...murders.... that the reason these things happen is because people / immigrants are not being helped to integrate in our society and feel alienated. On Laura K show. Dear lord I'm sorry but that's ludicrous ... if I've misunderstood please help me out. Its really angered me !

@Hotflushesandchilblains "thesis"?

Where are we? A chat forum or university?

If you're interested there have been desperate calls from charities way back in Blair a day saying they used to have, say 10 people a week needing their services and suddenly there are 30 / 40 and they can't cope.

I'm responding to the poster who soley wants to blame the tories.

Under Blair charities and organisations in many parts of the UK were literally inundated with new cases they couldn't support. Swiftly followed by the global credit crisis, austerity

Thesis = idea. Sorry if that is not a word you would use.

Having worked under several governments, including the Blair one, I would dispute what you say about services. But clearly you are determined that immigration is the cause of all problems, so disengaging now.

shuggles · 26/01/2025 16:51

@MonkeyToHeaven GDP per head in the UK 25 years ago was $28,762.1, in 2021 it was $46,869.8. So ask yourself where's the money going?

This one is simple- it's going into housing costs. House prices have skyrocketed much faster than inflation.

Houses aren't actually supposed to cost £290,000. If house prices had risen in line with inflation since 1970, the average house would only be around £70,000 - £80,000.

Houses would be cheaper if there was less demand and if the supply wasn't constrained.

The Southport murders and immigration are two entirely separate issues.

I find it very worrying that people are continuously attempting to conflate the two.

Exactly. The issue with what Badenoch said was that she was conflating the Southport killings to Immigration. So no matter thst the family were refugees, fleeing genocide, no matter that they had integrated, she was saying that even second and third generation immigrants who had integrated could be accused of not integrating. Including presumably her, Rishi Sunak and many Conservatives. Immigrants not integrating and trying to impose their own forms of culture on people who don't want it is a problem. But it's irrelevant to the Southport case and sounds like what it is. Kemi using a tragedy to shore up her vote in the face of Reform

From what I’ve read he apparently called childline a few years ago to ask for help as he wanted to kill people, it’s shocking that even when he asked for help himself it wasn’t there. His parents asked
for help multiple times as well and to no avail. I think it’s wrong to link this to ASD though as it’s clearly a failing on the part of many professionals. Much like in the case of Sara Sharif blame was put on home education when in fact there were a series of failings made by professionals.

This!

That’s untrue. We do have too many people here. Even in the last 25 years the population has grown from 58m to 69m currently. An extra 11m people, even though birth rates have been in decline. Yet no additional investments in the NHS or housing to accommodate the extra people. Or should I say an attempt has been made to increase investment in NHS, but the upper tiers of the NHS have managed the finances poorly. We should focus on the quality of immigrants, and reduce the quantity.

What bit is untrue?

Funding for the NHS in real terms increased between 2000-2010 and led to it being ranked the best in the world. Real term funding fell, capital investment funds were limited & poor workforce planning over the next 14 years led to it's current state. A deliberate and calculated choice.

Investment in housing, particularly affordable social housing, was deliberately restricted by government policy. Forcing councils to sell off housing stock and limiting their ability to reinvest the proceeds in new stock has been a disaster for working people.

At the last census, there were over a million uninhabited dwellings in England & Wales.

GDP per head in the UK 25 years ago was $28,762.1, in 2021 it was $46,869.8

So ask yourself where's the money going? All we've done since Thatcher is assist in moving public wealth and assets into private hands, pay for the economic crashes caused by a renegade international banking cartel.

But sure, it's all because of immigration and managers at the nhs.

It doesn’t matter how much you try and deflect by using individual examples as being unreasonable, the fact is that immigration is out of control. It’s too high and it’s bad for this country.

The country was built on immigration. The economy does better with immigrants.

All those problems you've been told are because of immigration have deep rooted reasons which are nothing to do with immigration.

Where do you see it in a decade or two?

Do we keep increasing the population, in terms of how many is it just continually rising?

@username299 I'm aware that people with personality disorders can be charming but as far as I know, none of the husbands in the Relationship boards have committed mass murder.

No, charming people just commit sexual offences instead.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2010-12-08/report-profiles-charming-rapists/2366782

If you think that introverted people are a risk to you, then you are sorely mistaken.

I didn't say that introverted people are a risk. Lots of different personality types commit sexual offences.

My post was about individuals who commit mass murder being socially isolated and often misfits.

I'm happy to hear evidence to the contrary regarding individual mass murderers.

Have a conversation about immigration by all means and link it to an immigration issue

This murder is not an immigration issue. This is shameful and shameless bandwagon jumping and playing into the hands of the far right to make sure too many voters dont jump ship to Farage

Racism, pure and simple. Dont like it? Dont say then.

She was talking about some immigrants not integrating and having a strong dislike of the UK. She was therefore talking about immigration and linking it to an immigration issue.
We don't actually know whether this is the case for the Southport killer or not.

I do think some people on here have led v sheltered lives and don't seem to have a great deal of real life experience of people from different backgrounds.

Have you never heard of the white devil? I remember being at Uni when a lecturer was discussing this. Some of the white kids in the class couldn't believe it 😂😂😂

We (and certainly our politicians) need to be able to have open, honest conversations about immigration without being called racist.
Other countries seem to manage this.

The reality is the system of checks failed at level, repeatedly. People need to be fired over this.

The reality is that the vile party which Badenoch is so proud to lead have underfunded services to the point that they will fail and people will die. Usually by suicide, but sometimes other people, and in this case, the almost unimaginable tragedy of it being small children.

When services are under pressure they retrench and make referral criteria more rigid - its the only way to make sure your service does not collapse. Its a lot easier then to look for scapegoats when the inevitable happens, rather than to look at the systemic failings which go all the way up to the government.

this is the answer, absolutely
multiple people and agencies recognised there was a problem with this child and did what they could to protect others from him and get him help- none of it succeeded because the services are all at crisis point
it has nothing, nothing to do with the fact that he is black

because that's what is constantly being hinted at

I just cannot understand why people keep going on about boats/immigrants/multiculturalsim when we have known for months now that this was a British child, born and educated here

except that.....he is black....and 'looks evil'....so we can blame it on that then
god help his poor parents and brother

SunshinDay · 26/01/2025 16:06

Why don't politicians get proper briefing on this stuff.
The mn threads on this have been incredibly informative.
It was nothing to do with integration and everything to do with his autism and a lack of service that could tackle his issues.
The services where there but each one proved totally ineffective.

Everything to do with his autism?

When people excuse crimes on the basis of autism, they send out the message that autism = murderer, rapist, hacker, thief. That makes it difficult for everyone else with autism.

JessiesJ99 · 26/01/2025 16:02

saraclara · 26/01/2025 15:53

But she is racist. Her opinions are racist. Being one kind of black person doesn't make her accepting of all brown and black people and incapable of racism.

To all appearances, this attack had nothing to do with race or religion. Much as people seemed desperate for him to be Muslim, he isn't. Part of the Prevent failure was that he simply didn't have any particular target or purpose. He was simply obsessed with the idea of killing.

As far as we've heard, the family were well integrated, so her premise in the interview was way out. She's just trying to make political capital out of this tragedy.

But what has she actually said that's racist?

Yes,, where were you during the Tory government, shes been like this all along.

Asvoria · 26/01/2025 11:20

I was born here, but I'm not integrated at all because I'm autistic. I live my life on the margins and have absolutely nothing in common with about 95% of the population, plus I can't even communicate effectively with them. I follow all laws though and don't go around murdering people. My children have similar challenges, but they just have to get on with it too.

People who were born here can't access help for themselves or their children. Why do migrants deserve it more than we do? They get enough as far as I can tell. The country now has to cope with thousands of unknowns entering our communities. Who are these people and what are their backgrounds?

'As far as you can tell'. I assume that's based on no actual knowledge?

username299 · 26/01/2025 15:53

shuggles · 26/01/2025 15:46

@username299 I beg to differ. There have been several acts of terrorism by incels who don't seem to do much but read misogyny online. They're renowned for being social misfits. From what I've read about mass shooters, they're often bullied and isolated.

Lots of people are socially isolated, but yet incel attacks are extremely rare. It also needs to be emphasised that the Southport killings were completely different from any incel attack. In incel attacks, there is a clear motive and a defined target- for example, Elliot Rodger planned to attack a sorority which had the most attractive women. Rudakubana had a history of violence with no clear motive, and no reason for attacking the people he did.

Second, while a loner or misfit can be dangerous, there are many extremely dangerous people who are sociable and charming. Many psychopaths and sociopaths appear to be very charming at first.

If you need evidence of how dangerous sociable and charming people can be, just go and read the "Relationships" board on this website.

I was talking about people who go on to kill after being socially isolated. I gave the example of incels. They are known to be socially isolated individuals. There have been two acts of terrorism by incels as far as I'm aware and people were murdered.

I wasn't talking about a defined ideology, I was talking about social isolation.

From what I know about mass shooters, they tend to be isolated individuals or misfits and are often bullied.

I'm aware that people with personality disorders can be charming but as far as I know, none of the husbands in the Relationship boards have committed mass murder.
