To send them home? (trigger warning grooming gangs)

The Rape and Grooming scandal is blowing up on twitter/social media and the extent of the scandal is actually mind boggling. Apparently up to 250,000 girls may have been affected 😱

This initially shocked me but when I thought of it, although I’m based in a rural area I know of two girls who have been caught up in it - one of whom in my class at school was raped in a park aged around thirteen and another family friends daughter found naked in a room with a group of adult men at the age of 14 and was blamed for leading them all on. Those living in towns/cities must see so much more of this?!

I’ve also heard today that Pakistan is willing to take back criminals convicted in the Uk of these crimes (UK-Pakistan Prisoner treaty agreement) and has been for a number of years but we’re not sending them back. I know not all perpetrators are Pakistani and not all Pakistani men are capable of such evil (and I work with plenty of decent Pakistani men), but of those who are convicted and born there why on earth are they still here in the UK if we can remove them as a danger from our society and their home country is willing to take them?

In have two daughters and I’m honestly terrified for their future given this significant threat to young girls in this country. It seems like no one cares enough to rock the boat.

YABU - No they should remain here and we should deal with it
YANBU - They should be sent back

As always with these kind of posts, a bunch of rational people attempt to explain that the majority of perpetrators are British born and therefore have nowhere to be ‘sent back’ to, while others continue to argue ‘send them back’ regardless. Those pesky annoying facts eh? getting in the way of your narrative. How inconvenient they are.

WaryPeer · 11/01/2025 15:05

The way this has all been handled is almost as scary as the crimes themselves.

Im half Indian. And YEARS before the grooming scandal broke my dad took me to the Sikh temple where talks on Muslim grooming gangs were being held. Literally YEARS before it it all came out. The police were told but did nothing. We believe Sikh girls were the first targeted.

I remember being told they would pick out girls with low esteem, buy them gifts, get them drunk/blackmail them with compromising photos, isolate them etc.

In a multi cultural society there has to be a level of transparency and a willingness to call a spade a spade.

Do you have a link to where Blair and Brown said that victims of CSA should be ignored?

That’s fine, I have nothing in my eyes to be worried about regarding the HQ. Look at the poll - it’s overwhelmingly in my favour?

Issues like this need debate, not silencing.

This isn't a debate though. Any asking for sources is ignored and you don't come back to any of the points multiple people have put to you.

You just keep saying we need to talk about this but don't actually want to talk.

What are you debating? The British justice system is dealing with British citizens yet you think they should be sent away?

There is no debate.

Brefugee · 11/01/2025 15:02

we already have regulations about repatriating non-british prisoners on their release. So all we have to do is jail all the perpetrators and then either release them back into their community as usual (British ones) and follow the regulations we created for non-British ones.

No need to start a witch hunt or anything.

Gilead · 11/01/2025 15:02

The majority of men making up these gangs are white British. Only 4% are Pakistani.
We need to be looking at prevention across the board, along with identifying and supporting vulnerable children.

Isn't there quite broad consensus on this thread?

The majority of child rapists are uk born.

Criminals with non UK passports should be sent back to their country of origin.

UK citizens that commit crime abroad should be sent back to he UK.

Most people on this thread seem to agree.

If they are British then prison, if they are not British then back to wherever they came from. I don't see what's difficult about that.

Literally spot on

Issues like this need informed debate

Not bullshit claims like:

"Tony Blair/Gordon Brown as far back as the early 2000’s informed the police forces across the country that the children found with these men were to be ignored, so that is why we don’t have accurate statistics on this."

Snorlaxo · 11/01/2025 15:00

I assume that many hold passports from the UK and Pakistan.

How many dual nationals in Pakistani jails ? If we send back say 50 men and 100 are sent to UK jails then is it worth it ? If Uk jails are more lax then Pakistani ones, then the demand to be sent to a UK jail could be huge. You could end up with the situation where people are immediately released because of the cost of jailing people and different crimes being perceived differently. The Dutch volleyball player who was in prison was raping a 13 year old in the UK was sent “home” and didn’t serve the remainder of his sentence and was allowed to go to the Olympics.

What's your source for that claim about Blair and Brown?

Very good point, will be interesting to see OPs sources for this claim.

Tattletwat · 11/01/2025 14:59

Yes we ought to send people who commit a crime back.

Problem is, a lot of the groomers gangs are born here so you can't deport.

I live in a town where these morons are dumb enough to park their cars at side of a park to hang out, without being self aware.

In my town the problem isn't Muslims it's the Pakistani community.

It's a very complex issue and unless you've lived in and around areas with changing demographics it's easy to misunderstand and call everything racism.

I had several blokes try it on when I was growing up. They were immigrants and I managed to get away but I was also surrounded by a gang of British Asian lads in the woods on my way home from school who made their intentions very clear. That was until one of them realised I had a 6ft+ brother. They quickly scrambled but I never walked home that way again and that's 40 years ago.

Scirocco · 11/01/2025 14:54

Mrsdyna · 11/01/2025 14:49

Yes, send them all back ASAP!

Bit difficult to deport British people from Britain.

They don’t “face the music” though do they?

see previous posts about the Dutch Olympian who was sent home to serve the rest of his sentence and immediately released.

Or Sharon Beshevinsky’s killer who “went home” prior to arrest and lived the next 14 years free.

those are just two I can think of. I am sure there are more.

And that's a fair point.

Scirocco · 11/01/2025 14:52

There are already processes for deporting foreign nationals convicted of serious offences. The majority of men abusing and sexually assaulting women and girls in the UK are British, so it's not relevant to their pathway through the legal system.

EmmaMaria · 11/01/2025 14:51

@multicolouredbunting And every UK national is to come back and serve their time here. Including Begum.
What do you suggest would be the appropriate sentence for Shamima Begum, given that she has never been convicted of a crime in any court of law? I am all in favour though of her coming back to the UK and let's see if she is then accused on anything. It would make a compelling trial - a groomed minor trafficked to Syria, allegedly by an intelligence agent working for one of our allies. I am sure that avoiding that particular trial played no part in the decision to remove her right to return.

feelingalittlehorse · 11/01/2025 14:51

I think we need to be a little careful that the race argument isn’t overshadowing the real issue here- which is that these are criminals, whose victims are children. It doesn’t really matter where their country of origin is/ what colour their skin is/ what religion they follow. They are sick individuals who are a threat to the children in the society they are residing in.

If they are not British Citizens, then absolutely; they should be returned to the country that they are citizens of, in order for them to be dealt with by their own criminal justice system. But of course, of the same vein, I would expect that British Citizens committing similar crimes are returned to our shores, and it surprises me that this isn’t done more regularly. Citizenship is there for a reason- and it means nations should be taking responsibility for their citizens, no matter in what manner that is.

There was a news story a few years ago about a British citizen who had moved to Thailand and was found guilty of multiple, heinous crimes against very young Thai girls. He has been jailed in Thailand, but i did wonder why he wasn’t sent back here at the time of reading it (apologies if that situation has now changed but it was an example that came to mind).
