Would you go ahead with birthday party today ? DD vomited

It's my DD 5th bday party today.

Huge party- 30 kids. It's at a venue with entertainers etc.

Last night she threw up at around 6pm and then again at 10pm. No fever and has been sleeping soundly since.

Would you cancel the party ?

I'm thinking to see how the morning goes, as the party isn't until 2 and then, go from there.

No one for a second believes that someone ‘really ill and immunocompromised’ would approach this situation, in this way.

But I am. I am immunocompromised and I get a lot of bugs from my kids, it goes with the territory.

Bugs are everywhere and especially when you have kids - you can't do that much about it. Immunocompromised or not.

Unmet need for attention in real life, a deep need for drama.

I suspect that level headed people were also a bit diplomatic and their “see how it goes” was a code phrase for “ unfortunately you have to cancel” especially as judging by your answers you’re quite touchy to this prospect.
I don’t think you should cancel by the way, the party could go ahead. Just you keep your LO at home and ask a friend to collect all presents. We once went to a party when birthday child became unwell a day before and that’s what they did.. It was a soft play type venue and moving / cancelling wasn’t an option - it was fully booked for quite in advance and they didn’t refund with less than 24 hours notice.

Iamoldandwearpurple · 01/02/2025 07:15

As someone who has an immunosuppressive kid who take regulat chemo you are selfish and irresponsible if you go ahead with the party.

Throwing up several hours apart is almost certainly a bug and if you were telling the truth about yourself you would absolutely not go ahead with the party.

If my dd caught something it would take her a good 2 weeks to recover fully.

Don't be so bloody inconsiderate.

Reschedule the party.

I cannot believe the self centred attitude of some parents these days.

Ohwtfnow · 01/02/2025 07:14

Oh my God, this has to be a wind up! Of course you cancel the party!! There is a massive norovirus epidemic at the moment so it is far more likely that she has vomited due to this than anything else. Especially 2 pukes with a gap of a few hours in between - that is not due to a big lunch! If your daughter is lucky enough to feel ok this morning then she has likely not been affected too badly by it but that doesn’t mean that everyone else she infects won’t be. So irresponsible.

Sugargliderwombat · 01/02/2025 07:13

cameheredor · 01/02/2025 06:16

Oh dear. She had a big lunch that sat in her stomach ( from a restaurant ) cupcake after.

I think that's the cause, not a bug.

When is anyone ever sick so many hours after eating a big lunch? Children seem fine after vomiting because they have vomited!! It's still contagious. 🙄. She's been sick twice. You obviously should cancel.

Romanswindowcleaner · 01/02/2025 07:13

Im glad you’re letting people know

PatchworkElmer · 01/02/2025 07:13

Let everyone know, and they can make their own decision. Personally I wouldn’t risk attending.

My DS had an episode where he was sick once and then absolutely fine. I honestly thought it was a one off (although I did keep him off school). 24 hours later I was in bed vomiting and it totally floored me. I wouldn’t assume that being ‘fine’ now means that it wasn’t viral.

Then why post about it?

Tisthedamnseason · 01/02/2025 07:11

Both my kids have had times when younger that they vomited, only once and then were fine. I'd have thought it was excitement or something they ate untill the next person in the family then started vomiting (not eaten the same thing) and it is clear it was a contagious illness

Yeah we've had the same. DD1 vomited once one evening, totally fine the next day. Then DD2 vomits and is fine. 48 hours later DH is vomiting.

A child throwing up twice a few hours apart is most likely to be a bug, unless you know about another cause (not lunch many hours earlier..) and I think OP would have mentioned if her child was prone to vomiting,
Maybe some people don't care about sickness bugs, but just acknowledge that rather than pretend that you know it's definitely not a bug.

How do you guys go through life and get anything done with so much anxiety ? I don't get it. Relax.

Things are going to be OK.

Then why post about it?

TwistedKeys · 01/02/2025 07:09

Don’t forget to let the entertainer know about the vomiting. Preferably before they leave for the party.

cameheredor · 01/02/2025 07:07

I'm also really ill and immunocompromised. It's not only you, who has issues.

Then you should well know not to be so foolish and careless with the health of others.

It's not about anxiety. It's meeting a very low bar for being a decent, considerate human being. Was it your anxiety that caused you to start the thread in the first place?

I know. It's crazy isn't it! When I was growing up no-one wore seatbelts and all the adults smoked around us. Today's kids are spoiled, eh?

Well, none of us started a thread about our chundering child and a party.

Op my older Ds has a severe autoimmune disease. I have 3 autoimmune diseases. You would not know this if you were a parent of a kid in his class because oddly enough we don't go around telling people unless we have to. Such as last week when I cancelled lunch with an aunt i have not seen for 5 years because she had a bad cold and cough.

A minor illness or vomiting bug may be a few days of discomfort for most- for me or my son it could be so much worse. My mother is immunocompromised - she ended up in hospital just after Christmas with this flu thing that is going around and although she is out now it has affected her heart so badly that she very nearly died. She got it from my father who had two days of sniffles only.

But you do you, hun. At the very least tell the invitees so they cna make their own decisions. Most will probably come. Some like us, would not. Because no goddam party with an entertainer is worth what could be the outcome for us.

I'm also really ill and immunocompromised. It's not only you, who has issues.

This isn't your personal blog where we're all craving updates on your life.

You've asked AIBU? Clear consensus is your being v unreasonable. Whether you're right or wrong in the end is utterly irrelevant. The point is at this stage it's a gamble, even for you and you're not even conceding that you'll let everyone make their own minds up about whether to attend.

OlympicWomen · 01/02/2025 07:05

KeepYaHeadUp · 01/02/2025 07:03

Great news that she's feeling better. So now 48 hours from her last bout of vomiting and you're all good OP. Which you know, but don't care about because of your sixth sense.

I also think it's impressive that she can predict that no-one will get ill! 😉

I would see how she is after she's been up for a few hours. If she's jumping around all excited still and seems happy enough in herself then I wouldn't cancel. Children get bugs and viruses from all sorts of places. My son went to a party last week and one of the children caught chicken pox. My son hasn't got it. Fingers crossed for you
