Would you go ahead with birthday party today ? DD vomited

It's my DD 5th bday party today.

Huge party- 30 kids. It's at a venue with entertainers etc.

Last night she threw up at around 6pm and then again at 10pm. No fever and has been sleeping soundly since.

Would you cancel the party ?

I'm thinking to see how the morning goes, as the party isn't until 2 and then, go from there.

I find it hard to understand why anyone immunocompromised would hold a party for 30 kids- some of them are bound to be carrying bugs as will their parents.

Glitchymn1 · 01/02/2025 07:27

Could it be excitement? If she ate a big lunch, plus a cup cake was it? then throwing herself about then I’d think it was that not a bug. So I’d see how she’s goes. No need to panic and cancel the party just yet.
There’s no fever either, so doubt it’s a bug personally.

See how she goes, good luck.

Fuckitydoodah · 01/02/2025 07:27

Why on earth did you start a thread if you've clearly already made your mind up? Seems odd to do that and then to be rude to people who disagree with your train of thought.

cameheredor · 01/02/2025 07:03

You don't want me to prove you wrong, that's all.

It wouldn't prove anything. If you made everyone sick you would hardly admit it on this thread. You'd say all was fine.

KeepYaHeadUp · 01/02/2025 07:27

imisscashmere · 01/02/2025 07:22

A sickness bug just went around my son’s school - he’s in reception. It was wild. My son only actually vomited once with it, but after he was plainly not right - pale, low appetite, weak, very low energy.

If your daughter has a sickness bug, she’ll be in a similar state today and it will be obvious to everyone that she’s not well. If she’s absolutely fine, then I agree she likely doesn’t have a bug and you should okay ahead with the party… letting invitees know that she vomited yesterday so they can choose what
to do.

It's just not the case to say "if it was a bug she'd be grey a poorly today". Plenty of people (some on this thread) have experienced one person puking once and bouncing back only for others in the family to be puking, grey and unwell for days. There are no hard and fast rules about how these things present or how one person may react vs another.

I agree, OP is a troll at worst, at best they state that know MN is "an anxious place" so have posted to have an argument because they know most people will tell them one thing and they'll say "Nope".

AliceSpringsEverywhere · 01/02/2025 07:27

Isn't the real factor that you don't want to waste money?
You've paid for a venue, food and an entertainer.

The risk is it 's norovirus - how would you know at this point?

BarbieGirlInABarbieWorld · 01/02/2025 07:26

Well actually a lot of people do, do something about it. The make the decision not to hold large norovirus superspreader events. Or they make the decision not to attend them when they are given relevant information about vomiting children.
Again, I simply don’t believe someone genuinely medically immunocompromised (and I’ve met many) would be so nonchalant about this. But since it’s all falling on the deafest of ears, then - you do you hun, don’t worry about the haterz!

No need for that.

At least let the parents know so they can choose to keep their kid away.

gilesday · 01/02/2025 07:22

Hahahahaha this is literally that motherland episode!! Except the mum actually has enough time to warn people and is choosing violence.

The fact that you have already told party goers.... this will get around & you will for sure be that mum for the rest of school life.

The last scene was brilliant. Of course the party went ahead, Julia is such an awful woman and selfish mother. It was funny, though.

Unmet need for attention in real life, a deep need for drama.

Yep 🙄

popduckhe · 01/02/2025 07:23

Haven't read the full post but I agree about the over reaction. I would see how she is this morning and go from there.

Except she risks really annoying the parents and kids by cancelling very late in the day.

thistlepiedpiper · 01/02/2025 07:24

You are honestly unbelievable

AliceSpringsEverywhere · 01/02/2025 07:23

I don't see how you can cancel any later than just now - this morning.

What do you plan to do?

Call the parents after lunch?

If you're ill and immunocompromised, why are you going to be with 50 kids at a party?

That seems batty in itself.

No one I know who's like you (health wise) would even think of exposing themselves to this.

Just because I don't agree with you ? Why can I not have my own opinion? That in general, I've noticed MN is a very anxious place.

I would bathe your child before the party and ask her if she feels ill at all. Be prepared to have her wear a mask or have her go home or not even attend if she were feeling in any way ill.

The party can go ahead with all of her guests (one of whom she possibly caught the bug from, if it is a bug.)

Flibberdigibbit · 01/02/2025 07:19

Most pointless post ever given your plan to disregard everyone's advice. You are very immature.

TheaBrandt · 01/02/2025 07:18

Gave me flashbacks to our worst birthday party ever.

Dd vomited the night before the party. It was an after school party. Texted the mums who all said they didn’t care as they had been at school together and they had cancelled their childcare. Dd was off school and quite ill. So I picked the guests up Dd went to bed and I had to run the party without her. She had also invited all boys to a craft party assuring me boys liked craft as much of girls. Wrong.

CeaseAndDessist · 01/02/2025 07:18

You ask a question and are then really defensive (and rude) with your answers when people give you their opinions 🤷‍♀️.

Han86 · 01/02/2025 07:18

Not sure why you bothered posting.
Are you just gloating about taking a sick child to a party?

Schools are rife with bugs at the moment and it's also wiping out the staff. I would be mega annoyed to take my child to a party where the child has been sick twice and the parent not to have told me. Have other children at their school been ill, as that would also be a good indicator of whether it is a bug? Remember people are different and some will be sick many times, others only once or twice.

I think you need to tell all parents, not just run it past some, and be completely honest rather than playing down like you are on here 'oh she was sick twice, must have been the cupcake but she's absolutely fine now'.
