What 3 things are keeping you in your current job?

I’ve been thinking about my current job lately - it’s stressful, with tight deadlines and a lot of pressure, and I’ve seriously considered quitting. But despite the challenges, there are a few perks that are keeping me here longer than any of my previous roles:

  1. Stock options
  2. Free lunch and bottomless snacks/drinks
  3. Travel opportunities

What’s keeping you in your current job, even if it’s not ideal? Are there perks or reasons that make you stay or do you just love what you do?

My job doesn't pay a lot. But!

It's manageable with my anxiety disorder.

I am my own boss.

I meet loads of dogs.

Me too!

Health insurance
Pension payments
Can't think of a 3rd

Rewis · 16/01/2025 11:02
  1. Flexible hours and WFH
  2. Can use my annual leave flexibly
  3. Can manage my own workload and nobody breaths behind my neck
I don't particularly enjoy my job or my work place. But those are not something I'm willing to give up for a better place to work.

I actually love my job, though it isn't that well paid, but here goes:

Terms and conditions; it's NHS so excellent sick pay, annual leave and pension

The people. Things are insanely stressful, we are short staffed but the solidarity is palpable

Operational independence: I can suggest and make changes that improve things

NoahsTortoise · 16/01/2025 10:57

I don't massively enjoy my job - or more accurately, I don't enjoy it at my current workplace as it's dull and I wfh alone 100% of the time. But the things that make me stay put are:

Decent pay with annual payrise & bonus

Wfh allows flexibility for dropping/picking up my toddler, plus I can look after her if she's home sick

Want to have another baby so can't risk moving to an unknown maternity package

cadburyegg · 16/01/2025 10:56

Hybrid working, 2 days a week mandated in the office and 2 days wfh. I like the mix.
Flexible, good for me with the kids. Never had an issue in emergencies etc
Commute is reasonable
Parking
Colleagues are decent and hard working (had flaky colleagues in my last role)

stanleypops66 · 16/01/2025 10:56

Term time only contract
Good pay
WFH- organise my own diary so lots of flex

TheStigarette · 16/01/2025 10:53

Wow @PersephonesPomegranate that pension and leave is fantastic. Where do you work (if you don't mind giving a rough idea)

Gumbo · 16/01/2025 10:52

100% wfh
Unbelievably good sick pay (was clearly an error when they wrote my contract)
Excellent private health care for my whole family

2chocolateoranges · 16/01/2025 10:50

Pay

pension

No weekend work

The management hide in their office, never on the floor and tell you they want to support everyone but really they don’t.

Nothatgingerpirate · 16/01/2025 10:49

Just the money it brings, three times, if you want, OP.
Domestic and commercial landlords, myself and my husband.

Okbyethen · 16/01/2025 10:48

In this order ...

  1. Flexibility - absolutely crucial for me in a job role (seems like this is the same for many on here!)
  2. Allowed to WFH
  3. Colleagues in my team are lovely
  4. It's an easy job that I can do whilst half asleep 😄
TheStigarette · 16/01/2025 10:47

Wfh and flexibility
Pay
Interesting work

The management are poor and quite disempowering. That will be the thing that makes me leave.

Ilovemyshed · 16/01/2025 10:47

Pay is reasonably competitive
Fully WFH with some flexibility
No weekend work and complete switch off when on holiday

2ndMrsdeWinter · 16/01/2025 10:44

Supportive line manager
Term time only option
one WFH day

Bonjovispyjamas · 16/01/2025 10:35

Pay at the end of the week, even if not high paid.

Holding out for redundancy pay which I know will come in the next year or two.

Too lazy to to look for a new job 😆

Blarn · 16/01/2025 10:32

I'm currently on a temporary promotion so mainly that!

But it's a supportive team who are happy to share their work to give me more experience.

It's very flexible.

It's a Civil Service pension which I had had since I was 19. Moving jobs I'd stay in the CS, it would be foolish not to. (And I admit I may not cope in the private sector!)

K0OLA1D · 16/01/2025 10:30

I am disabled and don't drive so having a job i am good at and is paid reasonably well is point one. I can work from home and it's very close to home.

MegaClutterSlut · 16/01/2025 10:30
  1. short commute (3 mins walk)
  2. the hours work around family life
  3. staff discount
MajorCarolDanvers · 16/01/2025 10:28

Overseas travel opportunities
working from home
hotel and airline points

id definitely leave if it wasn’t for these

MarSeaLane · 16/01/2025 10:27

I'm proud of my achievements professionally.
My close colleagues.

I really can't think of a third.

Searchingforthelight · 16/01/2025 10:26

Lovely work colleagues
Reasonable commute with a bit of WFH to break up the week
Leave entitlement allows me to manage school holidays for a good portion of the time

jotex · 16/01/2025 10:25

Great pay and no stress/easy workload

Jmaho · 16/01/2025 10:25

Only work 4 days
Mainly from home
Know the job well
