I saw a couple of practitioners about this as I really, really wanted tear trough filler. A few were happy to inject me there and then and a few said absolutely not you don’t have the anatomy for it.

After doing some research I was surprised to see that a lot of people ended up with filler like yours, just sat puffy under the eyes. You have to have a certain type of hollow under the eyes for the filler to work.

I would get it dissolved and get polynucleotides instead. I have them and the results are amazing. I hardly care about my under eyes at all now.

I’ve already had this and the results were mediocre. And yes I paid for the top quality ones too.

Just read your updates. I'd be so sad if you were my daughter and felt you needed to alter your face in your early 20s. I hope you have been pursuing other ways of feeling good in your own skin. You're so young to feel like you need to be "more". You're enough.

I’m really ok. Eczema did a number on me sadly which is why I have a blepharoplasty so young. Please don’t bring how my mother should feel into this.

I'm not at the stage where I need it yet but I thought it took a while for the swelling to subside and the octopus eye look to go away?

I had a tiny little bit of filler placed by a plastic surgeon although not in my undereye. It was a tiny bit raised - not a noticeable ridge - for a couple of days as I was meant to massage it lightly. It was looked completely normal, but better, within a week. I would be disappointed by the result you got.

I would never even contemplate a dentist or some GP injecting filler. The only people who work on my face are either a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist. One of the dermatologists once wryly told me that he got to fix the mistakes of a chain of clinics doing "appearance" medicine. It takes about 4 extra years of training to become a dermatologist on top of basic medical training. I would want that four extra years of training rather than somebody who can do crowns and did a few weeks extra training. Most dual trained doctors and dentist will I think be maxillofacial surgeons or maybe some other specialist roles and will not be likely be up for injecting filler.

For what it's worth one of my children is a final year medical student. When he went to have a skin growth removed, who do you think he saw? I can tell you that it wasn't a GP or a dentist.

I’m in my early 30s and you think I could be 60? Fantastic ..

Don’t you just LOVE Mumsnet- always the snidey bitchy comments about peoples appearance-
No way do you look remotely “over 50”

That poster is being a knobber.

It’s like when someone posts a pic and asks “ how old do I look?”
and people say “
“90” when it’s obvious they are 30’s.

I really wouldn’t call that excessive. All done within a 9 year period.

Younger women than me especially on social media have a hell of a lot more work.

Good grief! Of course it's excessive. It's not normal. I'm 35 and none of my friends have had any kind of treatment like this, nor do they need to.

I contacted them to say I wasn’t happy and they said to wait for my review appointment. But I want to know whether I’m being unreasonable/impatient

I've had tear trough done. It did take a few weeks to settle. But filler especially under the eyes is very tricky & sometimes makes under the eyes look worse. See what they say on the review appointment.

You could get it dissolved but I'm sure that it also dissolves the natural enzymes with it also. Hopefully it'll settle down soon. Would you not have considered Lumi Eyes instead? Or maybe for the future? Doesn't get the exact results as filler but I think it's less tricky & helps under eye problems x

friskybivalves · 14/01/2025 23:40

I'm also so relieved to be old, and worried about expectations on teen DD.

Nine years' worth of invasive treatments starting in early 20s. And says herself she is overweight but looks to have amazing cheekbones so is prob a size 10. Also looks to have some great hair.

SMH.

Gymnopedie · 14/01/2025 23:39

To me that looks like malar oedema.

I've had tear trough fillers. I go to an experienced GP who has done masses of training in injectables. She costs but I would never go anywhere cheaper, it's not worth it.

She explained that you don't use regular filler under the eyes. Normal filler is hydrophilic, that is that when it's injected it absorbs water from the body and swells, making the filler effect greater than that of just the injection. Under eye filler should be hydrophobic, ie it rejects water and the filling is only the injected filler.

The reason is that when a hydrophilic injection is used the swelling due to water absorption is unpredictable. And what happens (sadly quite often) is that the swellling causes blockage of the tear ducts/lymphatic drainage. So bodily fluid builds up because it can't escape, causing the oedema. Using a hydrophobic solution means that only the injected filler is responsible for the filler effect and as long as it's injected by someone who is well trained and competent, and avoids those structures, there will be no fluid build up because it can drain normally.

I notice from your photo that the ridge goes to the outside of your cheek from the corner of your eye - the tear duct, and that's why I suspect that it is oedema rather than misplaced filler.

I hope that's of some help.

This!

Do not let a nurse near your face with filler, it's an absolute disgrace it's not illegal.

I have fillers and Botox done by an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. It is all she does and has been doing for years. She is amazingly skilled and has a real eye for exactly what to do to achieve the desired result. I’m happy to be guided by her and am completely happy with the result she achieves for me.

girljulian · 14/01/2025 23:38

What were you trying to "fill"? You don't seem to have wrinkly under-eye area. Now you just have a random bump, as you say, which makes you look tired.

Pussycat22 · 14/01/2025 23:33

burberrygodess · 14/01/2025 20:51

It doesn’t at all. I’ve seen some amazing work.

Oh the irony!

DreamingOfASilentNight · 14/01/2025 23:30

It does look like a bit of a bump. It may be possible that the filter has caused a tiny malar bag or festoon which is a potential complication of under eye and upper cheek filter. The lymphatic drainage in the area is inhibited and the filler itself, due to it's nature attracts water and puffs up. This can look worse earlier in the morning sometimes. People aren't all suitable for under Eye filler regardless of their hollows and it is a significant complication. Test through filter is also more likely to cause granulomas in the area which are small bumps under the skin. These can only be removed by excision.Try massaging it with a gua sha to assist drainage and pay attention to what makes it nurse if anything. I can't see clearly from your images but you might be more sensible to dissolve the filter and have an alternative stimulating treatment or even laser to tighten up the skin and reduce and darkness or laxity.

Survivingnotthriving24 · 14/01/2025 23:26

Twaddlepip · 14/01/2025 21:47

Oh OP. You need someone who really understands anatomy. This filler needs dissolving. I fear this ‘nurse’ will just add more.

Have a look at Dr Steve Harris on Instagram. That’s the sort of person who should be injecting your face.

This isn’t meant to be a condescending or cruel post. I think well done filler is fantastic. That and Botox are the only things that make a real identifiable difference to aging. I have both.

Keeponkeepingon9 · 14/01/2025 23:24

I honestly wish women would just leave their faces alone unless its trauma repair. Is makeup not enough?

LinnettdeBelleforte · 14/01/2025 23:23

RisingSunn · 14/01/2025 23:18

If really you are in your early 30s - then you probably should get that dissolved. As I also thought you were in your 50s from that picture.

I didn't think OP was fifties, to be fair, but I certainly would have put her at at least my age, and I am 42. Certainly not early thirties.

wizzywig · 14/01/2025 23:20

GretchenWienersHair · 14/01/2025 21:35

A friend of mine who administers filler injections always tells clients she won’t do under eyes as it tends to migrate more than any other area. It looks like what she described to me when I asked what she meant.

Oh don't say that! Mine look great!

Excuse the hair it was wet

That entire bump is just filler. I didn’t have a bump there before.

This is likely superficial filler. You need to be firmly pressing and massaging this. Most filler settles 2-3 weeks after injecting and I recall you saying it's already been 2 weeks. When is your review?

Lentilweaver · 14/01/2025 23:14

She most definitely does not look 50/60.

LinnettdeBelleforte · 14/01/2025 23:13

burberrygodess · 14/01/2025 21:39

Extreme bags …. Bit dramatic

I mean, you asked for opinions. If you are going to get snippy with people answering honestly, why ask? I thought the same as the PP, you look as if you haven't been sleeping well.

Bakedpotatoes · 14/01/2025 23:13

KateDelRick · 14/01/2025 22:48

Yes, I would agree, probably late 60s, they've really messed up.

Some people are so bitchy on here particularly on filler/Botox threads. OP does not look 60s for goodness sake.

fluffyblanky · 14/01/2025 23:12

This woman does not look 50/60!!!!! I feel like that is being said just to be unkind.

littlemissprosseco · 14/01/2025 23:07

Dentist here!
It should settle, give it a little longer.
As to how long it will take to resorb… that will depend on what filler was used. Again, if you decide to have it dissolved, how well that will work will depend on what type of filler has been used.
Good luck
