It's my DD 5th bday party today.

Huge party- 30 kids. It's at a venue with entertainers etc.

Last night she threw up at around 6pm and then again at 10pm. No fever and has been sleeping soundly since.

Would you cancel the party ?

I'm thinking to see how the morning goes, as the party isn't until 2 and then, go from there.

Haha no. My daughter doesn't have a virus and hasn't made anyone else sick. Party went really well, everyone had a great time.

Don't be so ridiculous and smug. You won't know now whether you made anyone else sick. It will be more than likely next week when people start to show symptoms. Did you really think if no-one was sick at the party, then it's all fine and dandy?

Maybe OP can’t respond as they currently have their head down the loo🤮

Oooh, years ago we turned up at a daytime party where the hostess greeted us at the door, carrying her 3-year-old daughter in her arms, saying she'd been vomiting all night and day. I told my DH and sons in no uncertain terms not to touch anything and we wouldn't stay long. And yes, most of the party went down with a severe vomiting illness, including a family that was visiting the UK and tagged along - they couldn't fly home when they were supposed to.

I'd be furious if I picked up d&v from a sick child at their party.

I expect that the next update will be that the party went well and no-one got ill, as the OP predicted.

Of course it will be

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/02/2025 22:57

As others said not sure why you posted

you are going to /or have now as it 11pm / ignore all the posts saying yes you are

sickness is horrible and a shame things have to be cancelled if someone has been sick

rather then spread it and give to others

I thought all schools had a 48hr rule for s&d

Drip, drip, drip.
Little Mumsnet tales.
Every single day.

Drip, drip, drip.
It goes on for hours.
Until OP gets her way.

Puke, puke, puke.
Go the kids after the party.
Such a fine Birthday.

Hilarious 🤣🤣🤣

So sick of idiots posting these type of is this unreasonable, when clearly they don’t think they are and won’t listen to other people’s opinions if it clashes with their own 🫤🫤

Kellorello · 01/02/2025 21:19

Have you not watched Motherland.

Ilovecakey · 01/02/2025 18:17

You're an absolute selfish person! All them poor kids and parents!

MarioLink · 01/02/2025 12:56

Cancel. I wouldn't want to go if I knew. She had/has a bug and shouldn't mix with other kids till 48 hours after 10pm last night. Also often kids get sick again a day or so later or when they first eat less easily digestible food.

funinthesun19 · 01/02/2025 12:50

My DS was sick twice recently and then wasn’t sick again. He’s got 3 siblings and nobody caught anything. Edit: I think he was tired/full of sweets etc and it was the come down from his birthday.
When I last had an upset tummy and was sick, it was a few hours after I had a McDonald’s at 10pm.
My DD is sometimes sick when we go on long car journeys.

Not always a sickness bug.

TrixieFatell · 01/02/2025 12:32

I have a child who does vomit randomly. Even the school now won't send him home because it's as a result of anxiety then a bug, he was missing two days for no reason.
However I also attended a party where one child had been sick but apparently was well afterwards. The whole party ended up going down with norovirus. It was hideous.
Hope you don't have the second and that you got the attention you wanted from starting this bizarre post.

SwingTheMonkey · 01/02/2025 12:25

Glitchymn1 · 01/02/2025 08:03

This. I don’t think posters have read the whole thread or are being obtuse. There are some very aggressive and nasty posts calling the op a twat and an idiot. No need. I wouldn’t be surprised if the thread gets pulled.

Norovirus floors you, it doesn’t just make you vomit twice and there’s no fever.

This is completely incorrect.

think as long as you are happy for people to know that your daughter was sick last night, it's fine to go ahead. If you were keeping it secret that would indicate you didn't really think it was ok.

In reality kids that go to your kid's school have probably been exposed to this bug already.

The 48 hour rule for schools is more about preventing the kids vomiting while they're actually in the setting with all the mess etc for staff to deal with, IMO.

My kid's school has a 24 hour rule anyway which surprised me but they're hot on attendance

Yup they know and my DD is jumping up and down and eating and drinking completely fine.

Your ignorance about the whole situation is mind blowing but you are completely wrong about the 48h rule.

I'd be not attending your party. We had a dose of Noro just before the last summer holidays as some fuck wits decided the 48h rule was nonsense and sent ill kids to school.

mindutopia · 01/02/2025 12:11

If you aren’t going to cancel, you at the least need to notify other parents. I’m going through cancer treatment and I’ve had appointments and operations that literally probably were the difference between life and likely death. If some little runt’s parent gave mine a vomiting bug that infected the whole family and my lifesaving surgery was cancelled, I’d be more than a little pissed off at your entitlement.

AliceSpringsEverywhere · 01/02/2025 12:00

IF you have been totally honest with the parents and they want to risk it, fine.
I don't agree that they may have all been exposed at school because your DD could have picked it up somewhere else that wasn't school.

LetsGoOverThere · 01/02/2025 11:50

I had the same situation with one of my daughters when she was 5 or 6. She also had a bit of a temperature but wasnt noticible ill otherwise. The party was being held at our house and there were about 20 kids.
I was friends with the other Mums and knew them well. I messaged and phoned everyone and told them exactly what the situation was and the party was going ahead with just my kids if needed and they could decide if they wanted to come or not.

Everyone came. The kids had all been at school together so people felt that if there kids were going to get it then they would get it anyway. I don't think that's true but it was up to them.

Yup the response has been very similar in our case from the parents.

I see you the op has been reporting lots of us who don't agree with her

The arrogance of you is astounding op. It's all about you and yours isn't it? The 48 hour rule is there for a reason but somehow your family are special and exempt from this. As selfish as it comes!

And as if you are going to be coming back when lots of your dd's classmates and their families come down with it. You probably won't even feel embarrassed

I literally didn't report one single person 😂
