To be annoyed with DP for being sick on the floor?

On the way home tonight my DP said he was feeling a bit sick. I sorted dinner for our DC then took them upstairs to do bedtime while he lay on the sofa. I have no problem with doing this when he is feeling ill. Just finishing bath time and I hear him retching downstairs. He’s being sick on the dining room floor. Thankfully it’s a hard floor, but I can’t believe he didn’t make it another couple of metres to a sink or toilet. He continued to be sick on the floor while I was shouting down the stairs to him to get to the downstairs bathroom. Now it’s all gone quiet downstairs so I’m guessing he is back on the sofa and there is still sick on the floor. There is no way I am cleaning this up. Am I being unsympathetic? Or AIBU to be annoyed at him for being sick on the floor?

Reminds me of the time I was sick out of my parents bedroom window at 18 🙈 (bug not drunk) I was getting fresh air and then just suddenly was sick- snap second decision where i knew it was either out the window or all over the carpet.I was so ill after my poor mum had to clean it up from all over the windows, front drive etc...I did offer but she insisted she would do it knowing i was not in a good way....I did feel really guilty she had to do that!

However I would be really annoyed if my DH did what yours has, unless of course he was seriously unwell like having a fit or something.

Vomit and it's smell is really hard to get rid of and even worse when you have kids.

Least he grabbed a bowl

not sure why you thought he was being sick on the floor

When I have been sick, I stay where I am. No point spreading it everywhere,

Whotenanny · 03/02/2025 21:39

Before you vomit you tend to salivate. That's the warning sign to get to a bathroom right away.

I'd be annoyed, too, but at least it wasn't on a carpet (what a plus, hey?).

Devon24 · 03/02/2025 21:39

Honestly my dh would be bloody mortified if I was catastrophising over a bit of sick and ‘checking on him’. Adult men don’t need mothering! He can manage to puke by himself - clear it up by himself and rest - like everyone else in the world. Bloody hell.

She was WITH her children posting, she didn’t leave them to drown. Honestly it’s pathetic!!! He is a grown ass man not a baby!

She didn't know he was ok though. She assumed the silence meant he was fine.

Londonrach1 · 03/02/2025 21:38

You have checked he is ok if it's gone quiet downstairs.

So are all those women on the thread who have actually thrown up on the floor not a bowl also being pathetic and are they too babies or is it just men?

Acc0untant · 03/02/2025 21:37

Why is it his fault he didn't make it to the bathroom? Vomiting isn't usually by choice, at some point most of us have been, or will be, caught short with it. If he's ill (and not drunk) surely it's just an accident.

And why would you refuse to clean it up?
Are you a team? Would he clean up after you?

I'd send him off to bed with a glass of water and clean it off the floor, just as my partner would do for me. I lost count of how many times while pregnant (morning sickness throughout) it suddenly came over me and I couldn't make it to the toilet or nearest sink, my partner would just send me to the sofa or the bathroom or to the kitchen for a drink and say "go on love, I'll get this cleaned up."

Do you not look after each other? Or is there a huge drip feed/background to this?

Maraa · 03/02/2025 21:36

Before Christmas I’d have said you weren’t being unreasonable. But then I got extreme food poisoning and have been sick on my bedroom floor, dining room and bathroom floor. I have never known anything like it, absolutely awful!

Or maybe the man children on here would rather she abandoned her children to drown in the bath to check on diddums?

Gods the toxic masculinity on show here. Implying he's a child etc just because he couldn't control being sick when ill!

I'm glad the thread took a turn towards sensibility, pointing out to OP she would have been better to check on him than slag him off online.

Working with the public, I've had to clean up more sick than I care to think about because people just can't always make it to the toilet in time

And a bowl is fine ffs to the poster who said it wasn't the sink so he was wrong

Clean it up for him, he's ill!

Devon24 · 03/02/2025 21:34

Sorry op! Feel for you on this thread. It’s fine. He will live 😂😂

Lost consciousness?

You can lose consciousness vomiting. I did a couple of years ago when I had an awful night of d&v after eating something dodgy. Probably a vasovagal response. I’ve never fainted before, was really scary especially as I was on my own in the house with DD.

Devon24 · 03/02/2025 21:32

Yes chilling that you didn’t rush immediately down and mop his brow as he watches TV.

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/02/2025 21:31

So much judgement about not making it to the loo. I’m impressed by all of the organised pukers on here.

I was sitting on the sofa on the phone to someone when vomit shot out of my mouth so fast I didn’t even know what was happening and it kept coming for minutes all over me, the sofa, DH who was next to me, the coffee table and the floor. Stone cold sober, just a bad bout of Noro while heavily pregnant and I felt fine until that moment then like death for a week.

OP, with a wife like you he doesn’t need enemies. The contempt and lack of care for him is chilling.

Booboobagins · 03/02/2025 21:30

Bloody hell, he's ill. Unless he's useless all the time I'd be empathetic and clear it up. If he's useless put his clothes over it so noone slips on it and if you can stand the smell leave it for him to clean up.

I've always vomited a lot. As a child and an adult. I've stopped doing it so much in my 50s thankfully. I've never vomited anywhere but in a toilet, and beside the road in Regent Street after getting food poisoning at University. I got off the bus to vomit. I'm pretty proud of that still.
And I applaud you OP for starting the thread without checking where he had vomited, it wasn't the toilet so he was in the wrong. Washing up bowl is not OK.

TwentyTwentyFive · 03/02/2025 21:29

Devon24 · 03/02/2025 21:27

Well luckily op isn’t choosing between a dead teenager and an unconscious baby 😅

Just a man with a bit of a sick bug who hasn’t got the sense to move a bit closer to a flushing loo before be pukes!

He threw up in a bowl not the floor so the whole thread was pointless anyway because there was no reason to be annoyed at him... But don't let that get in the way of the man always being in the wrong.

Even my dc have made it to the loo. Most people wait in the bathroom by the loo if they feel very sick.

DO NOT clear it up!!!!!! Jesus.

Edited

He threw up in a bowl. There's no "clearing up" to do, really.
