TTC and cousin's birthdays

I've recently had the MMR vaccines (again, had them before but didn't have immunity) and now finally in the clear to start TTC. I know it's super unlikely but if we did conceive this month, my due date would be a day before my nephew's birthday & only a couple of weeks after my niece. AIBU to TTC this month or would we better waiting a cycle?

Obviously I know the odds of conceiving on the first month are slim and the odds of them coming on their due date are also slim but just wondering if others have taken into account cousins birthdays when it comes to TTC and potential due dates. I'm probably totally overthinking this as I think well this cycle would result in being close to niece and nephew's birthday, next 3 months are close to Christmas and post Christmas etc and there's just really no ideal time is there so maybe we should just go for it & see what happens.

Really?
No-one I have ever met in my life has ever said at the arrival of a lovely new baby,
"You do realise don't you, that they must have conceived this baby while they were staying with us last Christmas/after the eldest sports day/at our wedding/during that snowy period when we were all trapped indoors".
Babies are (hopefully) made when they are made and arrive when they arrive.
Now, get on with it and good luck!

DP did get a jokey comment from his brother along the lines of only doing it once a year, when they found out my due date for DC1 was DSC's birthday...

ItGhoul · 21/01/2025 15:52

Oh for god's sake. Just forget about random relatives' birthday parties and get shagging. You're being weird about this.

Penguinmouse · 21/01/2025 15:35

Focus on yourself - you’re overthinking this.

i dont know ONE person who has ever thought of this....OP - come on now.. i am an overthinker like you but this is not real.

I have! I planned it that way. And it happened the way I planned. 😅

QueSyrahSyrah · 21/01/2025 12:58

Our DS was due on one cousin's birthday and actually born on another cousin's birthday. Funnily enough the cousins are brother and sister with birthdays only a few days apart.

Didn't cross our minds until I was already well into pregnancy and makes absolutely no difference to anything at all, except perhaps Grandparents on that size having to write a bit smaller on the calendar to fit them both in?

I know you've called yourself a massive over-thinker but this just isn't something worth giving a millisecond's thought to.

SJM1988 · 21/01/2025 12:57

You cant think like this otherwise you will never TTC.
There is never a right time and you have no idea how long it will take, when it does what your actual due date will be and the baby makes up its own mind when to arrive.
I'm very much a let it happen naturally person (after my first anyway - that was planned for Sept lol) We have Sept, Jan and June DC birthdays. Feb and July for me and DH. But all of your birthday are near cousins, aunts, family memebrs, friends birthdays and friends children's brithdays, school starts, Christmas, summer hols etc

catin8oots · 21/01/2025 12:53

Is this a joke? I share a birthday with my son.

Loads of family have birthdays a few days apart

canyouletthedogoutplease · 20/01/2025 15:17

We have loads of bithdays on top of each other in my family, it's pretty normal no? What happens if you have two cousins with birthdays two weeks apart? Is there a reason this is a bad thing?

In our family we have two birthdays seven days apart (our DS and DN). It’s not a problem at all!

nam3c4ang3 · 21/01/2025 12:25

Tillow4ever · 21/01/2025 12:22

In the space of 5 weeks in our family we have:

2 nieces birthdays
2 nephews birthdays
2 sons birthdays
Christmas
1 BIL birthday
1 sister birthday

No-one has ever worried about sharing the limelight - and 2 of them have the same birthdays (not twins - different families).

At another month in the year we have:

1 sons birthday
1 nieces birthday
2 mum's birthdays
1 dad's birthday

We literally only have 1 nephews birthday that doesn't fall into either of these 2 month periods!

You are over thinking it - if you fall pregnant straight away, people will be happy for you. And if they are close in age maybe you can save the cost on parties by doing a joint celebration if you do anything that's family only?

Good luck!

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 21/01/2025 11:33

My brother and my son have a day between their birthdays. I hadn't considered this when I was trying because I'm normal. It's never been an issue - in fact, they love it.

SapphireOpal · 21/01/2025 11:19

You're massively overthinking this. Even if your due date is between their birthdays, the chances of the baby being born on either birthday are fairly small. And even if they were, so what?

GreenTeaLikesMe · 21/01/2025 11:13

Each of my kids literally shares a birthday with one of their cousins. I actually think it's lovely, and at least we all remember each others' kids' birthdays!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 21/01/2025 11:11

Do not put your plans on hold for these birthdays. So what if they have similar birthdays

MsSquiz · 21/01/2025 11:00

My SIL has 3 kids, their birthdays are 14th, 15th and 22nd of the same month. DD1 was born on the 18th of that month.
It is what it is!

AKettleOfDifferentFish · 21/01/2025 10:39

Good grief, this is completely ridiculous. How do you even know what the due date of the baby would be, anyway? It usually gets adjusted after the 12 week scan so even if you did conceive immediately the due date based on your last period is just an initial rule of thumb.

Greeneyegirl · 21/01/2025 10:31

That's so random. With my first it took us 11 cycles to concieve, I couldn't have cared if they turned up Xmas day I just wanted to be pregnant. Honestly if you want to put it off for the sake of a birthday youre probably not ready

SnoopysHoose · 21/01/2025 10:27

You share a birthday with millions of people, you're being silly.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 21/01/2025 10:12

EskarinaWeatherwax · 20/01/2025 15:14

Sorry, chronic overthinker over here. I just know birthdays are a massive deal for our family. I feel like if we'd been actively trying beforehand and then were still trying this month that's one thing but choosing to start this month feels different.

There wouldn't be any birthdays to celebrate if nobody was allowed to focus on having babies! This is more important than family occasions. If all goes well there will be an extra family member to bring along in future. Don't prioritise anything else.

Hohohoeyy · 20/01/2025 22:23

It took me a year to get pregnant with my first so I think you’re massively overthinking about something that probably won’t happen.

Eenameenadeeka · 20/01/2025 22:19

I never even thought about considering cousins birthdays! Id try not to have a December baby though, Christmas time birthdays aren't the best.

okaynotokay · 20/01/2025 21:42

OP, I truly understand what you mean and I therefore planned my pregnancy in a way that didn't overlap with birthdays / anniversary on the three months period. I naturally conceived in the second month. So everyone has my DC's birthday party to look forward to after their new year's celebration.

flotsomandjetsome · 20/01/2025 18:07

As PPs have said don't most families (as per the randomness of any group of people) have a load of birthdays bunched up and then months with no one??

We have 4 family birthdays in January, none at all in the summer, and actually amongst friends and colleagues five people on the same day.

Wingedharpy · 20/01/2025 17:37

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 20/01/2025 17:31

No offence OP but that might just be the silliest reason I've ever heard for delaying TTC.
