Been at work all day cooked put the DS to bed who is a pain for bedtime takes me a good 45 minutes to get him to sleep. Finally come downstairs to relax and have a cuppa DH is watching his fav YouTubers one after eachother. Really cringy childish stuff I can’t stand it. Had a huge argument about it and he’s gone upstairs in a huff and kicked the bin over!!

Am I supposed to just go along with what he wants.

Do you listen to any talk radio? Because that's basically all a podcast is.

Nope I generally tend to switch off from "all talk" programs. Prefer music on radio or narration over something visual on tv / youtube.

Tommarvolo · 14/01/2025 22:25

My DH watches middle aged men talking about fantasy golf. It's not even real golf!

I've found I just do something else now and he misses out.

There’s plenty of great content (interesting podcasts like dr Rangan Chatterjee or the Oxford debates ect) on YouTube for adults and if anything I think it’s mostly inappropriate for young kids but hey each to their own

Oh okay - they have hey duggee and a compilation of Mr tumbles songs, I know that much 😄

Oo I did listen to James obrien when I used to work - loved mystery hour but didn't like anything else on lbc

I think we should use this thread to recommend all the good stuff on YouTube.

I nominate JCS Criminal Psychology channel. Someone has also uploaded all of the Ricky Gervais Show cartoon series.

I think he's classed more of a Podcaster but he is obviously on YouTube. Can't get into him myself. I'm not really one for podcasts either tbh.

There is some quality stuff on YouTube, but I also can't stand "YouTubers" just listening to people go on and on. I don't let my children watch it because I think it's mind porridge but I don't tell my husband not to, I just go sit in the other room. Or ask him "hey do you want to watch ---- together" if you want to spend time with him.

Baital · 14/01/2025 22:18

It depends what you watch on YouTube, but in many ways it is no different from any tv channel.

There are some brilliant podcasts that are as good (or better) than mainstream tv or radio programmes, with just as good production values. The Rest is History, for example, if you enjoy history, with a huge following.

Ew that would give me the ick tbh, a grown man watching YouTube, dunno why 😄😄

I think it is for kids and make up tutorials

Unless he's constantly monopolising the TV, I couldn't get worked up about it. Put your headphones on and watch something yourself, or listen to white noise and read a book. No big deal :).

ChannelFiveDrama · 14/01/2025 22:17

Are they sports YouTubers? I hate this trend for watching other people talk about sport whilst it's happening. Just watch the bloody match.

Doggymummar · 14/01/2025 22:16

We've been watching it all evening, solo traveller Japan, taskmaster, and cats doing daft things. We have an hour's TV each except I cheated and chose Vera which is 90 mins. We don't have regular TV so watch a bit of YouTube each night

Yeah that's what I see podcasts as tbh, him and that Steven bartlett and the people with non medicinal cures for stuff 😕😕

And Russell brand

Wateroffacatsback · 14/01/2025 22:12

I watch so much YouTube I pay for YouTube premium. We don't have a television and we cast what we want to watch from YouTube, Netflix etc onto a large projector.

If my husband came in and did what you did while I was enjoying what I like to watch on YouTube, I'd feel like kicking a bloody bin as well.

I'm currently watching YouTube on the main TV 🙈 I watch documentaries though not actual YouTubers, that would do my nut in

And that’s fine! I enjoy things like that.

DH watches them or similar but they are ones about his hobbies but this is on his laptop in the other room with earphones in. He would know better than to inflict them on the main TV

I remember being a teen and my db watching boys play video games with a headset on, and that formed my opinion of the site I think 😄

Is joe rogan a YouTuber?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 14/01/2025 21:59

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 14/01/2025 21:53

Agree that I'd just use my phone/ipad with earphones 🤭

I've only ever used it for tutorials on make up/days, didn't know they had documentaries 😄

There is literally something about anything on there!!! Cooking, art, how things are made, I could go on forever.
But as pp has said it can be a bit "niche" therefore not necessarily for the main tv.

How weird. People watch all sorts on YouTube - I mostly watch podcasts (politics, beauty, parenting) and travel documentaries. My partner (a grown man) watches football podcasts and guitar tutorials. It's basically a really niche version of TV...

I've never thought to consume news/politics on YouTube, except for the sky news feed during a world event

I don't watch/listen to podcasts either tbh - although there is a new fashion show that'll be on YouTube so I might try that

Do you watch anything he finds a bit ‘cringe’ like Love island 🤢 etc.?

Does he watch along with you or kick up a fuss? This would inform my reaction.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 14/01/2025 21:49

I watch loads of stuff on YouTube more like documentaries and informative stuff but if dp wasn't interested I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist I'd just watch it on my phone in a different room!

Kicking the bin over is absolutely pathetic
