To think that wolf whistling wasn't such a bad thing?

Joanna Lumley has just given an interview in which she says..."I never minded wolf whistling, I always thought it was tremendous".

She also said... "I think we were a little bit tougher then. Somebody put their hand on your leg, you didn’t feel affronted and report it. You’d give them a slap.”

Do you think she is right?

But yet you pretend you're full of sympathy for women but then go on to say you find it all so funny and getting great fun with people trying to explain something to you. You're fooling noone, you're just hear to wind people up and cause trouble. Don't know how mumsnet works but hopefully you'll either be banned or your disgusting posts deleted.

This is genuinely funny. Rants abusive rubbish at a stranger ignoring facts that have been directly quoted, then demands sympathy because you personally are being laughed at.

How do you write a wolf whistle I wonder, let's go with whee whooo, well done you, off you pop then, weren't you leaving?
😂😄😅

Hahahahah! Brilliant. Reported for directly quoting someone and refusing to pretend that children and women who hate street harassment were ever weak.

Thanks heaps for the giggles, I needed them after reading all the bizarre ranting by people who enjoy strange men making weird noises at them in the street.

Just pretend I shouted some street harassment at you, and walk away smiling feeling good about yourself😅😂😂

I just reported her for twisting someone's words into something obscene and disgusting, hoping she will get a ban.

You are so pathetic. I almost anticipated your response word for word. The responses are there but we all know you're both a liar and you twist words. You are making yourself sound ridiculous, don't be an idiot, the responses are there in black and white. I don't "make things up", I'm not embarrassed because I've done nothing wrong. You meanwhile, ought to be extremely embarrassed for your lies. Don't waste your time replying because this time, I really am leaving.

I'm leaving too, not because as she said we don't have anything to say but to twist the words to make it sound like the person meant children is so vile. I can never look at her username again, and if there was an option to report her just for being vile and disgusting I would in a heartbeat.

Calm down love, no need to get so distressed over facts being quoted.

Obviously, if I had reported you your bizarre ranting posts would have been deleted. But I didn't because I found it quite funny :)

Just pretend I am a strange man in the street making weird noises at you. You can feel flattered and walk off with a smile.

Ah, so you cannot quote anything because you made it up and are leaving in high dudgeon because now you're embarrassed at being called out.

If you want to continue enjoying having strange men make weird noises at you, all good. You do you.

Fair enough. Bye :)

Sorry, can't be bothered because you twist everything to fit your own agenda anyway and I'm joining Op n exiting the thread. You find the myriad of posts denigrating women who are being run down because of their opinions if you want to reread them. Oh, and stop saying men are making "weird noises". Whistling and shouting "Hello, Love" etc is just that - whistling and shouting! Enjoy the rest of the thread.

Ah, so I'm right and you have no argument. Good to know 😘

Her trying to wiggle out of what she said once I had quoted her was not an explanation.

Girls are children. End.

I'll ask again, do you honestly think she meant children , nothing to do with using the term girls, do you think she meant children?

I literally just answered you. Of course she meant children. Because girls are children. What do you call female children if you don't call them girls?

Bbq1 · 29/01/2025 14:33

meh2025 · 29/01/2025 14:21

Could you please quote where someone has said that women who enjoy having strange men make weird noises at them are not allowed to have different opinions and experiences?

Could you also please directly quote people shouting down posters they don't agree with whilst ranting about children being targeted.

Thanks.

I've already answered above

I don't see an answer. Do you call female children girls or not? If you don't call female children girls what do you call them?

fairycakes1234 · 29/01/2025 14:31

meh2025 · 29/01/2025 14:30

Girls are children. Her own words discredit her.

You being impressed with me won't make me lie, I'm afraid. Yes she meant children. Because girls are children.

But be honest, seriously did you think that person meant children or young women, you know well she meant young women so why discredit her by pretending you thought she meant children, hand on heart you must know she didnt mean that..I'm be so impressed with you if you admit that.

Three different men on one 30 minute walk around the park, during covid. Like fuck it's a minority or dying out, just because you're lucky enough to hat it has for you. I stopped going for walks around the park after that only for someone to cat call me as I put rubbish in the outside bin about 6 months later. Last year I got a 'nice tits' as I walked to the tube to go to work.
I'm a very average looking woman in my 40s, so presumably it's still even worse for more desirable young women.
The only thing that is changing is women's willingness to tolerate it. Men still seem to be catching up.

Yep, it's less accepted now, but still prevalent. I added a video earlier of a woman being street harassed in NY. The scariest part of it was that it was absolutely what I expected to see and tallies up with my own memories of being younger in any city I was in. It's ten years old but I doubt much has changed.

You won't get anywhere, they're the type of people who because you speak with your own experience will be shot down. If someone said to me girls, I would think girls, ie 18 to 20 plus, I call my 18 year old and her friends girls, not women and thats obviously what you meant too, by implying children they're putting a total different slant on it so don't feel upset, that's just very low to come out with that, take care

Basically, Op it's turned into a pile on against the people who didn't mind the occasional ww and have also never witnessed children being targeted, but these posters with there constant reference to, "street harassment" claim it is true. They then say they have proof. They don't because where is the proof? We believe them anyway but in return they call women who didn't mind the ww's, weak with low seld esteem and resort to saying that they weren't as great as they think they were! I would give up Op, I am too as these vitriolic, angry, angry posters cannot and will not accept that other people have experiences that don't mirror theirs .

💯 agree

No doubt some still do it, I suspect a minority, because as I repeatedly have said..'times have changed'.
I have also said my son worked on building sites between education, and the workers certainly didn't wolf whistle, his attitude was it was ridiculous, and I'm sure if they had they would have been reprimanded.

No doubt sites differ, as do areas, but the overall feeling on this thread is wolf whistling and cat calling is certainly a dying 'habit'..(insert whichever word you think fit)

In my vocabulary, and in the way it was said... GIRLS are relatively young WOMEN.
I was quoted here as saying CHILDREN....which deliberately puts a completely different slant on what was said.
