To ask Trump supporters how they defend this?

To be blunt, I don't understand how anyone can stand this guy. Nothing on earth would convince me to vote for him (I'm American), but he seems to have a surprising level of support on here. Over 60 people died, including a sickening number of children.

How is this ok?

“I have a plan to visit, not the site. Because you tell me, what’s the site? The water? You want me to go swimming?” Donald Trump responded during a White House press briefing on Thursday. The latest tragic mishap marks the deadliest US air disaster in two decades.

Many of the dead are from Boston I think?

Imagine if President Kamala Harris made that insulting remark. Would Fox and Friends just let it pass I wonder.

I didn’t justify the remark.

You should complain to MN about the gif, it’s one of their stock ones.

To the best of my knowledge, you're not forced to drop by a thread you're not interested in engaging with, and use it?

It sounds as though it was said in response to some journalist hounding him about whether or not he was going to go down to the actual site and not letting it go. Just a guess

It was a press conference. He was asked a question. Does that constitute 'hounding'?

These constant demands to justify trumps latest crazy, are as boring as they are pointless.

He is the US president, there is bugger all the vast majority of MN posters can do about that.

Do you think people said that about Hitler ? I’m not comparing him to Hitler but the man is surrounded by acolytes who are only to happy to emulate him. Surely we should be talking about him…

No, I have plenty of outrage left, but thanks.

Repeatedly posting that migraine-inducing graphic is bound to make you very beloved.

Do you want to answer the question or are you just another poster dropping by to share your superior wisdom?

I honestly feel that all the presidents I can think of in my lifetime, even those I've disagreed with, disliked, not voted for, would a. not have made an insensitive joke and b. already have paid a visit the room that's been set up for the families.

For better or worse, there has never been a President like Trump.

telephonelady · 31/01/2025 16:01

Could you imagine being a loved one of one of the victims and having to meet Trump?

I think this comment demonstrates without any shadow of a doubt that this man is psychopathic.

Do people remember Bush getting battered for using the word "folks" when referring to the 9/11 bombers? That isn't in same universe as Trump's swimming comment.

I agree with him on some things (gender identity EO) but not others. Hes definitely a pretty abrasive character but being an adult means recognizing that no one is all good or BBC all bad.

Yes, I do recognise that, but are you shocked by the lack of empathy in that quote?

What would be the point of going there. Everyone is busy and there are no grieving people to comfort.

He would be standing on a river bank making a nuisance of himself. Why would you want that?

Oh of course he wouldn't be making a nuisance of himself , but you asked why he would go and I gave some ideas why he would go but you just said he isn't capable for his job 🤔 I'm not trying to trip you up but he Is president and presidents usually make visits to these sorts of things without making a nuisance of themselves but I suppose he can't give a half decent response so maybe you have the measure of him better than me.

I feel like I’m just going to save this response for every Trump thread started for the next 4 years… PROTIP… you may want to moderate your outrage. You’ve got a long way to go until the next election. Would hate for there to be a bigger oUTraGE!! next week and you’ve used it all up here.

OP: OMG WTF How can you defend/support/agree with fill in the blank
Poster: OMG you’re right
OP: I know!
Poster; I do agree because fill in the blank
OP: OMG WTF you’re wrong!

He's not going to go now.
He should go when the emergency services deem it appropriate.
Which is exactly what he should have articulated.

icelolly12 · 31/01/2025 14:36

His "joke" about swimming. You don't think that might be at all insensitive to the family and loved ones of the deceased?

I can only hope you're being sarcastic.

Edited

This! Bloody hell. He simply doesn't care.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 31/01/2025 15:50

He was rude, obnoxious, and disgusting but he always is.

I doubt anyone agrees with him or any previous president 💯.

He is tackling issues that people do care about, while being an arrogant insensitive meat head.

Horrendous tragedy for all involved in the crash. 😢

I don't think anyone should defend his reaction to the tragedy.

derxa · 31/01/2025 15:49

Coffeeishot · 31/01/2025 15:44

To see what is happening to "oversee" the victims being respected to feed back to his country how recovery and investigation is going on, to thank rescue teams , to speak to aviation experts so he say lessons learned. This is just off the top of my head.

He would be standing on a river bank making a nuisance of himself. Why would you want that?

Deetelves · 31/01/2025 15:47

He’s a self absorbed, narcissistic arse.
Nothing he says would surprise me anymore - was it a ‘joke’? If so a really shitty time to be making a joke.
You’re the president for fucks sake. It’s not even that far from the White House, go and show some respect, you orange face fuck-wit.
Or perhaps he’s off to play golf this weekend and can’t be bothered. Or maybe he has some more crackpot executive orders firing 1000s of people for no apparent reason to sign?

snugsnug1 · 31/01/2025 15:45

ShredHead · 31/01/2025 15:43

I never heard him say that, but was listening to some of him speaking to the press. My thoughts were that he does go off on a tangent. That's his style. But I generally agree with his points if not his delivery.

I thought he was doing well until he said about the probable cause being dei related.

I thought it was poor form and disrespectful to start the political rhetoric so soon, as the poor relatives, friends, and emergency workers etc, will still be reeling from the horrible tragedy.

On the flip side of that though, is the thought that he knows more than he is saying at this point, and further information will be revealed.

But he did literally say that, do you think it's ok (and I get that you're not a supporter)? I just found the lack of empathy staggering, even after years and years of listening to him.

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 31/01/2025 15:44

A more understandable/statesmanlike response would have been to say that " I will visit at a time convenient to emergency services." etc.
it's really not difficult to give an appropriate response.

Coffeeishot · 31/01/2025 15:44

derxa · 31/01/2025 15:31

I don’t support Trump and think his handling of this tragedy has been terrible. However why on earth would he go to site of the crash. Bodies are still being recovered from the river.

To see what is happening to "oversee" the victims being respected to feed back to his country how recovery and investigation is going on, to thank rescue teams , to speak to aviation experts so he say lessons learned. This is just off the top of my head.

derxa · 31/01/2025 15:43

snugsnug1 · 31/01/2025 15:40

It's not about him going there, although there are relatives (waiting for the bodies of their loved ones) to comfort. It's about the literal words that came out of his mouth. Do you think they're appropriate for the situation?
