partner NOT being sick on the floor OP! There is clearly some quite severe resentment going on with you, are you actually happy in this relationship?

Legoninjago1 · 03/02/2025 21:28

Oh I don't know - I managed to vomit about 6 inches away from the loo once all over the bathroom floor. Just couldn't take another step! Poor guy. Rub his back!

adviceneeded1990 · 03/02/2025 21:27

I think the only way I’d react like you would be if the person concerned was exceptionally drunk! And even then I’d check they weren’t choking etc. Is the relationship generally good? I’d be feeling quite hurt and angry if I was your partner right now.

I know a couple who lost their 19 year old son who choked on his own vomit.

A few weeks ago my baby granddaughter choked whilst vomiting;I dislodged it but she then lost consciousness in my arms;it was one of the most frightening moments of my life.

I'd rather clean vomit off the floor than deal with a dead teenager or unconscious baby.

Well luckily op isn’t choosing between a dead teenager and an unconscious baby 😅

Just a man with a bit of a sick bug who hasn’t got the sense to move a bit closer to a flushing loo before be pukes!

FeedMeBrunch · 03/02/2025 21:27

It’s actually quite funny that OP thinks her DH chose to puke on the floor out of laziness instead of just going to the bathroom 🤣

LondonLawyer · 03/02/2025 21:26

I had hyperemesis during both my pregnancies, and frequently was very sick without any warning at all, and would never have been sick on the floor / etc if I could help it. On the other hand I always cleaned up every inch myself and refused to let DH anywhere near until I'd done it, because cleaning up someone else's vomit is disgusting.

Did you miss the bit where I said "at least attempt to"?

Then why start your post saying 'this is ridiculous'?

OP is all out of fucks to give. Not only did she not bother to he was ok…she sat upstairs and started a thread while he was throwing up 😂😂😂

Yes, and I bet if it had been the other way around.... OP was sick and her DP shouted at her from upstairs... people would be telling her to LTB.

barstar · 03/02/2025 21:26

@Devon24

Why can’t you clean it up? Assuming you haven’t lost your arms and legs.

I said he would, as in he would be willing, but I would not be happy to let him, as in, I would do it myself. Sorry for not being clear enough.

I should add that if I hadn’t been bathing two small children at the time I would have gone down to see him. Was keen to keep the DC out of the way. Good to hear other people’s perspectives on this though and I will try to be more sympathetic (still not clearing it up though). And yes, he has form for being generally not very helpful and not being particularly supportive when I’ve been unwell.

Your original post suggests otherwise.

God I have had episodes of sickness where I haven't made it to the bathroom or managed to grab a suitable receptacle on time. TBH my DH would clean it up, although I would not be happy to let him. I think you are being harsh and I can't believe the attitude of some posters.

You should add that if you hadn't been posting on Mumsnet, you could have checked how your poorly husband was.

Devon24 · 03/02/2025 21:23

Even my dc have made it to the loo. Most people wait in the bathroom by the loo if they feel very sick.

DO NOT clear it up!!!!!! Jesus.

It's possible to choke to death on vomit if trying to hold it in so if probably give him a break about it. Wouldn't be cleaning it up myself though!!

Sometimes it's too quick, some people really don't know that they're seconds away from vomiting.

Tbh, if he's already been sick on the floor, it's better that it's in one spot rather than him being sick again half a meter away.

Lessthanmore · 03/02/2025 21:19

The state of this thread. You people do make me sick! If you can make it to the loo or sink does t mean every person can.
i didn't realise you have so many gastrointestinal specialists on here, telling us exactly what a person should or shouldn't be able to do.

Well, he must have attempted to make it to a toilet or sink as he was on the sofa in the living room, started a dash and the vomit appeared once he was in the dining room. If he had made no attempt, he would have vomited on the floor by the sofa he was lying on.

This is absolutely mental, aren’t you supposed to care about the person you chose to spend your life with?

user1471453601 · 03/02/2025 21:15

I once vomited on the floor of a taverna in Greece. I was rushing to the bathroom, holding my hands to my mouth, but I just couldn't stop it in time.

I never ever took a doxyclene antibiotic again on an empty stomach.

Luckily for me, the taverna owner knew me, and was much more worried about how I was, than what I had inadvertently done.

If I were you, i😉I'd take the same approach as that tervena owner

XenoBitch · 03/02/2025 21:15

If I heard my DP vomiting, I would be checking he is ok... not posting on MN and moaning about him. And if he has suddenly gone quiet, that does not mean he is ok.
I remember in school when one of my class mates just vomited out of nowhere. No warning.. it just came up. You can't always make it to a loo/sink on time. If it needs to come up, it will.

Princesspollyyy · 03/02/2025 21:14

So instead of going down and checking he is ok and seeing where he had been sick, you've stayed upstairs, assumed what's happened and logged onto a parenting forum to create a post about it?

Then gone downstairs and found out he's actually been sick in a bowl and all is good?

Ok.

TwentyTwentyFive · 03/02/2025 21:13

Bubble77bee · 03/02/2025 21:12

Thanks for the replies. I have checked on him - he’s on the sofa watching tv. And I take it back…. He did manage to grab the washing up bowl so thankfully it is contained.

So you started the thread before even going to check on him?
