To always dress my baby in a sleepsuit

My baby is 3 months old and he only wears vests and sleepsuits. We have a few outfits that were gifted but I don't put him in them really because changing is a faff. Even body suits with socks, the socks don't stay on so fuck that. I've started taking him to baby classes now and in the 3 classes we've been to he was the only one in a sleepsuit. Does nobody else do what I do or is it like, considered lazy or something like if I came to baby class in my pyjamas?

So minimising the faff of changing clothes in a small baby’s routine is somehow selfish and means the baby loses out?

I believe that’s what the youth of today call ‘a hell of a reach’

AxolotlEars · 15/01/2025 14:11

Ooo I love a sleep suit on a baby. If your child dressed and comfortable with as little fannying about as possible that seems like a win! We all want to be comfortable. So many of us put on pyjamas as soon as we can. 🙂
When one of my children had a life threatening illness at 2 she wore pyjamas everywhere. What other people thought was irrelevant!

Quicksilver15 · 15/01/2025 14:11

I rock up to all my baby classes with my 3 month old in sleep suits. Who gives a crap what others think? I rarely even notice what the others are wearing! I will probably dress her like this until 9-12 months, maybe 9 months if less reflux by then, but equally weaning is a mess fest for years!

Dressing a floppy little baby is nuts to me, if it was warmer in this country they’d just be in a nappy 😂.

She also hates it when dressing becomes protracted so this is a win all round.

"...because changing is a faff..."
Says it all; your baby will fit your routine rather than you adapting to you baby. Perfect..

😂🤣 needed a laugh thank you

Oh do sod off. I didn't mention dressing up like a doll, as you well know.
My comment was relating to the OP wanting to dress her child for her convenience, rather than what might be better for kid

Baby’s needs at this point are to be kept alive I’m sure they aren’t worried if they’re in a sleepsuit or leggings and top. How on earth is OP not doing what’s best for her child by dressing them in a sleepsuit?
Your priorities are very odd.

romdowa · 15/01/2025 14:07

My son had horrendous reflux and threw up after every feed. Outfits were pointless as they just got puked on. At least the sleep suits were easier to change ! He was about 5/ 6 months before he started wearing an outfit every single day

marble505 · 15/01/2025 14:07

Oh definitely, I think outfits are such a waste at that age. Yes it's cute, but is really unpractical and uncomfortable for the baby I imagine.
3 months is still tiny, no one should expect anything more especially in winter

onwardsup4 · 15/01/2025 14:05

Aww I loved mine in baby grows. So cute and practical at that age. Hate seeing babies in silly clothes like jeans. Make the most of the baby grow days I say!

Creamice · 15/01/2025 14:05

My children didn’t sleep in so called “sleep suits” overnight as they slept in Grobags and were dressed in vests according to the temperature of the room.

My children did wear “sleep suits” during the day (almost exclusively) as they are comfy, practical and nothing cuter than a baby in a babygro as they used to be called.

What a ridiculous comment. Do you think small babies like being dressed up like dolls? They want to be comfy and cosy, not dressed up for their mother's entertainment. If you want to dress a small baby, do so, but it's for your benefit not theirs. Arguably, it's to their detriment.

WimbyAce · 15/01/2025 14:01

Just looked back at photos of my youngest at 3 months and pretty much every one she is wearing a babygro!

DenimPeer · 15/01/2025 14:01

At 3 months it's fine so long as the child is warm enough in the current weather. If it was really hot weather I'd be hesitant because it could be too warm. By 6 months I think an outfit of joggers and layer tops looks better. I think your comment in the OP about part of the reason to only dress your child in sleepsuits because outfits are too much faff did make it seem you want just to do what is easiest for you and not necessarily in the best interest of the child in the longer term. Some people at groups may judge you. You have to decide if their judgment bothers you or not.

Kokomjolk · 15/01/2025 14:00

Bend to her will GrinGrin

Yeah the baby definitely needs a pair of leggings, imagine how embarrassed he is.

Mielbee · 15/01/2025 13:59

I did this! To me, sleepsuits are clearly most comfortable for them and therefore that's the most important thing! I think it's really selfish of people to dress their tiny babies in cute outfits that are definitely more uncomfortable for them. However, I did feel like I was in the minority and while I never got comments, I did think people were thinking that I hadn't got my baby dressed.

paperklip · 15/01/2025 13:27

What on earth is this comment

'This comment' is pointing out that the OP appears more concerned with making the child bend to their will rather than adapting to the baby's needs

WhatATediousPeacock · 15/01/2025 13:56

My first was in babygros until 7 or 8 months. I was so overwhelmed with everything else that it felt like one thing I didn't have to think about. Her "wardrobe" was one basket of sleepsuits and one basket of vests - easy to wash, dry, fold and put away.

I did got lots of comments about "PJ day" from family/strangers in the supermarket but shrugged them off. If you're not dressing my baby or doing my washing, it's none of your business.

DazedAndConfused321 · 15/01/2025 13:56

Yanbu. I prefer to dress mine in leggings and tops but there are times where sleepsuits are more appropriate, comfy and easier! Do whatever works for you x

Olika · 15/01/2025 13:56

I kept mine in babygrows for months. I found them easy to handle when changing nappies and didn't have to think of socks.

70s · 15/01/2025 13:54

Babygros as long as you can. I once took my baby to the doctor and he said she was so sensibly dressed as jeans etc were uncomfortable for them. Suffering from pnd at the time, this made me feel so good.

He’s 3 months old, still sleeping most of the day - wearing a sleep suit makes sense! I think if adults fell asleep every couple of hours we’d probably not bother with ‘proper’ clothes either 😁

BackinBlack24 · 15/01/2025 13:54

Mine is 7 months and usually always In a sleepsuit unless there's an occasion, I love her in them they are so cute and there will come a time she is too big for them so I enjoy her in them for now , couldn't care less what anyone else thinks tbh

Ceecee2422 · 15/01/2025 13:54

Sleepsuits tend to be better anyway as a lot of babies suffer with stomach issues as their digestive systems get used to processing things so anything else normal clothes wise tends to cut into their stomachs and cause unnecessary problems…….

Kokomjolk · 15/01/2025 13:53

YouveGotAFastCar · 15/01/2025 13:39

I don't think mine ever did - he wasn't really a sick-y baby, and he never had a nappy explosion.

I'd always change him from overnight, because it didn't feel right that he'd be in the same outfit for 24 hours...

I used to consider it a very good thing to get more than 24 hours out of a suit! Didn't see a problem with it myself, since babies aren't sweaty. But anyway they'd have a bath every couple of days which is when I'd change their clothes if they were still un-besmirched.

But this doesn't matter at all. I don't think either approach is bad. I only meant to respond to PP who said that all that matters is changing them out of the clothes they wore at night. No, it doesn't matter!
