I caught myself today repeating one of my cockney mums sayings to dd

Although we're estranged, I'm definitely turning into mine. Fingers crossed I don't get her early menopause 😩

Edited to add that I was so happy about getting 4 x steaks from lidl today and planning tonight's dinner. My dm would be the same about a bargain 😄😄

God no.

I fact, I tried so hard not to turn into my mum that I accidently turned into my dad instead. 🤣

For the record my family are all excellent and decent people. I’m just quite different to them.

Yoheresthestory · 17/01/2025 17:26

No, we’re not much alike. Physically or personality wise. I can recognise a few traits from my father but I’m fundamentally very different to my parents and sister. They all think I’m a bit extra😭

MrsSethGecko · 17/01/2025 17:26

Absolutely not. I work very hard to make sure I don't.

FaithFables · 17/01/2025 17:24

No. I tried very hard to make sure I wouldn't turn into my mum, and never realised that would mean I'd turn into my dad. 😵😂

Roselilly36 · 17/01/2025 17:22

That would be my worst nightmare, thank goodness I haven’t.

GrumpyInsomniac · 17/01/2025 17:21

DH says that he made a point of getting to know both my mum and my maternal grandmother, and knew what he was potentially letting himself in for. He’s fine with that, obviously!

My mum is amazing so I would be very happy to be gradually be turning into her. I am probably more like my grandmother, but again, I don’t see that as a bad thing.

Crushed23 · 17/01/2025 17:21

No. We're incredibly, incredibly different so I will be amazed if I do. So different that the lack of any similarity between my life choices and hers is a cause of huge tension, and communication has all but broken down.

Do daughters who are different from their mothers also turn into them eventually, I wonder?

Karatema · 17/01/2025 17:21

Yes, but I'm happy about that 😀 I say things and do things she does. My DH would prefer it if I was a bit more OCD, like her, too! 🤣

Not yet, I’m hoping I can avoid the one-way monologues for another few years at least!
