Would you go ahead with birthday party today ? DD vomited

It's my DD 5th bday party today.

Huge party- 30 kids. It's at a venue with entertainers etc.

Last night she threw up at around 6pm and then again at 10pm. No fever and has been sleeping soundly since.

Would you cancel the party ?

I'm thinking to see how the morning goes, as the party isn't until 2 and then, go from there.

What is the point of this thread? You think anybody who doesn't share your opinion is wrong so why ask? Bizarre.

cameheredor · 01/02/2025 06:11

Not at all ! That's such BS.

Why did you even bother asking? At the very least you need to send a message along the lines of “dd was sick a couple of times last night, she’s fine now so party going ahead but wanted you to know”

Yellow2024 · 01/02/2025 06:45

Is it perhaps from excitement?
If not then yes you'll have to postpone.

Overthebow · 01/02/2025 06:35

Why ask if you’re just going to do it anyway?

Because apparently none of us are real life people 🙄 (unless we agree with the op of course )

Hatemyhair123 · 01/02/2025 06:43

This is basically a plot line from motherland.

waitingforoneday · 01/02/2025 06:43

There’s no way I’d cancel it <ducks>

Message the guests (parents) and let them decide whether to send their children. That way you’re giving them choice.

some kids are sick and there is nothing wrong others aren’t. It’s very difficult to tell.

Some sense ! It IS possible that it's not a virus. If the vomiting continues and if there are other symptoms- cancel.

Happy to let everyone know! Also, I've told so many people anyway. They're all being level headed about it.

If all the children are sick afterwards don't worry, it won't be a bug they'll have just eaten too much party food and cake. Nothing to see here.

Honestly I don't know why you asked OP you don't want to hear anyone else's perspective anyway!

I clicked on your post because my DD is going to a party today and it made me wonder. I fully appreciate cancelling would be a wrench but it's the right thing to do for the party guests sake and their family at home.

Whaleandsnail6 · 01/02/2025 06:34

At least let your guests know about the vomiting (I know you have already spoken to 10 but I'd message everyone)

I wouldnt go to a party where a child has vomited twice the night before and I'd definitely want to be told so I could make the decision

This ^

You're clearly not going to listen to anyone, so there was really no point creating this thread or continuing to engage, is there?

YABU, by the way.

I think you're all OTT and unreasonable.

I'll let you know what happens ! I'll keep it updated next week to let you know if everyone got sick ( they won't ).

My daughter has an invite to a 5th birthday at 2pm today, hope it's not this one....
Id cancel, no way id risk it.

Yes, this is one of those threads where the OP seems to have already made up her mind what to do and is not to be swayed!

Eenameenadeeka · 01/02/2025 06:39

You'd be really unreasonable not to cancel, but it sounds like you are going to be really unreasonable so hopefully none of the guests have baby siblings or vulnerable grandparents because you are risking other peoples health here .

anon2022anon · 01/02/2025 06:36

If she'd vomited once after a large meal, I'm not sure I necessarily would cancel.
Vomiting again 4 hours later is very, very unlikely to be because of the same lunch, so no, I wouldn't go ahead.

Is it an open buffet type of party too? Most likely because it's kids- all touching the same food and in close quarters with each other. You should at least message each parent and give them the option of whether they think it's safe to attend.

Overthebow · 01/02/2025 06:35

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 01/02/2025 06:34

I understand that it's frustrating when your kid is excited, and you've spent all that money, but you just can't go ahead in good conscience.

Vomiting twice hours after a meal is not from a large meal, unless they have an allergy/ intolerance. Even if they did, I still wouldn't expect it that long afterwards.

Postpone the party, or go ahead without your child.

Whaleandsnail6 · 01/02/2025 06:34

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/02/2025 06:34

My daughter missed her brother’s 6th birthday party last year. The party would have been 40 hours after she’d last been sick. I didn’t want to risk spreading it so made her stay home. She vomited after we got back from the party (so a 43 hour gap between vomiting).

VashtaNerada · 01/02/2025 06:33

I actually think that @Begby6789 might have the answer. Could you have a watered-down version of the party with one adult attending and DD ‘joining’ by FaceTime? You could spin it so it feels really special to her that she gets to dial in as guest of honour and then the adult attending the party could bring back presents, party food etc and you can have a mini party at home. It means the party itself doesn’t go to waste and DD still gets something nice. And maybe next weekend you take her and a few friends to soft play as a ‘bonus party’.

CeciliaMars · 01/02/2025 06:33

I would be furious with you if my daughter came to your party, started vomiting afterwards, spread it to the rest of my family - and I found out your daughter had been ill the night before.
Also, I've never seen a post before where someone asked a question and was so completely incapable of understanding why every single person said the answer they didn't want to hear.

Doloresparton · 01/02/2025 06:33

You could get another mum to host the party for you if you’re going to lose money anyway.

SALaw · 01/02/2025 06:32

We cancelled my son's 3rd birthday party for exactly these reasons, so yes, I would cancel.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/02/2025 06:31

I wouldn’t come to your party. Maybe I’m not a real life person.

I only know of one real life kid who vomits unconnected to viruses/bugs/food poisoning. All the others are potentially infectious when they’ve been puking.
