...murders.... that the reason these things happen is because people / immigrants are not being helped to integrate in our society and feel alienated. On Laura K show. Dear lord I'm sorry but that's ludicrous ... if I've misunderstood please help me out. Its really angered me !

I don't know about this particular case, but it's blindingly obvious where I live that certain members of ethnic minorities are often poorly integrated into wider society, and sadly this does often lead to antisocial behaviours. Campaigning for better integration is a lot more progressive than arguing we should simply round them all up and send them home, and a lot better for everybody than just ignoring the problem.

Livelovebehappy · 26/01/2025 15:02

There is a huge lack of integration by a lot of immigrants. But it’s not because society here makes it difficult for them. It doesn’t. But because they don’t want to integrate. They like living in their own communities with their own people, talking their own language. I think the same of the ex pats moving to Spain who just want to live in their own little bubbles, with other ex pats. It’s not the responsibility of society to integrate people. They have to take responsibility to do that themselves.

BoldRed · 26/01/2025 15:01

Rudakubana’s brother appears to be a sociable, academically successful, fully ‘integrated’ young man whose high-brow musical and cultural interests are European in nature. The idea that this family was somehow outside the mainstream seems untrue.

I’m not going to get more angry at Kemi than I am at the mass murderer who killed those little girls.

You can have differing shades of anger, you know. Ask Farrow and Ball. They aren't mutually exclusive.

If she mattered, I would be angry with St. Kemi for trying to drag a horrific tragedy into grubby party politics and culture wars, rather than trying to be part of the solution.

I can see the connection very clearly. The system, the mental health system, the nhs, doctors surgeries are all under unbearable strain because we have too many people arriving here. Housing is in crisis, social care is in crisis. How much worse do things need to get before people wake up??

We can NOT sustain over a million arrivals a year.

Of course people that live here, were born here - are going to fall through the cracks. If we had the resources we could have used interventions, but as we are being spread so thinly as it is - there was no such life saving intervention.

We do not have limitless resources to do everything, and we are paying a very heavy price in every direction for a lack of control.

Edited

It's not because we have too many people here that we're under resourced. It's because our wealth & resources are increasingly being concentrated in the hands of a minority.

It's a choice made by governments who represent the interests of that minority, who recognise the west is in decline and have decided they'll be fine as long as they can convince everyone else to pay for it.

We need to wake up to the reality that we're a declining country and decide if we want to navigate it together or carry on as we have and let free market zealots plot that course.

The richest 1% in the UK own the same wealth as the poorest 80%, 5 families have more than the poorest 20% of the entire population. That's unsustainable.

What makes pupils in the USA commit mass shootings?

They have easy access to guns - but what factors are there, what's happened to them to make them commit mass shootings?

Are any of the learnings from the USA relevant here?

Watch "Bowling for Columbine."

@Noangelbuthavingfun It's no more daft than Keir Starmer's suggestion that the killings were caused by young men being isolated from society in their rooms.

He can fuck off with that one. People not being social doesn't transform them into murderers who indiscriminately attack children.

Edited

I beg to differ. There have been several acts of terrorism by incels who don't seem to do much but read misogyny online. They're renowned for being social misfits. From what I've read about mass shooters, they're often bullied and isolated.

His dad's concerns were ignored. I can't believe his room wasn't searched sooner. His family have had to go into hiding. They kept him off school they were that concerned. They would rather be hurt by him than have him hurting other pupils and staff. His dad took him to karate so he wasn't alone in the house. He should have been locked up long before 30th July 2024.

@BoldRed so that teen was given 300 hours of community services, placed on a curfew and placed under surveillance for trying to make a gun.. Yet axel had none of that for the knife.
In the bbc I'm sure I read the school said he had a knife on 10 occasion

He ‘admitted’ carrying a knife ten times. He was expelled from school after being caught once. I have a horrible feeling that knife carrying is extremely common while gun making is still rare.

This is a part of what she was talking about today.

I wasn't sure initially how issues with integration were all that relevant in this case.

But I do agree with what she says about the number of people born here who don't seem to like the UK. You only need to head over to Twitter to see this.

I was born here. I can trace my family line to Sir William Bowes I who is my direct ancestor; and which makes me a distant relative of King Charles III through his mother.

I don't like the UK. There's lots of things I don't like about the UK and one of those things is how far some people will go to justify racism. Why on earth, though, would I want to head over to something run by a racist, misogynist from South Africa?

its fucking ironic that Badenoch of all people is talking about people being ‘inculpated’ - I assume she means ‘inculcated’ - in hate. That’s exactly what she’s doing.

Personally I wouldn't invest too much time in her. She won't be around that long.

SunshinDay · 26/01/2025 14:17

@EasternStandard the autism re integration not the fact he's a second generation migrant.

Personally I don't feel that has much to with what happened at all.

I think if he was isolated it was due to his being autistic and struggling to fit in and being bullied (earlier on)

*I'm specifically talking about kemi use of integration here and not his crimes.

EasternStandard · 26/01/2025 14:14

SunshinDay · 26/01/2025 11:11

Why don't politicians get proper briefing on this stuff.
The mn threads on this have been incredibly informative.
It was nothing to do with integration and everything to do with his autism and a lack of service that could tackle his issues.
The services where there but each one proved totally ineffective.

Can you say where you've read that it's 'everything to do with his autism'?

The "being inculpated in hate" bit is interesting.

Many people are being "inculpated in hate" at the moment. It's the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz tomorrow. People are being radicalised, being taught to hate, to see people as other, living in their echo chambers and something causes them to act out their hate.

So all black people - regardless of where they are born - need to "integrate".

She really isn't the brightest of bunnies is she ?
