Using this link and putting in everything joint net income ,including child benefit and maintenance which I think it takes into account. It has us at 73 percent. Not a stealth boast before any states that. Genuinely surprised.

I certainly don't feel like this but appreciate people survive on less. It doesn't take into account mortgages, rent, generational wealth, inheritance, childcare etc so is a guide.

It is eye opening though.

I feel poor compared to my friends though. We definitely are not the London elite. Just public sector workers in the North. I guess the maintenance helps. My friends must be in the top 20 percent.

After rent bills food savings.
Im left with 600 to play with and most of that goes in my savings as i dont need to spend it.

it's because of housing why so many with a relatively high income don't feel it. So you could be in the 80% category but then if you accounted for housing costs dropped down to 60%. Lots of people don't have a mortgage or have a small one.

Ah didn’t notice the after tax bit! Gone down to 86%

Same. Mine’s has now gone down to a mere 90% better off than the rest of the population.

97pc and we still rent. Ten years till retirement and no way to pay the rent then. Interesting times coming.

Edit didn't see it was after tax 83pc

Vgtasd · 26/01/2025 11:59

I honestly have no idea what this is supposed to be showing?

Skandar · 26/01/2025 11:53

92% - feels surprising as we're not loaded, but we are doing OK and don't generally need to worry about money.

Titasaducksarse · 26/01/2025 11:53

Realise you were meant to take off tax and NI from earnings.

However also hadn't added in other income which then put me back where we started.

Butchyrestingface · 26/01/2025 11:51

“you have a higher after housing cost income than around 94% of the population - equivalent to about 62.9 million individuals.”

That calculator is fucked.

Miralaine · 26/01/2025 11:51

95%

I’m a single parent in a 2 bed in London and whilst comfortable I most certainly am not rich in terms of available spending money.

Shudacudawuda · 26/01/2025 11:50

50%, Mr and Mrs Average 😁.

Sounds about right although I feel more well off than that if I'm honest, probably because I grew up really poor so feel like we're doing very well in comparison.

GOODCAT · 26/01/2025 11:48

96% which is surprising given that there are two of us and I am the sole earner

Titasaducksarse · 26/01/2025 11:45

93%
Benefit of partner working away thus earning a lot more than he would where we live.
However, our household income isnt really that big and i dont work full time. Small 2.5 bed semi, so I suppose they take that into account hence question re council tax.

I already knew we were very fortunate compared to others.
