Reception

MarioLink · 20/01/2025 16:32

Average mid way through reception so turning 5.

My oldest could write like this in pre-school at just turned 4 (couldn't do the diagrams before that) and she continues to be working at the top of her class and needing extra work in juniors.

For a couple of kids in her class this would be normal for year 2 or even year 3 but they get extra help.

Academically strong state school in wealthy area.

Reception or a year 1 child who struggles with writing.
I’ve taught KS1 and been a senco for 20 years and that’s what would assess them as.
Happy to help if you’ve got any questions.

I can only compare to DD when younger, youngest in year but top set. Just had a look at her diary which Year 1 teacher asked them to keep between reception and Year 1. To be honest her spelling was better, so I'd be thinking a reception child. Having said that, they learn at different ages, so could be a Year 2/3 child.

Cityzen74 · 20/01/2025 16:30

Maybe year 2 so 6 or 7?

Lavender376 · 20/01/2025 16:28

For the handwriting alone I would say reception, but other things point to an older child.

DD would have written more neatly at 5 but wouldn't have spelled "beach" correctly till 6.
DS was writing like that at 7.

I can't figure out the end "and Dad made me a mawp soot?"

It's interesting to see capitals dotted around so not Reception. I would say child with SEN in Y3/4.

4 ish but taught by you rather than using standard Read Write Inc because of the mixing of capital letters and the spelling isn’t phonetic.

What I mean by that is it looks like something that has been copied or spelled by a parent rather than independently generated. The handwriting and the sentence structure are mismatched.

Reception

SevenKingsMustDie · 20/01/2025 16:07

Reception - wouldn't meet Expected Standard for Y1.

mynameiscalypso · 20/01/2025 16:07

Is this homework or just a piece of writing they've done for fun?

hazelnutvanillalatte · 20/01/2025 16:06

Year 1 handwriting, year 2 spelling

Growlybear83 · 20/01/2025 16:05

If this is a recent piece of work, definitely no more than the current Reception.
