AIBU to be fed up with all the Keir Starmer threads

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 22/01/2025 17:56

It's giving me flashbacks to 2016 when there were about 20 threads a day saying nonsense like, "AIBU to be concerned about the EU's plans to conscript everyone into an EU wide army?"

Just put a sock in it, already.

OP posts:

I do feel like many of the posts do have a bot-like tone. They’re short, pithy, using some sloganeering (‘Rachel from accounts’ 🫠 which is sexiest as hell).

Mn are clever, funny vipers and can do a much better takedown of Labour than the current crop of OPs. That’s why I think they are bots, personally.

Luckily mnhq are deleting, suspending or banning posters who go on about others being bots

So keep going and you might find Blue Sky after all

I think labour are doing great.

Our alternative is a lurch to the far right.

I think anyone who is politically slightly right leaning all the way through to far left should rally behind our current government to prevent the shitshow that is happening in the US from happening here.

Trumps puppet master, Musk did a fucking nazi salute for fucks sake.

How exactly are Labour doing great?

And no, the only alternative isn’t the far-right. There are lots of things Labour could do that I think would be good for the country that are neither far-right nor far-left.

Trying to scare people into rallying behind Labour won’t work. If Labour want to succeed and then win the next election, they need to present a positive vision and deliver real tangible results. One of the reasons Remain lost was because it was incessant negative about the prospects of leaving rather than being positive about the benefits of remaining.

Hear, hear.

Notice noone’s posted about Ange lately…

Brexit has finished us off. I know European economies are suffering too but they have more options than we do now having boxed ourselves into a brexity corner. Farage is as least partly to blame for it.

I'm not exactly a fan of Starmer but I find newspapers and people online trying to present the Labour government as some kind of disaster that's in utter disarray pathetic. Yes they're disappointing and wrong about a lot of things but they are still 100% better than 14 years of Tory rule, which really was a disaster from Brexit onwards and is still responsible for the vast majority of this country's problems now.

Really not sure what aspects of Labour make them 💯 better than the Tories. I can’t see anything positive so far from them… At least in 1997 they hit the ground running, and did stuff. I don’t see anything tangible from this lot; apart from removing winter fuel allowance and taxing business!

LlynTegid · 23/01/2025 07:06

What there seems to be in the many threads is that the standards Keir Starmer is being judged on are far higher than those the Tories were, especially between 2019 and 2024.

I recognise their failures or bad decisions, and that more people voted for 'third' parties (Lib Dem, Reform or Green) than Labour. However, I will not forget how bad the last few years of the Tory governments were. As I have said on other threads, I don't forget that as with Charles I, the Tories under Boris Johnson illegally suspended Parliament.

How do you know this? Genuine question.

SallyWD · 23/01/2025 06:56

Yes I agree.

TheaBrandt · 23/01/2025 06:53

Seems to me that the Tories ran the country into the ground over the last 14 years but managed to keep it limping along shoving things under the carpet then Labour come in and actually have to sort it all out and then dim people blame Labour for the pain in doing that. Unbelievable.

TaffetaRustle · 23/01/2025 06:45

@BarkLife so by the same logic Russia must have instigated millions of threads about Boris at a party and brexit?
Some posters are incredibly repetitive it wouldn't surprise me if they were actually a bot

It's a refreshing break to be honest from the millions of Boris threads about a party.

Tekbrobillionaire · 22/01/2025 18:32

Not the right kind of threads
Not the right type of replies

head to bluesky whilst you can still agree with everyone else on there

Or this.

EasternStandard · 23/01/2025 06:36

Just hide the threads. Starmer isn’t liked by everyone clearly and public sentiment has shifted since the GE

If you want a closed off Labour only site I’m sure there are others on FB or somewhere

Viviennemary · 23/01/2025 06:34

Yabu. There aren't that many. But KS is very boring and I rarely read stuff about him in particular. And he is PMafter all.

Diomi · 23/01/2025 06:32

He is the prime minister and the economy is going badly. It would be weird if there weren’t threads on him. The threads reflect current polling. Not everyone on Mumsnet wants to talk about parking and salads (although both those are fine if they interest you).

Adamante · 23/01/2025 06:16

Couldn't agree more @MyNameIsX

Summerhillsquare · 23/01/2025 06:11

Oh do tell us your credentials and qualifications @MyNameIsX as you are clearly so superior to us oiks. Give us something to aspire to 🙏

Summerhillsquare · 23/01/2025 06:07

"stumbled into government" - you mean won a massive majority in a general election, our usual democratic process in the UK?

"Morons" - you mean the first cabinet that is representative of the country in terms of class, education and sex?

Careful, your upper-classes-are-entitled-to-rule prejudice is showing.

My occupation has naff all to do with you. We have a declining influence because we exited the EU.

A comparitatvely unproductive workforce? In comparison to who? We're one of the richest countries in the world.

Spite of Labour. Don't you lot ever come up with anything new? Redistribution of wealth is "spite", helping the deprived is "spite", taking from the wealthy to give to the poor is "spite".

Raising taxes to pay towards failing public services is "spite". Anything that means you have to contribute towards a functioning society is "spite".

Do you know what I think is spite? Blaming the poor for government failure.

I don't see this apocalyptic end of days you're currently quivering over. I see a country stripped bare after the pigs were kicked away from the trough.

You are of course entitled to post your opinion, but your lack of knowledge is quite evident - in the nicest possible way.

Returning to the topic thread, I suspect that Starmer posts will continue for some time...

I’m heading off for a run shortly - have a good day.

A dip in the economy? ‘Right wing whingers’? ‘Hard right’?.

You are tone deaf to what is happening in the world. I would be interested to know your professional background - for context, you understand.

In the interim, now is the time to deploy that critical thinking. Tectonic plates are shifting globally - we have an increasingly bifurcated world, much of which is inflationary. We have an ageing demographic, we have a comparatively unproductive workforce, and declining influence - none of which is unique, but we do have a wholly unqualified government - barely any commercial experience/acumen amongst them - and it shows.

Don’t let your hatred of the Tories blind you to the incompetence and spite of Labour.

God forbid Brexit is mentioned when discussing the state of our economy. After all, it's relevant.

Who cares who voted for Brexit,? We should never have had a referendum. It was a ridiculous idea.

We've had a dip in the economy, it's hardly Trussenomics. Why are right whingers so hyperbolic?

We had our anti immigration moment of madness with Brexit, our hard right nuts aren't that popular. Reform won a few seats and the Tories are a shambles.

Labour’s record, in six months, speaks for itself - look at the bond markets, look at their fiscal policy, look at the reaction from business. Where’s your critical analysis? Just look up - the west is heading to the right, and we are the anomaly.

It is estimated that approximately 3.5-4 million Labour voters voted to leave the EU, incidentally, but its fantastic you managed to weave Brexit into this (yawn).
