Slightly dramatic title but honestly, my colleague is grating on me.

She is a vegetarian and every January she takes part in Veganuary.

We receive several photos and updates on what she is making for dinner/lunch etc each day and she talks quite a lot about it. I get it, when people are on diets they act the same I guess.

What is really boiling my piss, is that everything I bring to lunch she comments on.

Today is a cheese salad

"OMG I really miss cheese, I so wish I could eat cheese, this is so triggering" (triggering part is said light heartedly.

Yesterday I had a yoghurt and the conversation goes the same way.

Just eat the fucking cheese, why are you depriving yourself so much, for what? Veganuary? Is it worth it?

I just don't get why people do these things and then bitch about it every day. If you want it, have it. Life is too short!

Suffering to be more saintly about food than you are and telling you about it is an anti-social trait.

ladyofshertonabbas · 10/01/2025 14:01

I think veganuary should be held in a different month. We should all band together as a nation to munch through the massive reduced price cheese mountain which is in the shops at this time of year. Prevent food waste and all that,

REP22 · 10/01/2025 13:59

That would wind me up too. That, and people who insist that their dog is a committed vegetarian/vegan... I know two of these folk. Yeah right - and the only mice your cat ever eats are ones it's lifted from the sweetie shop. 🙄😉

AnnieBenn · 10/01/2025 13:59

Take in cheesecake, cream cakes, all-butter mince pies, cheese straws, baklava, chocolate, fudge etc

BotterMon · 10/01/2025 13:59

Just tell her to fuck right off. Why on earth are you seeing her ridiculous photos of what she's eating/not eating. She sounds a complete PITA.

Viviennemary · 10/01/2025 13:59

Say sorry I am not taking part in this and walk away.

Toomanyemails · 10/01/2025 13:57

"You can eat cheese/yoghurt, you've chosen not to!"

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 10/01/2025 13:57

Bring in a 5 course cheese platter with grapes, vino, chutneys, crackers... cheesecake for pudding... cheese twists for snacks... trigger the lactose out of her....
OOOO hot chocolate in this weather! Lovely.

Sevenwondersofthewoo · 10/01/2025 13:56

Vegan is acceptable is it hell it’s bloody vile snd I’ve tried loads of them.

NonPlayerCharacter · 10/01/2025 13:55

Timetochillnow · 10/01/2025 12:45

Vegan ‘cheese’ is very acceptable 🤣 she’s being very dramatic!

It's not, it's horrible stuff.

Newgreensofa · 10/01/2025 13:45

Bingo! Best reply yet. So next time just tell her she's beginning to grate on you. And other dairy-related puns. Butter her up and milk it for all it's worth. Don't forget to call her "honey" (even better "hun" since she uses the word "triggering").

I'm not sure she'd give Edam Wink

I love that you used 'grating on me'!

TheThreeCheesesOfTheApocalypse44 · 10/01/2025 13:54

Tbh she's probably just making conversation.....she won't really care that much it sounds like the sort of inane chat that goes on around my workplace. Daily topics will be played on repeat which are.

What time are you in till ?

What have got ? << squints towards food smells >>

Who else is in ?

I can't wait to finish already.

Other topics will be crap we're watching on TV, the trauma of giving up alcohol / cigarettes. And nobody in my workplace has done veganuary that I'm aware of but I can guarantee if they did it would be thrown into the bucket of workplace chat.

She won't really be that bothered. But it's safe, workplace chat to have a laugh about. And you're massively over thinking it and weird to be so bothered about it.

You forgot the head tilt.

I did!!! People this irritating need the full works.

be concerned. Very worried about her. Be clear she’s giving off “fucking mental” vibes. But do it in a more polite and professional manner than calling her fucking mental.

BeAzureAnt · 10/01/2025 13:52

Tell her there are people starving around the world, and isn't she lucky she has such choices.

Therealjudgejudy · 10/01/2025 13:49

Tell her that vegan cheese exists.

Also, bring in an awesome cheese board with crackers for your next lunchbreak 😉

SparklyNewMe · 10/01/2025 13:47

Bring her irresistible treat like and offer her, just for her, with “are you sure you don’t want one? Just one won’t hurt”. Sabotage her diet and be done with it - if she can’t do it, she might as will give up.

ThinWomansBrain · 10/01/2025 13:47

reply to the WhatsApp with - "can we have two WhatsApp groups, one for emergency work communication and an optional one for social stuff shit that no one is interested in

I'd pointedly pick up my lunch and without a word, go and eat it elsewhere

Crapdoor · 10/01/2025 13:39

CautiousLurker01 · 10/01/2025 13:11

On the basis that there are billions of dairy free alternatives for yoghurt, icecream and cheese available these days (we’re a lactose free household) I’d be very tempted to tell her to STFU.

Or maybe just bring her a packet of dairy free cheese/4pack of soy yogurts on Monday and tell her that you really don’t want to hear about it any more…

They are all quite disgusting. My dd is lactose intolerant and we have tried so many alternatives but nothing comes close to products made from cow's milk. Especially cheese seems to be very hard to simulate. I feel bad for my dd because she used to love dairy free products and she misses them but for an adult it's not a massive deal i guess.

I guess, op's colleague might just be making conversation. Or maybe is genuinely finding it hard. Or maybe she is looking for validation. Who knows? Yes, maybe it's annoying and boring but everyone who tends to go on and on about what they are passionate about is annoying. I don't think there is a need to be nasty about it.

PaterPower · 10/01/2025 13:37

“How do you know if someone’s Vegan… don’t worry, they’ll tell you” springs to mind

Pigeon31 · 10/01/2025 13:36

I think you should just rub it in. Every time she says that, you agree and say "oh I could never go vegan, I would miss cheese too much. And this one is a great cheese, I love it. I've been looking forwards to it all day. ((Dramatic Pause)) ... CHEESE, GROMMIT!"

denhaag · 10/01/2025 13:36

At least she's not raising money while she's doing it. Or is she?

Bore off Doris.
