To be really glad I don't live in America right now

I really feel for ordinary Americans. It's bad enough on this side of the Channel, hearing daily about Trump's latest petty, spiteful, idiotic bullshit - that rant against the Bishop who asked him to have mercy on immigrants, the ridiculous and insulting attempt to blame 'diversity' for the plane crash - but living under it must be so much worse. And heaven help you if you're LGBT or a woman. Or an immigrant. Or not white. Or poor. Or anyone else Trump and his freakshow of a government despises. I moan about the UK all the time, like everyone else who lives here, because god knows it's far from perfect, but at least we don't have a government in charge who is trying to strip huge swathes of the population of their rights and citizenship.

BTW the idea that 2 million refugees would have a better quality of life in a refugee camp somewhere in the Egyptian desert is a fucking joke.

they are in a refugee camp now, it's a shit heap, it got blown up.

Gaza has already been ethnically cleansed of all Jews (except for those currently held hostage) so I guess precedent has already been set.

Trump is utterly batshit and is going to be responsible for the ceasefire talks collapsing. He's an absolute loon and I am genuinely scared for what is going to happen all over the world as a direct result of him being president. It's incredibly scary.

Yeah those ceasefire talks are dead in the water now.

I am absolutely horrified by this. Apart from the idea that he appears to be talking blithely of turning Gaza into some kind of holiday resort for rich Americans, he has no plan for where he's going to resettle these 2 million people. Egypt is POOR. There's no way they can afford another 2 million people, or even a fraction of that. And he and Musk have shut down foreign aid so the orange twat clearly has no intention of giving aid to the refugees or the countries he's planning to force to take them in. He's such a disgusting excuse for a human being.

Kicking 2 million people permanently out of their home is NOT going to lead to long-term peace. Absolutely no way on earth.

OK cool - what's a better plan?

A two-state solution, but that is what Trump's done his best to scupper forever.

SernieBanders · 05/02/2025 10:29

I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it's the least bad option for everyone?

Anyway, back to Trump. The man is now planning to ethnically cleanse Palestine and resettle it as 'the Riviera of the Middle East.' Literally can't believe what I am reading today.

Cheers America for dumping this utter psycho/sociopath on the rest of the world. He has no issue with creating a huge illegal immigration problem - and trying to force Egypt and Jordan to take in millions of immigrants - but won't do it himself, obvs. What a massive prick.

Thats never going to happen. You think Israel is going to accept that?

Unfortunately they are the ones in control here.

The Palestinians aren't going to accept being 'resettled'. That is equally unworkable. Not to mention illegal under international law, as ethnic cleansing is.

They don’t have a better plan. Two state solution is not viable. It perhaps never was. We should stop pretending.

Ofc I don’t want America to manage Gaza so I hope a Gulf country can do it instead. Better for the refugees as well, since GCC will be more likely to ensure their return.

What absolute bullshit. You can't just put countries in charge of other countries. If the USA is planning to 'resettle' Gaza - which sound like ethnic cleansing, because that's what it really is - then it's the USA's responsibility to take in those two million refugees. Nobody else's.

Actually sort out a workable two state solution.

I don't want them being blown up every 18 months. I assume you don't either.

Given - that Israel is not ever, ever going anywhere, the best choice all round for everyone, would be to cut the losses, which have been huge, and just move.

You haven't answered the question - the USA is going to take all the Palestinian refugees, yes? All 2 million of them? If not, where do you suggest they go?

You're not on their side if you're happy for them to be destroyed as a people.

There isn't anywhere for them to go - but as it's Trump's idea and he's the one responsible for the ethnic cleansing, the USA should take them, right?

Why should they? So they can have a better quality of life and not be blown up every 18 months, to be very frank. As I say, I'm on their side, I just think it's about time people were honest about the situation, just like Trump is.

They don't want to move and why should they? It's their land. Also, why should Egypt and Jordan be forced to take in millions of refugees? Egypt in particular can't afford it. It'll also bring terrorist activity into their countries, which neither of them want, because Hamas isn't going to just give up.

Is Trump offering to move all the Palestinians to the USA? No? Then he can fuck off, the massive orange hypocritical racist twat.

I'm quite passionately anti zionist, and left leaning. But I have come to the conclusion that Israel is never going to go anywhere and so possibly the best thing to do is to move the Palestinians, who to be clear I think have a better claim to the land, to somewhere where they will not be perpetual victims of war. There will never be peace until someone moves, and Israel, backed by the US, is never going to is it.

Of course there is such a thing as intersex. It's well known in biology. Often in crustaceans and fish but also in mammals. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intersex_(biology)

People who are intersex have genitals, chromosomes or reproductive organs that don't fit into a male/female sex binary. Their genitals might not match their reproductive organs, or they may have traits of both. Being intersex may be evident at birth, childhood, later in adulthood or never.

Causes may be trisomy or may be developmental.

FYI I have an ancestor who was registered as a girl at birth (1871) but developed as a boy and went on to found a successful business and family. There are a number of conditions that can lead to intersex.

No. This is categorically wrong.

everybody. Even those with DSDs (which is the proper term, not intersex)

is 100% EITHER MALE OR FEMALE there is no in between. Sex is and is only every binary.

Cabinet positions are often handed out based on loyalty and ability to carry out the president’s agenda. You know this.
Don't they have to be elected by voters FIRST?

No; British cabinet members are mostly elected MPs (a few Lords); but American cabinet members are appointed by the president, mostly from outside Congress. They are part of the executive branch, not the legislative branch.

Ah I see. Here in Australia, Cabinet positions are all elected reps.

Same here in Canada (afaik 🫣)

Loooove Australia, btw. Spent a lot of time on the GC.

Trump just announced Sean Parnell as the chief Pentagon Spokesman. Parnell’s wife testified under oath that he repeatedly choked her. He ultimately lost custody of his children.

Yes. It was sarcasm. He surrounds himself with nothing but the best 🙂

Well by that measure Starmer is hardly better, securing 34% of the vote, and because of the low turnout only 20% of the population voted for him.

Labour is set to poll about 34 percent, not even two percentage points more than Jeremy Corbyn scored in 2019 and significantly less than the 40 percent that Corbyn scored in 2017.
To put it another way, thanks to the second lowest turnout since 1885, scarcely 20 percent of eligible British voters support Keir Starmer’s Labour. Yet, he will end up with approximately two-thirds of all parliamentary seats.

Yes. Should be compulsory voting as we have here in Australia.
