To ask Trump supporters how they defend this?

To be blunt, I don't understand how anyone can stand this guy. Nothing on earth would convince me to vote for him (I'm American), but he seems to have a surprising level of support on here. Over 60 people died, including a sickening number of children.

How is this ok?

“I have a plan to visit, not the site. Because you tell me, what’s the site? The water? You want me to go swimming?” Donald Trump responded during a White House press briefing on Thursday. The latest tragic mishap marks the deadliest US air disaster in two decades.

I'm more curious about how someone can justify this particular statement as it's not partisan, just personality-based, I guess.

I hear you, but anyone who supports Trump at this point is fully on board with his personality, and the multitude of far more offensive things he has said. There's no discussion to be had with them.

You're probably right. I'm really trying to dig down and figure out whether, if someone I supported said that, I would find a way to justify it.

@ShredHead

I get that, but how do you feel about this statement? Is there a context for defending it?

I never heard him say that, but was listening to some of him speaking to the press. My thoughts were that he does go off on a tangent. That's his style. But I generally agree with his points if not his delivery.

I thought he was doing well until he said about the probable cause being dei related.

I thought it was poor form and disrespectful to start the political rhetoric so soon, as the poor relatives, friends, and emergency workers etc, will still be reeling from the horrible tragedy.

On the flip side of that though, is the thought that he knows more than he is saying at this point, and further information will be revealed.

Naunet · 31/01/2025 15:43

Surely you'd be better off posting this on a US website, he's not our president, we don't owe you an explanation as we didn't vote for him!

Edited for spelling, it's not going well today

Honestly, it's not going well for 2025.

That's the first post on this thread that's made me laugh. Agree completely.

I think he's a very dangerous man. How he has conned a lot of people into voting for him is terrifying. I just don't know how the next 4 years are going to go. Ultimately what he does has an affect on a lot of people who don't live in America. I have sympathy for those who didn't vote for him and those who are going to suffer under his regime

Fairly standard for political leaders and/or heads of departments to visit the site of tragedies.

They thank emergency services and meet with families.

Generally pay respect.

What would be the point of going there. Everyone is busy and there are no grieving people to comfort.

It's not about him going there, although there are relatives (waiting for the bodies of their loved ones) to comfort. It's about the literal words that came out of his mouth. Do you think they're appropriate for the situation?

Oh, I agree that's the larger problem, but I already understand the position of people who agree with him on that as that's a part of the mindset or world view that will have justified their support.

I'm more curious about how someone can justify this particular statement as it's not partisan, just personality-based, I guess.

Because it's not unusual for US presidents to visit disaster sites and console victims and their families and this one is about a mile from the White House. I don't know that the question meant right at this very instant. I don't think anyone was expecting him to pull victims out of the river.

And, if he didn't think it was the time, I would expect someone in his position to say something along the lines of, 'I don't think it would be appropriate for me to be there while the recovery operation is still ongoing but my heart goes out to the victims and their families and I will be there as soon as the moment is right.'

Also the fact he blamed the accident on “diversity and inclusion policies” brought in by Obama and Biden.

That's the problem here, not the swimming distraction.

I don’t support Trump and think his handling of this tragedy has been terrible. However why on earth would he go to site of the crash. Bodies are still being recovered from the river.

I think he’s losing his mental capacity (such as it is). I wouldn’t be surprised if he has early stage dementia.

He’s a psycho narc anyway but surely even his ardent voters must be questioning him.

Oh there's people in UK and Ireland who think he's a great rebel ' sticking it to the Man' and protecting them from the Deep State. I have one in my family. They are simply immune to facts or logic.

I don't understand the constitution how can he be president with his record of court cases how can he be seen.as an upstanding person to run a country it's baffling,

He's lacking in any sort of moral fibre and he shouldn't be allowed to speak in public

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 31/01/2025 15:27

@snugsnug1 I'm not sure they'd believe it, MSM is all lies and aren't to be trusted. People are just trying to destroy him. They'd take it all as a conspiracy against him. Even if shown the original video they would probably claim it's doctored. To be honest they are that removed from the real world that it would just prove to them that he is right and the left are just scared of him and trying to destroy him because he's so wonderful. These are not people who could be classed as having a lot of interactions with other people.
