If not what has been your best decade? What made each decade good/bad

I had a great twenties, lots of going in to London to see friends and travelling to the USA every year to visit my older brothers. Trained as a nurse, retrained in my later 20’s, met DH and got engaged at 30. Moved cities again, lots of travel, had children. Chucked children in a back park when small and still traveled quite a bit, we have relatives in 4 different countries so was helpful. Bought our house, had luck with an investment and paid the mortgage off just before 40. Peaked in my career later forties, now in my fifties still happy with DH. Have had a few health issues but they are responding well to treatment.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 01/02/2025 00:33

Yes. Everything good happened in my 30s - kids, wedding, house move etc and life has been relatively easy since then.

ExercicenformedeZ · 31/01/2025 23:39

40s better than either. I don't have kids, but I've been married for 20 years and am very happy in my marriage. My early thirties were a bit of a rough patch as I changed career, and my late thirties were slightly marred by Covid: not the disease itself, but the government's insane reaction to it (I am in Scotland and Sturgeon had us on house arrest for two full years. Awful, awful woman) I am more prosperous in my forties, and I have kept my figure, so I'm doing well.

SleepToad · 31/01/2025 23:27

I'm in my 50s... suddenly I am attractive to women (I am male) sadly I ain't bothered no more.

But I can say fuck you. I don't have to please the boss. Family are all good

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 31/01/2025 23:25

They were just different.

In my 20s I was very up and down, relationships not always the best, mad crushes on unsuitable men, late nights, drinking a lot. A lot of good times but a lot of crying too.

30s a lot more stable, got married, had a child.

Honestly 20s was so good. Young, skinny, care free, living life.

30s has been covid, bills, work stress, kids stress and now cost of living.

Yours 20s describes my 30s!

Don't plan to give any of that up just yet haha.

Motherrr · 31/01/2025 22:36

20s was amazing. Travel, love, freedom, qualifications, lots of craziness

Early 30s were similar but now its mid/late 30s its the usual adulty stuff! Happy to have my kids though ;)

saltinesandcoffeecups · 31/01/2025 22:14

I think they’ve all been good for different reasons, so far I haven’t found on I haven’t liked 😁

spacepies · 31/01/2025 22:11

Yes my 30s are better than my 20s.

Megapint · 31/01/2025 22:06

I loved my 20s. My kids were small.life was busy, but it was fun. Now I'm really loving my 50s. Kids are grown, and I'm a Grandma, which is the best thing ever. Mortgage is paid off, and I've taken early retirement to care for my Mil. Hopefully, in a few years, Dh can retire, and we can do the traveling we couldn't afford to do when we were younger.

My twenties were wild and carefree, travelled loads and lived abroad.

Thirties were lovely baby years.

Forties were bloody awful. Marriage disintegrating around me.

Fifties have definitely been my best decade. I am full of confidence and have a lovely house, great job and being single is wonderful. I feel like I did in my twenties again, like there’s so many fabulous opportunities and life is great!

Very happy to hear this!

There is hope!

@Tweensandterribletwos ah I'm sorry, it's just so hard to predict isn't it. My youngest is AuADHD so that has thrown us some curve balls. I really hope things calm down for you, if not, here's to your 40s!

That must be tough! hopefully you’ve got plenty of support and can get some respite when you need it.
thank you! I’m hoping things will get better when she starts school, and if not I can hopefully increase my days at work to get some more time to myself!!

thesecondmrsdewinter20 · 31/01/2025 21:38

20s contained the worst times of my life, work stress, controlling relationship and was seriously ill, almost died.

30s much much better so far. Changed to dream career, met lovely partner and bought house :)

Tarkan · 31/01/2025 21:35

I had both my kids in my 20s but in my 30s I left my toxic relationship and ended up meeting and marrying my now DH so both decades were filled with some big life moments for me. In my 40s now and this is the decade I finally graduated from uni so I'm doing well in each decade I guess LOL. I've got a few years left before working out what to do for my 50s.

TheyCallMeMrsBug · 31/01/2025 21:29

My thirties have been by far my best decade. I am approaching 40 and really excited to see where I go from here.

Tweensandterribletwos · 31/01/2025 21:29

polkalfie · 31/01/2025 21:25

@Tweensandterribletwos ah I'm really sorry to hear that, I had mine at 22 and 25, PND with both but life got progressively easier the older they got, especially when youngest started school. How old is your youngest?

She starts school in September, but she’s just a much more difficult child than her sister. Clingy, would never be put down as a baby, very rarely happy as a baby. And as a toddler just does the opposite of everything she’s asked. I’ve visibly aged more in the past 3 years than I did in the previous 15!! 😂 DD1 had her moments but was an infinitely easier baby and toddler. She’s more difficult now as a pre-teen than she ever was when she was little (which doesn’t bode well for the next 5 years either!!)

TangerineClementine · 31/01/2025 21:27

Mine were so different that it's hard to compare.

20s - living in London, sharing a flat with friends, working hard, earning well, going out a lot, travelling with my bf (now DH)

30s - married DH when I was 29, had 3 DC in 4 years, moved out of London, took a career break and was a SAHM for a few years

Both good in very different ways!

polkalfie · 31/01/2025 21:25

polkalfie · 31/01/2025 21:02

@Tweensandterribletwos not that I'm the most maternal of beings, I had PND with both of mine...but are you really writing off 2 decades because you had kids? Did you not enjoy it at all?

Loved life before getting pregnant in my 20s. I had bad PND after DD1 (suicidal etc) but to be fair once I got over that the rest of my 20s was alright - we still travelled etc. Covid and DD2 have destroyed my 30s though. Really haven’t enjoyed it second time around!

DrCoconut · 31/01/2025 21:13

My 30s was my best decade. The best balance of young and maturity. My career and marriage were going well, my 2 younger DC were born. I was happy and living my best life. Then my 40s hit and what a shitstorm that's been. Easily the worst decade of my life full of illness, crap life events and stress. And now I feel about 100 years older. Anyone in your 30s, make the most of it.

whiteroseredrose · 31/01/2025 21:12

My 30s and early 40s were my best years. They were my child rearing years, and my grandmothers were both still alive. Life was great.

Echobelly · 31/01/2025 21:05

They were just very different really. I got married shortly before I was 30 and had our first DC 11 months later, so that set the scene for my 30s!

20s were a lot of fun, 30s still had quite a lot of fun and some amazing moments. There were a couple of pretty rough years in my 30s and fewer in my 20s, so I guess in that sense my 20s were probably slightly better.

Attackasnack · 31/01/2025 21:04

My 20s were full of excitement - uni, travel, climbing the career ladder, dating, socialising, etc. I looked and felt the best I ever have.

My 30s were all about settling down - bought my first property, got married and had kids. My career went down the pan and I gained weight and aged massively!

I've just turned 40 and am now worrying about my aging parents health and what lies ahead for my DC.

I think I've had my heyday!
