AIBU to be fed up with all the Keir Starmer threads

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 22/01/2025 17:56

It's giving me flashbacks to 2016 when there were about 20 threads a day saying nonsense like, "AIBU to be concerned about the EU's plans to conscript everyone into an EU wide army?"

Just put a sock in it, already.

What’s revisionist? Did the Tories not have four leaders in eight years? Were three of them not turned on by their own MPs? Starmer won because the country wanted rid of the Tories. Voters were sick of the lies, rubbish public services and the increasing gap between the richest and poorest in society. The stables that need cleaning are the ones the last government left knee deep in ordure.

👏 Exactly this!

MyNameIsX · 23/01/2025 18:28

Pure revisionism.

Starmer crept in because of the divisions in the Tory party. One rather suspects that many Labour voters are currently nursing a severe case of buyers remorse.

To be clear, which stables is Starmer cleaning? Presumably Reeves’s.

It tells you how unhappy people are with this bunch of morons who have stumbled into government. This country is finished. There wasn’t much left by the Tories anyway, but now it’s well and truly finished.

Well sod off and live in the US then.

Nope back in the real world away from Tory bot filled Mumsnet I’ve yet to come across anybody not very relieved to have a Labour Party in power.

Is it insecurity or voters remorse that causes people to throw clearly nonsense statements around? Disagreeing with your point of view does not make one a ‘Tory bot’. Two thirds of the electorate didn’t vote for Labour, and public satisfaction is almost record lows.

It’s not credible, unless you have a very very small circle of friends / contacts, to not have come across anyone since the election who disagrees with your minority point of view.

I agree. You know Starmer is doing something right because the red top media owned by Billionaires are coming hard and fast for him and Labour.

This!!!!

Four of those Tory PMs were in eight years. Three of them were forced out by their own MPs. Loyalty is such an alien concept to the Tory party, it must come as a shock to realise that other parties don’t treat a leader who transformed them from an unelectable rabble to election winners in four years the same way.

Starmer knows he’s unpopular, he’s been transparent about expecting unpopularity because cleaning the stables means unpopular decisions. We’ve already seen him under pressure - remember the riots? Tough, ruthless, decisive and uncompromising.

Ah, the laughing emojis, beloved of those who lack an intelligent riposte.

One isn’t needed your party continuously lied and you know it. The whole country knows it- and won’t forget. Taxes, Brexit, Covid, stopping the boats….
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Sunak called one thing spot on.

He called Starmer out on tax rises - again, and again.

Your man lied, you know it, we know it.

Sunak reckoned every household’s tax would go up by £2k a year, he lied about that and he lied that it was a Treasury forecast.

What an odd comment.

How many Tory PM’s were there during those 14 years? Five, to be precise - or 2.8 years tenure on average (skewed by Truss, admittedly).

Starmer is a wholly unlikeable individual - brittle, lacking in charisma, dogmatic, without any political antenna. I could go on. Let’s see the real Starmer, when he’s under a little pressure.

If the Tories managed to last 14 years I think the chances of Starmer not serving a full term are next to zero tbh.

He’s been in power for six months. Give him a fucking chance. Do you think he has a magic wand that he’s not using or something?

I don’t think anyone on this thread who isn’t satisfied with Labour and Kier feels that way because they haven’t turned the UK into a utopia in six months…. It’s more that they have made a bad situation, worse!

I voted for Labour. I really wanted, and still want, them to succeed. I’m not expecting them to work miracles, but so far they’ve been appalling, and done stuff even the most hardened Tories would recoil from! For instance,

a) Removing winter fuel allowance from anyone entitled to a state pension… That’s just £11,500 per year! Of all the places they could have identified money across the UK, they chose pensioners with tiny incomes! They could have tapered it to kick in at a higher amount, and still saved most of the winter fuel allowance bill, but no! Even Ebenezer Scrooge would have blushed at the prospect!

b) The Tories always increased money for social care, not by nearly enough, and it was still the Cinderella service compared to the NHS, but they did increase funding. Labour did too… the difference being they’re taking it away again in employer NICs contributions - the amounts are comparable. Factor in NLW and increasing demand from an elderly population and you have a cut, a deep cut at that!
Social care is now FAR worse off under Labour than was under the Tories - at least it will be when the NICs kick in in April 2025, and it will create a crisis in the NHS as a result soaking up much of the money earmarked for it. The incompetence is just astonishing!

I could go on but I haven’t got time…

They need to reset, and do so fast.

Never understood the reference milquetoast until I saw him being interviewed.

@MissScarletInTheBallroom you'll just have to accept people have different views.

I mean posters use formulaic responses like 'difficult decisions' or 'black hole' and people respond to these as they want. You won't get what you're after unless you go to another site.

@MissScarletInTheBallroom you'll just have to get used to Labour not always being spoken about positively

Mnhq are clearly fed up with the multiple bot accusations and are removing posts or posters

It is tedious to see the same on every thread and ruins the site

I have frequently spoken negatively about Labour myself. I didn't vote for them.

My issue is specifically with the constant very formulaic threads making unevidenced suggestions that the country is on the brink of collapse or that Keir Starmer will be gone within months.

It's all very silly and tedious.

I'm not objecting to people genuinely critiquing government policy.
