Sabrina Carpenter says 'please don't embarrass me mother fucker' on Please Please Please, and Olivia Rodriguez says 'I still fucking love you baby' in Driver's Licence, which is clearly not aimed at children... But they're not saying 'shove your c0ck up my ar$e,' 'chew my clit,' and 'get me juicy and wet as you fuck me from behind' are they?

This is out and out attention-seeking, and pathetic, with a 'let's see how filthy we can be to get attention' vibe - like that hideous WAP song. Who the fuck wants to hear about wet juicy fannies and men sticking their face in them when they're listening to music? For fuck's sake. 😂 Anyone who thinks this is just adult music needs to give their head a wobble. It's hideous! 😖

Also Bruno Mars has never done music just for adults! His music has always been mainstream and for all ages.

I will not listen to it on purpose but it sounds to me like he wants to be cancelled in the same way that Robin Thicke was (and to a lesser degree Pharrell Williams) with their awful song from a few years back.

I mean, I don't like it. I actually really don't like it, and I don't generally mind explicit lyrics. Hell, I didn't switch off if WAP came on a Spotify mix even if it wasn't my favourite, it was catchy.

That said, it's not really a musician's responsibility to make PG music just because they have some young fans. The song is marked as "explicit" on Spotify and Apple Music, it'll have a parental advisory warning on physical copies; that's the extent of what I expect a musician to have to do to ensure their music doesn't reach inappropriate ears. The same with films and TV shows- if it's properly warned, they've done their part. Parents shouldn't be sending their children off to see a film rated 18, they equally should be monitoring that their young children don't have access to music which is rated explicit. I saw the same argument made about the Five Nights at Freddy's film a couple of years back; just because some young kids want to see it doesn't mean it was intended for a young audience, and it doesn't mean the creators shouldn't be able to make the horror film they had conceptualised from the start.

Bruno Mars, and Sabrina Carpenter who has also been mentioned, have always been writing music for adults. No, not all of their songs are explicit and therefore appeal to all ages, but that doesn't mean artists should be boxed in to making either exclusively adult material so only adults are likely to come across it, or exclusively child-friendly material so that young listeners are never going to hear a song about sex. I know it doesn't always make it easy, especially in the internet age, for parents to manage; but it isn't the artists' job to manage either.
